I was at this performance. Solea was simple amazing. Jeremy Jordan was terrific. The audience loved it; the applause lasted a long time. It was a magical evening.
The problem is that Jeremy Jordan looks Puerto Rican, and Tony is suppose to be Anglo. Jordan doesn't look white; he looks Hispanic. That was distracting for me. Jordan is also short relative to Solea. When the guy is shorter than the girl, it's also distracting and makes for a less attractive lead couple. Jordan didn't fit the role of Tony physically.
In spite of Jeremy Jordan's physical shortcoming (hee hee), he was fantastic as was Solea. I've seen "West Side Story" performed by opera singers in the past, and this was better. Solea's & Jeremy's acting & singing was superb and moving, whereas opera singers usually can't act, not like this. This performance received fantastic reviews as well, and deservedly so.
Believe it or not, this was Solea Pfeiffer's professional debut as an actress. She's only 21 years-old here, while Jeremy is 30 years-old and a veteran of the stage. No wonder the acting was so great, because Solea is an excellent actress as well as singer. She was discovered by the LA Philharmonic when she was still a student at the University of Michigan (BFA musical theatre). She also was educated & trained as an actress at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, where she also landed lead roles as a student.
Lausanne28 Arthur Laurents, who wrote WSS and directed the Broadway revival, wept at Jeremy’s audition and cast him on the spot. So although Jeremy is not latino at all and only 5’9’ didn’t distract from his amazing talent
WHAT VOICES!!! WHAT CHEMISTRY!!! I loved this!!! They perfectly portrayed Tony and Maria, just two crazy kids in love who wouldn't let anything keep them apart! I would LOVE to see Jeremy Jordon as Tony!!!
Aw man - I was watching Solea's new Evita City Center videos that just posted, so naturally I needed to re-watch this. I was there that night. This scene was everything. 17,000+ people at the Hollywood Bowl, and you could hear a pin drop. Followed by legit sobbing from all around. Perfect.
This performance was my first experience at the Hollywood Bowl.. I wasn't expecting to feel so completely drawn into the show, being the size of the amphitheater. Even in the bench seats you could feel the electric energy pouring out of the actors. Solea, Karen, and Jeremy played their roles with truth and intensity. Gustavo and the ensemble were absolutly brilliant. UGH! I reallyyy liked to be in America this day ;)
I really reallyyy love these two together. Their chemistry on stage just makes me want to meltttt. I am so sad this was only one performance. (These two are the Maria and Tony that should’ve been in the revival but...)
I'm watching this after being in West Side a few weeks ago, and there's this part of me that still feels like I have to go onstage for "America" soon while listening 😂
Nooooo he's very much in a head dominant mix most of the time, only parts he really sounds chesty are notes like 'but here you ARE' and 'tonight toNIGHT'
What amazing performances from the LA Phil and Dudamel, but especially the singers. Solea Pfeiffer was just spectacular and with Jeremy Jordan, the perfect pair for this wonderful performance.
The only thing about this awesome performance from two very talented people was that people were giggling. ??? This is West Side Story! . You don't giggle when Tony and Maria are about to sing "Tonight" They both did an awesome performance.
Jeremy is 5'9 1/2(as he said on his twitter) and 5'9 1/2 is actually just average height for a Jewish male. So he's not short, Hollywood standards for men are just 6 ft and also she's all or wearing heels.
This video was shot before earth 1 pre flashpoint and never happened post flashpoint, want proof? See the space in the video dilating over time ... Trust me I'm a dolphin
H J no, it didn't bother me cause I felt like the giggles were contained to moments that had a bit of lovesick comedic effect. Like Maria calling Tony back when they are trying to part. I think the audience was a little starstruck by Jeremy too. Like at the end, that girl has like she let's out the breath she's been holding.
I feel like her voice, while beautiful, is a little too strong here. They need to blend. Granted, I'm not all that familiar with the song or the story... which makes catching words twice as hard... but it's really nice to hear jeremy's more classic voice.
No, Solea's voice isn't "too strong." She's a soprano, and when you sing in a higher octave, your voice carries more than a person singing in a lower octave. If her voice dominates, which I don't think it does, Jeremy needs to sing stronger from his diaphragm.
They seem so awkward. In Romeo and Juliet they can't reach each other - she's on a BALCONY, that's why it's called the BALCONY scene. In WSS Maria is supposed to be on a modern-day, urban BALCONY - the fire escape. And he still can't reach her. The longing for each other is way more powerful and sexy than them glued together, lips smacking. And who thought it was a good idea for them to stand beside each other and sing straight out to the audience and not to each other? (I know they eventually turn to each other, but they should never just be singing out to the audience.) Bad direction.
This is wonderful. The laughing and giggling was horrible. I didn't get why people couldn't get into the roles that were being performed so wonderfully. Even though we know Jeremy is gay, let it go and watch the talent. It was amazing

I say the same thing too.
Jeremy Jordan should be the biggest star in the world. I would love to see him in a Miss saigon or Sunset Boulevard film
C Rees Oh my god, yes! Miss Saigon NEEDS him to sing Why, God, Why?...there’s a rendition on UA-cam and it is....exquisite..🙏🏽
Sunset Boulevard ❤️
RENT. Literally anything. Please.
I mean he did audition for Miss Saigon
@@theblackcat2792 Maybe the film ?
Damn I am jealous of her. In every aspect. Her being kissed by Jeremy Jordan, her talent, her beauty, her accent…
Why does Jeremy Jordan have to be so dang talented I’m swooning
JACK KELLY AND ELIZA HAMILTON AHHHHHH I CANT
I couldn't stop smiling during this entire performance! Solea is fantastic, and Jeremy is incredible as always. What a treat to see this!
Solea Pfeiffer is phenomenal! I hope to hear a lot from her in the future (and I hope she protects her voice).
He's so excited omg

Can we just talk about how flawless this is? I literally was seeking out mistakes and couldn’t find jack squat
Omg the little rasp in his voice when he sings right around 2:48 🥺
This is so, so, so, so, so, so, incredibly wonderful.

I would have really loved to see Jeremy Jordan in The Greatest Showman
Yep still love Jeremy Jordan...just checking
LOL, I do the same thing.
OMG just found this swooon Jeremy Jordon is amazing. So jealous of anyone who gets to play Maria so very well opposite him
FLAWLESS and pitch perfect by both. Best performance on UA-cam by far. Their vocals match beautifully. Bravissimo
I'm watching this after being in West Side a few weeks ago, and there's this part of me that still feels like I have to go onstage for "America" soon while listening 😂
I just found this and all I can say is, holy sh*t. Thank you.
Thank you for capturing a magical version of this beautiful duet from west side story! They're both magnificent!
Perfect. What a pair.
Its amazing he is singing with all chest voice
Kenneth Ho How do you define "chest voice"?
Kenneth Ho he's definitely mixing in places what
Nooooo he's very much in a head dominant mix most of the time, only parts he really sounds chesty are notes like 'but here you ARE' and 'tonight toNIGHT'
He’s not! The ping you here is absolutely head voice!
Just because it's not falsetto, doesn't mean it's entirely the chest lololol
Every single time i hear jeremy sing
*i cri*
Hey!! I went to high school with her!!
.......omg, what am I doing with my life.......
Next televised "live" broadcast Jeremy Jordan as Tony!
There's no other option. Agreed. 10/10. 100% (Also I can't believe they haven't asked him to do one yet???????)
When is this broadcast? Who will play Maria?

I’m excited to see her as Evita!

thank you so much for filming and posting! this was perfect!!
So Professional
i cant stop watching!!!
They are both amazing!
LOVE YOU SO MUCH 💗
Thanks for posting such an awesome video; LOVE IT!
Was their costume budget 7 dollars
it was at the Hollywood Bowl, it was intentionally minimal costumes, set and choreography. which I admit is a little odd for West Side Story
He needs to go back to broadway
The screen really said 💨🌊
2:30 how does she sing with her neck like this?
He looked genuinely disappointed when she walked away
AND NOW SHE'S ELIZA IN THE NT OF HAMILTON!!!!
I just found this video and am now upset its not them in the new remake 😔
Omg who is she Solea is so gorgeous love these two together
They should star in Steven Spielberg’s new film adaptation 😍
I agree... Maybe just Jeremy Jordan.
@@SuperKatieg93 i don’t know about him, solea should’ve definitely been Maria
YES!!! Just thinking exactly that!

he is really not that short. like 5'11'' that's not that bad. she is tall and they are basically the same height! Either way love both of them!
You are close Jeremy Jordan is 5'10.
he's actually 5'9 1/2...average height for a Jewish male
Y'all tripping, he is tall, just Solea is taller.

James Proudman it's rather difficult not to feel mirth at solea and jeremy's childlike ebullience and chemistry. it's so cute!!
I don't think Jeremy is that short as he's like 5'9. Pretty sure she's just tall. Or is 5'9 short? I'm about 5'10 so now I'm curious 😂
Jeremy Jordan is 5'10 he is not that short and like for me I'm 4'11 and a half.

In *West Side Story,* Tony climbs up the fire escape to be with her. They kiss and embrace several times, too.
@@musicaltheatergeek79 You are right, my bad!
