I've been through your videos to verify your greatness as a Cajon teacher, and as a cajon player as well. No regrets, I have concluded that you deserve to be commended. You are so great, brother! Thank you for your efforts and your videos. Your videos are of great help to everyone in this industry. Kudos and more power!
Love your method of teaching Ross. Being a drum kit player myself I totally understand your more rudimental approach to the Cajon. What I wonder though is why you choose to use finger doubles on the cajon in stead of the wrist/push pull like doubles I see on other Cajon videos on youtube. What are the benefits and downsides of fingers vs wrist?
Hello and thanks for posting this awesome video ibm just looking forward to have my first cajon this weekend. Right now i am practicing your patterns on the kitchen table. Very motivating and thank you again
I assume that strengthening the ring finger would also transfer well to the kit. So, practicing this wouldn't just be interesting to be able to perform mad triplet licks on the cajon. Thanks for your speedy reply Ross. I'll get to practicing your technique. Please keep posting videos.
What I've noticed is that your roll is actually quite powerfull. This really surprised me. Also it appears as if the maximum possible speed would be higher using this method. As far as being able to transfer techniques from the cajon to the kit I think that having a powerful middle finger could be just as usefull as a strong wrist. Have you ever thought about also using the ring finger for your roll? You'd get some mad options that way.
You propably saw a video by David Kuckhermann? Split Hand technique is something different. You're right that it sounds somewhat alike, but the nuance is different and because of the differrent movements it can be applied in other situations. Hard to describe, really. But you'll get to understand all that with more practice :) But, In my opinion, you shouldn't learn split hand just yet. It's actually quite difficult and there are more important things to learn in the beginning :)
