I had no idea boil-and-pop could be used on vintage Star Wars or ANY peg-necked figures. I have a whole box of figures that are just there as fodder (broken torsos, chewed off limbs etc). Perhaps some of them CAN be salvaged.
I just did a boil and pop/head swap of 2 vintage Lando Calrissian figures. Bespin Lando and Skiff Guard Lando. I especially wanted to see how the skiff guard head looked on the bespin body, and it turned out great.
Do you know, thanks to you bud, i've managed to stiffen the limbs on my figures using this exact method. I tested it on an old beaten up lando and trimmed the joint and it actually worked much better! I've since done a few others and it has stiffened all of them. I'm not brave enough to try it on a head though. Try it on the arms first of any figure that's expendable, and preferably one that doesn't have a split already where the joint doesn't meet the arm. I'm using it instead of the dental floss or the tape repair. Good luck if you try it!
The black you used on this figure seems to suit a bit better than the more matt paint (33)? that I've seen you use on other Death Squad figures. Nice work!
The peg is probably still cool due to it being sealed inside the figure. If you can pull the head out slightly to allow hot water inside the figure it will soften the stopper up a little better. Bending the neck to get it out can also crack the body parts.
Honestly, I didn't know you could do this with action figures that have the peg-style heads. I knew of the boiling method primarily from customizing, as I remember Wizard Magazine had an article about doing a custom Captain America action figure, and they used boiled water to soften the plastic for the base figure to carve off any unwanted pieces (namely the base figure's hairdo). But this is the first time I've seen it being used with peg-style heads. :D
I'll try some more times with this, but even with the broken peg the figure ended up looking great. And now the plastic has cooled off, the head is firmly held in place again.
I know. I hated seeing the black series one always warming the pegs, but I kinda regret not buying one on clearance in the end. Not a bad looking figure.
They sure are. It seems hit and miss. The first head came out very easily, even though the plastic looked like it was about to break. The second, there was no obvious marks or breaks on the pin, and it just snapped.
Use the same technique, boil the head until the plastic is soft and using a screwdriver, push it back into the hole. I'll do a video for this shortly. Cheers
I see you show the return of the jedi vintage figures are on a peg, do you know if the vintage 1984-1985 power of the force heads are on a pegs as well?
well on my U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D is very faded and the clear decals tend to peel and get a black mark around them. would you consider a restoration for me?
Dave, I did a head transplant, but chipped away too much of the stem and now the figure has a very wobbly head. I would like to try the peg system using some Lego parts. My question is twofold; do you have any recommendations on what kind of drill is best to use on Star Wars figures, and do you have any part names / numbers for the best Lego pieces to use for such a job? Any advice you would be willing to share would be most appreciated. Thank you!
Just wondering if you have ever thought of using this body with a different head to make a custom Tarkin, I always thought it was a shame he didn't get a figure. I don't know what head you would use you would have a better idea than me I think
Toy Polloi, as I've noted before, I love your videos. What are your thoughts (or experiences) with just taking a beat up figure apart to get the head instead of trying the boil and pop method? As the Death Squad Commander on this video demonstrates, sometimes the peg at the base of a figure's head will break with the boil and pop method, so if I consider the figure to be a source for spare parts, I think I would rather break the figure open at the torso rather than risk breaking the peg with the boil and pop method. Thanks for all your videos-you've inspired me to keep an eye out for older figures to try to do some swapping and customizing of my own! J$H Friday 03.09.2018 5:22 PM
...Yes, I put a POTF2 Lando head on a SOTE Luke Coruscant Guard body (Luke and Lando both disguised themselves in the guard uniforms in that story, but Hasbro only made the Luke.)
I have a vintage farm boy orange head that I want to pop on a regular vintage Luke body. The head has a hole in it for a body post, but my other regular Luke is the other way around, it has the post on the head. How do I get a Luke with the post on the body to pop the orange head on ?
+Melody Graves What do you mean by regular vintage luke? Bespin? You will either need to modify the head or the body. Check out my video on restoring a vintage Biker Scout.
OK then, thanks I will check out your video. And I'm only talking about vintage farm boy Luke's. Some have the stem or post on the body and some extending from the head. So its confusing. Ultimately, I wanted to just buy a Luke that had the connecting post extending from the body to fit in the hols in Luke's head. Apparently no one, and I mean no one knows how to do that.
Can you post some pictures of them on my facebook page. I have never seen a farm boy Luke with a neck peg. They all come with the post on the head as far as I know.
I know this is 4 years old but If it's a playmates Ninja Turtle figure then yes this method works fine just did it to remove the remnant pegs from 3 arms and put one hand back on. You will need a small screw driver to pry the remnant of the peg out though but they come out intact so can be used for the repair if you still have the hand.
I was sure Greedo's head was going on the death squad commander's body.

Toy Galaxy More than likely they can. I use this all the time to make a good figure out of the remains of some fodder. We can rebuild them!
I just did a boil and pop/head swap of 2 vintage Lando Calrissian figures. Bespin Lando and Skiff Guard Lando. I especially wanted to see how the skiff guard head looked on the bespin body, and it turned out great.
When you popped Nadine's head off, I was shocked!
+Charles Buckley Toy fixing can be brutal sometimes!

How did trimming the joint make it stiffer?
That’s looks like a great method for removing the head from old StarWars figures mate

Finished figure looks great! Really enjoyable video.
Cheers.
Good tips. Thanks. I'm going to do my first headswaps with some beaters.

Poor Greedo. He never gets any respect.

Some good ideas here, I have done this a few times for customs and the older figures are real pain to do.

I love the Sabi Wabi way of life or so I tell people who look at my retaining wall.
Wow that's really cool very good ideas
Oh cool! I didnt know about the peg difference
wouldnt the paint get loose and be gone after boiling the figure?
Great tip mate, how many figures are in your imperial army now?
How do you get the head back on?
Use the same technique, boil the head until the plastic is soft and using a screwdriver, push it back into the hole. I'll do a video for this shortly. Cheers
@@toypolloi please do as i am trying to get the head back on
Also have Star Trek on it
Is there any paint that will match c3-po s gold color??
How do you get the torsos apart without destroying them?
I see you show the return of the jedi vintage figures are on a peg, do you know if the vintage 1984-1985 power of the force heads are on a pegs as well?
From Jedi onward all figures heads are on pegs.
will you be doing ant Playmates Star Trek Restorations?
Not a toy line I collect. But I am happy to look into it. What are the common issues with the toys? What needs restoring on them?
well on my U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D is very faded and the clear decals tend to peel and get a black mark around them. would you consider a restoration for me?
Quick question have you restored a vintage c3po? Thanks in advance 😊
Not yet. It's on my list as I get asked about it alot.
Ok thanks 😆
like your videos 👍 👍 👍 very useful
What does polloi mean? Great channel mate.
Sometime I would love to see your imperial army.
Here ya go. ua-cam.com/video/losq9zcXmvc/v-deo.html

Very helpful :)
I wonder would this work with me go Star Wars figures ??
How do you put the heads back on like the greedo? Thank you
Check out part 2.

Jedi figures are pretty easy to split apart. Others are harder and you end up causing more damage to the toy.
Can you do this with the newer POTF figures?
bbcasting I think it should work. Do a test on a figure you don't mind breaking first.
bbcasting yes you can

+Toy Polloi Yes sometime today I will post. will be later though. thanks. it really is a factory hole in the head.
Toy polloi how do I fix green legs and arms on a Kenner chewbacca figure? 3:75 inch
+JosephProductions No way to do it as far as I know.
Toy Polloi Oh ok that's okay. That's for replying.
When i did this with Action Force figures i always ended up just splitting the wole figure then put it back together.
How does this work for switching out an arm? Thinking on the original Luke Skywalker?
Works the same. Check out my Han solo head swap video, you'll see me do it in that video.
Worked perfectly! Finally have a complete and great condition Luke Skywalker for the first time!! Thank you sir!!!!
i broke a hand of a figure( is not from star wars) and the peg got stuck the arm i want to get it off is this method useful?
It depends on the plastic used in the figure. What figure is it?
I know this is 4 years old but If it's a playmates Ninja Turtle figure then yes this method works fine just did it to remove the remnant pegs from 3 arms and put one hand back on. 4:30 OMFG!
Oh the humanity! I've not seen a figures head ripped off before. Please stop!
Why on earth I tought that a boiled Greedo will turn red ? XD !
🙂
How could you fry poor greedo?
bobjordan69 He shot first, apparently!
I want to change luke farm boys blonde head with my luke bespin head.
Try this:

Awesome thank you 👍🏻👍🏻
Does this work for the power of the force figures?
It works on more modern figures as well. Just do a couple of tests and see how you get on.
@@toypolloi actually I did it this morning with my power of the force Luke and it worked great, thank you
