On a 12 hour drive back from NC yesterday in my 2005 Honda Odyssey (best car I ever owned), it started blowing hot air on left and cool/cold air on the right. I'll trouble shoot later to start narrowing down the fix. A GREAT VIDEO at explaining the system operation !!!

Thank you, sir! You saved my remaining hairline 🤣You were absolutely correct, it was low on freon. My brother lend me his a/c gauge and purchased a small bottle of freon. Charged the a/c system in small quantities while monitoring the vents with a temperature gauge. I got it down to 42 degrees vs 75 degrees. The wife was starting to worry about her Ody not keeping her cool while driving in the desert heat that reaches 122 degrees 🥵Thanks for the video! 👍 Happy wife = Happy life 🤙
Yo big dog, I started having this problem with my 2020 civic ex. No duo climate control. I will check my Freon tomorrow and I hope that is the problem. By the way, super great video. Keep it up 🎉
Nice video…..I was having this exact problem on my 2008 Honda CRV. In fact, the left side was about 23° warmer. I checked the Freon and it was right at 40 psi, but right now the ambient temperature is 110 in Vegas. I took the PSI up to 50 and now both sides blow nice and cold! I should’ve done this about two or three years ago when i noticed the driver side was warmer! Thanks again
I'm in AZ. I was wondering since it's been so hot if that was a possible factor of my A/C acting up since my car is only 2yrs old. I have a 2017 Honda civic and its pretty upsetting that its happening so soon. Nevertheless, your video was some well needed clarification!
Do you ever see this problem because it's so darn hot the right side is boiling off all the refrigerant? i.e. it's 110F out and you see 60F coming out of the right and 90F out of the left and the heat load is too much for the A/C to cool off the car enough for the two to equalze? Meaning that neither of the problems you described is the issue. In my experience driving through hotter climates it seems like no small car has an AC strong enough to really cool things down in a reasonable amount of time.
That was an excellent video which explains the issue. I think I need to recharge my 2006 Honda Accord, which has never had any refrigerant added to the system! Thank you and best wishes.

My 2014 jeep JKU is doing this exact thing. 44/57 on my passenger vents and 87 on my driver vents. Blend door and position selectors are working like normal.
Appreciate it! My AC router has actually been draining my battery and what finally tipped us off to it was a combination of a lovely Polish man posting a video about it, and my AC pulling this exact stunt and blowing me in the face with heat while my passenger gets all the cold. Now I just have to figure out which one it is…
@@Mike321795 check your door actuators!!! This Honda CRV model will turn into a 2 ton door stop/paper weight if your door and or window actuators blow and won’t put power through to any of the above! Also check your AC seals!! I have not done this but my Honda turned into a paper weight and we had to smash in the left window, which also took 3-4 tries with actual tools!!
On our 2006 Accord with dual (left/right) blend door motors, the left one is definitely not good. If we ONLY use the standard cold/hot control (that operates both L & R) it works OK. But if anyone operates the L & R independently, the left motor loses its mind completely, sending nothing but hot air. The temp “fix” is to move the common L/R hot-cold buttons all the way HOT, back to all the way COLD, do that a few times and the left motor eventually syncs back. It’s a project for another day.
2004 Honda Accord EX-L. Exact same problem today. Took it in and explained what was happening, 80 degrees on the left vent, cool air on the right. They gave it back to me with a bill for $162 for oil, filter, rotate and air recharge. Still blows warm to hot air. I knew I was right when I told them the blend door was the problem and they wanted me to drive it for a week or about 150 miles so they could check for leaked dye. I told them a small leak has nothing to do with hot on one side cool on the other. ITS A BLEND DOOR PROBLEM and they are going to hear about it when I go back.
Always possible there is more than one issue, I see that a lot. Low refrigerant (most likely caused by a leak) or an air mix motor issue (if equipped with two air mix motors) can both cause poor cooling on the left side. Some models do not have two air mix motors (dual climate control) but most EX-L models do. If it does not have dual climate control it is most likely not an air mix motor/blend door issue due to only having one blend door on that design. A large enough refrigerant leak will cause poor cooling performance (starting with the left side) pretty quickly. Refrigerant restrictions and other electrical problems can also cause cooling performance issues too. Regardless, the shop should have been able to tell you the exact level of refrigerant they removed (i.e. was it low, overcharged or at the proper level?), they should have checked for leaks and advised on that and they should have checked operation of the air mix motor(s) and let you know the status of those also. Leaks, restrictions in the system and intermittent problems can all cause the shop to have difficulty finding the problem immediately but they should be communicating with you on what they have done. Thanks for the input!
Actuator door works and I have fresh refrigerant in my dual setting pilot. Still having the problem of cold air on passenger side and less cold on driver side.
Thanks for the info........my dealer has been telling me for the past 2 years that this is how the 2018 accords were built!!! When I Have the air on 65, there is hot air coming out of driver side vent, dealers solution was to always use the air on low because then it finally starts blowing out cold air
Thanks, @bigdog! This helps me understand and troubleshoot. My 2006 Accord had dual temperature controls and the passenger side sometimes blows the warmer air. The curious part is the if crank that side's temperature to lowest temp, it will send cool air through. Thus, I assume that by cranking it down the passenger side pulls more refrigerant. That would mean that the evap core is also split, I think. So I'll check the refrigerant first.
my 2010 cr-v is blowing the opposite its cold on the driver side and hot on the passenger side. I dont have heat on the driver side. I know the door motor is not working right if it goes to defrost it wont to back to other blower positions, feet, head, or both. till it MAGICALY moves again.
i have this issue right now on my 2010 civic, the passenger side vent (just the one on the right) is cold and the driver and middle vents are warm. I have checked the AC relay (OK), checked the temp ix door (its working), performed a hvac self test and no lights flash, checked r-gas with the fill can kits and its in the blue (filled). Not sure what else it can be. I noticed first thing in the am when it is a bit cool outside, all vents are ok and then within 10 to 15 mins same issue happens. Any help would be awesome!
I have a 2006 Honda Accord EX that has this problem. The door blend actuator on the driver's side was replaced since it was broken. The problem was still there so I recharged my system with freon (19 oz.) and still no success. I now found out that the recirculation actuator on the driver's side is also not moving its arm at all so I ordered a new one. I tried moving the blend door manually but the problem still persists. This car has 3 actuators under the dash and the 3rd one (the mode actuator) appears to be working well. However, I think I've found 2 problems with the system recharge. The first is that both valve cores are bad as they are slowly leaking and second, the ac manifold readings are off from what I think is considered normal. The ambient temp here is about 86 °F. With engine off: Low side --> ~105 psi and High side - - > ~105 psi. With engine on and ac on: Low side --> ~20 psi and High side ---> ~65 psi. I added 19 oz. of freon as that's what the service manual calls for. Should I replace the valve cores and add more freon to try to raise the pressures?
This has been an issue with my 2012 Nissan Sentra… just took it to the shop 2 weeks ago & they added Freon .. it was working great for first week.. now week 3 and it’s doing the same thing.. I know just matter of time until they all blow hot..that what happened last time
Mine has a small leak on a high side coupling and the high side service port. The caps need to be TIGHT on these ports. The o-ring in the cap is the primary seal NOT the shrader valve unlike in a car or bicycle tire.
Correct, technically the cap is considered the primary seal on AC systems but the valve should not leak when cap is removed. The Schrader valve should be replaced if they leak.
I appreciate the video. My issue is that when you are idling on my honda odyssey it blows warm air on the drivers side while the passenger stays cool. Now when you start to drive then the drivers side begins again to blow cool air once more. What can this be?
@@BigDog50001 Thanks for the reply. I did see both fans running while the car was idling if that helps. When i put the a/c low pressure reader on it shows to be in the green which indicates to me that freon is ok.
Thanks for the info. My 2018 accord is blowing warm on the left side. It has enough refrigerant. I'm trying to see what component do I need to replace to fix the AC from blowing warm on the left side back to blowing cold. What do I need to replace?
so what if it was on the right passenger side and switched to the left driver side after I swapped a new cabin filter (2012 Acura TL). i pulled the motors thinking one was bad but theyre not. Also, the cabin filter was full of tree leaves and sticks so i was wondering 1. HTF and 2. could a stick be stuck in there somewhere holding the blend door open on one side ? 3. Why would the heat swap from the right to the left just changing the cabin filter?
Excellent vid, great job explaining how it all works! I'm researching an issue with my 2017 Civic EX, the right vent in the middle blows cold, the rest don't. Thinking it could be low on refrigerant however it's YF so it's tricky and expensive, have you seen a similar issue on these? Thanks again!
Yes, just had mine replaced today and the service advisor told me Im lucky my car still under warranty otherwise I was looking at $1,200 with labor and parts.
I don't know what year you have, but most new Hondas (2-3 years old) now use r1234yf refrigerant (thanks to the Government). Many manufacturers (including Honda) are having issues sealing these new systems. It will take some time until they get it perfect unfortunately.
Liked 👍 questions however, in my wife's 09 4 door accord, it's not warm at all on the left side. The ac pump is turned off. The heat is on. What might you say the problem is then?
If it just happened after work was done, then I would double check work. Some things I would look at for no heat: low coolant level, air in cooling system, proper operation of engine coolant temp (ECT) sensors (ECT 1 and ECT 2), thermostat issues, air mix motor issues (especially if it is a dual climate control system), recirculation control motor issues.
Riddle me this: why would I only get cold air from the vent that's just to the right of the steering wheel in my 2007 Civic? The far left is cool-ish, third vent is cool-ish, far-right is warm.
Very informative video!but in my honda civic touring 2016 im experiencing left side means drivers side vents cold and right side not cold as left vents.
Im experiencing this now with our 06 Odyssey with 232K miles. Drivers side is hot and passenger out. But when I turned the ac lower to 58 degrees both are cold. Dunno why?
I brought truck into the dealership multiple times for the very same thing freezing cold on the right side and on the driver side 95 degrees I am getting frustrated even in the winter seasons it's much too cold I have to close off the vents on the drivers side!
Thanks for the confirmation, its going back to the dealer again for the 4th time. How many condensers can you change in less than 3 years! 🙄 Beware of the 2019 Civics

My AC router has actually been draining my battery and what finally tipped us off to it was a combination of a lovely Polish man posting a video about it, and my AC pulling this exact stunt and blowing me in the face with heat while my passenger gets all the cold. Now I just have to figure out which one it is…
Did you ever find out what was the issue my battery draining too
@@Mike321795 check your door actuators!!!
Thanks Big Dog, this is just what I needed.
Man thanks a lot you save me time and money keep it up is a very helpful video
Glad it helped!
what if there is cold air on the left side and hot air on the right?
from what he says, I'd think if you have dual zone AC, the right air mix door would be the issue
Thanks for the comment!
So I'll check the refrigerant first.
hey! were you able to fix it?
No that's not how it works. Most likely your problem is a bad passenger blend door actuator
@@mehedimostofa627 it wasn't the refrigerant.
@@gfriedman99 I'll check this. Thank you.
@@ManuelPumaradawas it the actuator?
I enjoy the white board of knowledge. It's easy to visualize the system when it's right there in front of you. :)
Appreciate the comment Wyatt!
my 2010 cr-v is blowing the opposite its cold on the driver side and hot on the passenger side.
Hey Neil
have you sorted out the issue
Did you figure it out yet?
Very helpful but next time add where to get coolant if I can add coolant myself or what here?
I saw instructions on how to reprogram the blend actuator door and it worked ! Now 4 weeks later same issue but I forgot to save it. Any links ?
Same question!
Well done! Thanks for providing the big picture explanation.
Thank you for the comment!
thank you very much for explaining us the video.
I fix my compressor in a 2010 Honda Accord it cooling but not cold. It's Gass up also
Cold on right hot on left, After about 30 45 minutes left side is cold? but your explanation makes a lot of sense.
👍
Clear and precise info, thank you!
Could this happen to an Volvo xc90 2007? I have the same simtoms.
Excellent explanation. Thanks!!
Hi thanks for the video.
I have the same problem but on the opposite sides. I hope is the same problem
👍
Very instructive! Thank you
I appreciate the comment, thanks!
I appreciate the video. My issue is that when you are idling on my honda odyssey it blows warm air on the drivers side while the passenger stays cool. Now when you start to drive then the drivers side begins again to blow cool air once more. What can this be?
Without being able to see the vehicle, one or both cooling fans not working properly or low refrigerant are what come to mind initially.
@@BigDog50001 Thanks for the reply. I did see both fans running while the car was idling if that helps. When i put the a/c low pressure reader on it shows to be in the green which indicates to me that freon is ok.
Excellent explanation thank you
Thanks for the clear and precise info, Dave. 👍
Thank you!
Hi their
Their is another solution that causes this problem aswell, and has not been answered through any UA-cam video or the internet forums
Great video. In my E bent throwing some air even AC and fans are in off position. What can be the fix?! Ty
Excellent.... I was wondering why iys happening to my honda
Thanks for the comment!
Very interesting, and totally unique content.
Thank you, I appreciate the comment!
Super helpful explanation! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Good information, thanks, keep up the good work 👍🏼
Thanks!
Yes, Hondas with the new refrigerant have issues with leaking, it is possible Honda may fix it under warranty.
I had that problem and it ended up being the evaporator. Expensive repair if not covered under warranty
Yes, just had mine replaced today and the service advisor told me Im lucky my car still under warranty otherwise I was looking at $1,200 with labor and parts.
@Robert Fiore it was a leak in the condenser so I had to replace it at my expense but the warranty covered the replacement YF refrigerant.
It was around $600 to replace the condenser.
Great video 👍, can you make another video how to add the refrigerant to fix this problem.
Thanks for the comment, I will see what i can do!
thank you...started today. 12000 miles. Used to love Honda. rethinking it now.
Mine read low on freon. I added to it. I also changed the blend door actuator. It's still doing blowing hot air on the driver side. Bummed out.
Riddle me this: why would I only get cold air from the vent that's just to the right of the steering wheel in my 2007 Civic? The far left is cool-ish, third vent is cool-ish, far-right is warm.
Perfectly explained! very nice.
Thanks for the comment!
Very informative video!but in my honda civic touring 2016 im experiencing left side means drivers side vents cold and right side not cold as left vents.
Thanks for the comment! Here is another video on the subject: ua-cam.com/video/Ksnnam-tnQw/v-deo.html
Good videos! Can you please make a video of replacing the front (left and right) wheel speed sensor for 2012 honda accord 4cyl sedan. Thanks.
I will see what I can do, thanks for the comment!
Very informative . Thank you!
Glad it helped, thanks for the comment!
if ac is off, just fan on. and driver’s side is warm and passenger side is cool air, would this be the result of bad blend actuator?
If it is a dual climate control system then yes one of the actuators could be bad. Could also be a coolant system problem too.
Perfect explanation bruh!
Thanks!
Thank you, it works for me.
You have a video of you fixing this problem
No, not on this issue specifically.
Im experiencing this now with our 06 Odyssey with 232K miles. Drivers side is hot and passenger out. But when I turned the ac lower to 58 degrees both are cold. Dunno why?
If I cannot replace myself ,is this expensive replace or fix if I were to
Bring it to a Machanic?
I brought truck into the dealership multiple times for the very same thing freezing cold on the right side and on the driver side 95 degrees I am getting frustrated even in the winter seasons it's much too cold I have to close off the vents on the drivers side!
The dealership wasn't able to figure out the issue?
Mine does do that but it has a enough Freon what else could be the problem
Thanks for the confirmation, its going back to the dealer again for the 4th time. How many condensers can you change in less than 3 years! 🙄 Beware of the 2019 Civics
Those newer Civics definitely have issues with the A/C system and the newer refrigerant that is being used.
I have a 16 and it’s going back for its 4th condenser replacement besides the air it runs great with just basic maintenance
