It's 2022 and I've just followed your video to fix the exact problem I have on my 2008 Odyssey. Thank you for a very detailed video, I'm sure I've just save a bunch of money watching your 7:55 minutes video.
Thank you so much! Yesterday, I started sweating in my van, this morning my wife found your video, and this afternoon we removed the parts and manually fixed it! We took our van into Honda last summer and for a clicking sound coming from the dash. He told us it was a common problem and there was a motor that was going bad. He said it would probably cost about $400 to replace. If this is that same "motor", then your video just saved us $300!!!! Thank you!
Brian Hanifin Your are very welcome Brian,You are right, that is the motor that drives the hot and cold air. I'm glad I was able to help you and your wife fix your air issue.
Toyota Rv A follow up. We installed the new motor (ordered from your link) on Sunday and put everything back together and it is working wonderfully! Thank you again.
a fix that usually works (maybe not permanent): turn the AC on and set the fan to highest (5). now move the temperature control to the maximum hottest (HI). leave it there a few seconds, then move the temperature all the way down to coldest (LOW). leave it there a few seconds. your cold air should start again now.
Thank you! I was able to take this cover off and see what to look for. I didn't want to take it apart if I don't have to. Bj Reynolds had a great idea that worked so will go with that for now. I even tracked down the part on line like you suggested. Great video! Very helpful even 7 years later!!!
Thanks so much for this video! I have a 2007 Honda Odyssey which had the same exact problem. I ordered the part online from your link for $100 (which was $60 cheaper than getting from local Honda dealer). I was able to take out the part and replace myself with the help of your video. My hubby was proud! Saved on paying for labor and time having to take van in to the shop. Thanks again!
Thanks a lot. I had the same issue and this video saved me some cash. I disconnected and reconnected, placed some lithium grease to the arms guides. Works perfect. Thanks again.
This was very helpful. I have been hearing little noises under the dash for a few weeks now. Last few days I started to have this issue. After reading all the comments below, I tried the "adjust it to HI, then back to LO a few times", and it seems to now be freed up. I suspect it was stuck and may only need to be lubed a bit, but will keep an eye on it in case I need to replace it going forward. Thanks.
Very informative video! You showed the problem, and showed how to fix it (including the part numbers)! I wish all repair videos on YT were this well-made. My Odyssey was having this same problem, and you saved me a lot of money in mechanic diagnostics. Thank you very, very much!
Like a said to Brian Hanifin, I'm glad I saved you money. I had to break my head a little to fix the problem. But I was able to record it and share with you guys to make it easy on others to find the problem and save money. You are very welcome.
wow....so the past 2 days, this is what happened to me. I was really confused why one side is hot air and the other is cold. Thanks. Now I know how to fix it.
My 2005 Ody EX-L and my 2009 Ody EX-L both had this exact problem. But it wasn't the blend door actuator... it was the heater control valve. The actuator was working correctly, but the valve, while appearing to be in the closed position, was only really fully closed when it was jammed in the closed position. Any tiny bit away from that and it spiked the temp on both sides. If you remove the cable from the valve and jam it closed, it may prove the problem. Part was about $50.
Here's another thanks heading out to you! We had the same problem and you helped me diagnose and resolve issue. It ended up being a very easy fix and I am certain it saved me several hundred dollars! Thanks also for the link to the part. The price was very competitive with other sources I found.
Thanks much for this video. I had the same problem with my 2006 Odyssey, hot from the driver's vent, cold from the passenger's and it made noise like something was flapping around in the vents. Bought the part online, OEM, for $105 and installed it. Works like new.
+Toyota Rv I think the noise was because the hot or cold air vent that was supposed to be fully closed was not and the air leaking through caused the noise. After I replaced the temperature driver motor 79160-SHJ-A41 the noise has stopped and the driver side vent is doing what it should.
Thanks! Also, anyone (while we r talking about honda van problems) else having paint chip off of their van? I am thinking 2008 was a bad year for honda oddyssey. I also have a rattle in passenger door. Just curious to know. Thanks for the tip about raising the temp/the. Lowering it. I knew there had to be a trick like that!
Hi there Thanks for the video, except I have one problem. I have looked at mine and seems to be moving up and down when i change temp. I have taken it off and manually move the white lever aswell and seems to still only blow normal air not cold. but when i move it down by hand it's got like heater ??? so ive put it back on and still moving fine?? Do you think it's low on gas , because I have watched another video and they mention the no. 1 issue is low refrigerant?? what are your thoughts ? Thanks you, lookong forward to your reply
Thank you for your video. I followed your instruction and was able to solve the problem; although the knees felt little sore after kneeling on the floor. It actually took longer to remove the plastic panel then anything else.
Thanks for posting this video! Had the same thing happen on ours. I did that temp fix noted in the comments which worked but if that ever stops working, I'll have your video in my "favorites" to reference. Appreciate it.
@@abisaimoreno2246 I didn't do the repair but just did the Bj Reynolds (in the comments) trick of cranking up the fan and temp to the highest and then moving the temp all the way down to un-stick the heat setting. I've had to do this 2-3 times or so and it's worked every time.
Trying to determine if it is this part or the heat coil. Heat works on passenger side but not on driver side. When I test the driver side, the acuator moves...although not as far as yours appears to. Replacing a heat coil is a major job. Would prefer the fix to be this part but both sides are moving. Did your broken part move at all before you replaced it?
Thank you so much! Your video was so helpful. Replacing that part in our 2006 Odyssey solved the AC problem and the fluttering noise in the steering wheel.
Hi, did you try to plug in the new part to see if the arm moving prior to assemble it back? My new part doesn’t move at all before and after assemble Thx.
I know this old, but I hope my question can be answered. I have this problem and we know it is the driver assembly. We got away with lubricating it for a few months, but it's out again. My husband just said to have Honda do it because it was a pain in the butt. I just ordered the part from Honda ($160) and they quoted me $250 for labor. When I made the appointment they mentioned having to "program it" after replacing it. Is this BS or will it be fine doing it at home? We can think of many better ways to spend $250. :)
Wow!!! That's a lot of money. There is no programing to do. You do what the video says and just switch parts. I never heard of any programing before. I know the 2006 model needs not no programing. I never heard of programing on these part. Good luck!!
I'm having the same problem. I'm traveling across a good portion of the country and while heading up the 15 freeway just yesterday through Utah, extremely hot air was blasting me. I figured I was going to get jacked up from a local mechanic to fix this problem, but now I'm thinking about doing it myself.
Hey @toyota rv! Good stuff here. I have a 2015 that just developed same problem. I can see that both actuators (hot/cold and floor/dash/defroster) are working. I am hot on driver side and cold on passenger. Any other thoughts? Thanks, brother!
good afternoon I have that same problem but mine does not give cold air to the back half of the truck cold the other half not so cold will be the same part you changed?
My problem exactly. Initially I changed relay in the fuse box, it seems solved the problem. But the problem returned after a while. I need to adjust temperature to low in order to temporarily fix the problem. So it is not a relay problem for me. I saw this video, I found my problem is same as this one. The ebay component costs about 65$, not a big deal comparing regular charge for an AC problem. But I dissembled the servo, I did not find it to be too much damaged/wore out, I did a simple clean and add new contact lubricant, the servo works as new again(there is no vibrating noise any more). I believe it is the conducting film got wore out a little, the wore out paste will conducting current and prevent servo to reach correct position. After the extra conducting paste(black in color) was clean out, the servo is back to normal. As I see it, this is a design/manufacture problem, it you set climate control to a fix temperature, after 10 years, this part is doomed to fail. Mine lasted 10 years.
hey there! I am having this issue on my 2007 Honda Odyssey. Similar to your situation, both still work if I place the temperature to "low." Were did you place the lubrication to help?
+Natalie Mauchmar At 5:12 in this video, there is the servo. I open it. And cleaned inside, shown in following pic. www.odyclub.com/forums/attachments/2005-2010-odyssey/53706d1414269088-hot-air-driver-side-vents-cold-passenger-side-inside_motor_img_2214.jpg After cleaning, I put contact lubricant on it.
+Sheng Liwei which replay did you replace? I cleaned the actuator checked that the motor is working, but it still doesn't move the linkage when I put it back in. Thanks.
Is it possible that both passenger and driver side temp driver motor go out at the same time ? My ac won’t blow hot air and both motors won’t move when put on hot or cold
just found this video and ordered my part... the part is definately broken, and won't move, period. even when I have it out, I can't move the arm manually. I did try manually moving the trigger under the dash to get the air flow to turn cold as you mention in the video. unfortunately, that did not make a difference in temperature. any thoughts? or just see what happens with the new part installed?
That's odd that it did not make a difference when you moved it. I hope when you buy the new part and install it, it works. Best of luck to you, tell me what happens after installation.
I NEED HELP! I am trying to remove the panel under the steering column which u already had removed in your video. I'm trying not to break it. I have some of it off on the left side but the side close to the radio is not budging. U mind helping me with this? Can't afford to replace a broken panel. And worse, I'll never hear the end of it from my wife.
Thank you for your video. I have Odyssey 2006. The hot air came out from the passenger side. I looked at the passenger side I didn't see the white parts moving while I turned on the air. Do you have instruction to replace the passenger side? Thank you.
+Toyota Rv Thanks, this video clip is awesome. My Odyssey has same problem : it started with clicking or boiling sound from underneath the driver side and finally it blows hot air to the driver while passenger side is cold. I'll try the fix and follow-up.
Toyota Rv Today, I installed the actuator as you said. Before assembling back, I checked the new actuator was responding correctly to AC control while the old broken one was not. Now AC is working nice and cold. In my case, the difficulties lied more in screwing and unscrewing the vent component and actuator. I do not recommend DIY if you have back problem. Thanks again Toyota RV.
Toyota Rv Question: when you had this problem, if you adjusted the temperature controls up or down, for either the driver or passenger side, did the temperature of the passenger or driver side change at all? I also have the problem where the driver side is warm, the passenger side is cool. BUT I also have the problem that when adjusting the temperature between 65 and 86 for EITHER the passenger or driver side, the temperature does not change at all. It is always the same cold temperature on the passenger side, and always the same warm temperature on the driver side.
question: I had a bad luck, I bought a used honda oddesy 2006 from a very small dealer, dealer sold it as it was, no warranty. I did a test drive, it worked fine, but after I bought it and drove it for several days, I found the AC is passenger and driver side cold, the rear side is extremly hot. if I turn rear side AC on, the driver and passenger side will be warm , and rear side is hot. once I turn off rear side AC, driver and passenger side is ice cold. I went to a Auto repair shop, they said it is honda's common problem with compressor, it would cost me 1200~1500 dollars. oh , my.., I have to find a cheap way to fix it . Finally , I found this video, but the problem is a little bit different, I don't know if this solution will fix my car's problem.
I removed the motor and manually moved white lever both ways and still only hot on left side only. This was quite hard to do for a 50yr fat man to do. Any other suggestions that I might want to try?
There was another posting that mentioned low freon. The gentleman said he added freon to his vehicle and it started working. I have the same situation with my 2006 Honda Odyssey but have not tried either method yet. It appears the easy one would be to check the servo switch for movement when switching from cold to hot provided you can see the servo without removing anything. If it is moving then there is a possibility the freon is low.

Amazing! good work.. sorry about your back. you're right, with a bad back you can't do much.
The temperature on the pasinger did change. but the drivers side did nothing. It just stayed hot.

I think your servo might be more stuck than mine was.
thanks Toyota Rv! got a friend to fill up my freon and now she's blowing cold like a polar bear!
Name of the part, I have it the same problem
Thank you very much for the very helpful video - this was exactly my problem! Much appreciated.
Good help my wife just told me hers was doing the same thing was sweating bullets until I saw the video thanks
I have the same problem on my 2006 Honda Accord??
Yea but how much it cost you ?
Why you don’t said the price please ?
Cost me about $90 for the OEM part and DIY labor. Guessing this really depends on your car and how much have to pay for the part or labor.
Good video, still testing but that seems to be the problem. Thank you.
I opened that part. gears were good, small motor was good. But I assembled them and connect it to odyssey. It still dont work. why?
Thanks a lot, it's worked 😂 you are the master

I did a test drive, it worked fine, but after I bought it and drove it for several days, I found the AC is passenger and driver side cold, the rear side is extremly hot. if I turn rear side AC on, the driver and passenger side will be warm , and rear side is hot. once I turn off rear side AC, driver and passenger side is ice cold. I went to a Auto repair shop, they said it is honda's common problem with compressor, it would cost me 1200~1500 dollars. oh , my.., I have to find a cheap way to fix it . Finally , I found this video, but the problem is a little bit different, I don't know if this solution will fix my car's problem.
bro what you do is to sell your Honda and get the money to fix it. Boom, there you go I just fixed your problem. Your welcome.

How to open passenger side? at 2:01. Thanks!
+Dayong & Lei you have to remove the glove compartment and you should be able to see what behind. it only has 4 screws i believe. good luck.
I did the same but still hot in the driver side. It's something else the problem.
Great vid, many thanks!
I hope your video helps me.
Nice job sir thank you for idea
I removed the motor and manually moved white lever both ways and still only hot on left side only. This was quite hard to do for a 50yr fat man to do. Any other suggestions that I might want to try?
Any luck with your AC problem. I have same symptoms, but I checked, and the motor is working on the driver's side, but it still blows warm air.
Many thanks God bless you
Great video. Good job.
Thanks a lot God bless you .
This is mechanical problem not electrical. No need to check fuses. Ac work, blower works. Obviously this is a vent door sticking open.
Thank you well appreciate it.
trying the hour fuse out
My Honda Odyssey 2006 is happens too but I don’t know how to do haha
