54 year old Jersey born and raised. Left Jersey in 1989 for college in Boston and there is no good pizza north of New Haven Connecticut that's the demarcation line. Maybe there's better now but they just don't get it. My time in Boston was about 10 years and the pizza was usually made by Greeks. Pizzeria Regina in Boston wouldn't be anything in New Jersey nothing but closed. I do miss a nice Boston/ New England roast beef sandwich and some piss clams but that's about it honestly. Everything else after that in the food sense is/during my time was absolutely s***.
Agree 100%. I was born in the Bronx, lived in CT until 8th grade, moved to RI until I finished university (URI), and quickly left and I am back home living in Branford, CT. We have more great pizzerias between West Haven and Clinton than all the rest of New England. Period.
It definitely was not pizza. Meals yes, pizza no. Hell no from someone who has lived in Rhode Island for too many years. I am back in CT near New Haven which is the pizza capital of the world. WORLD!!!!
Having made Rhode Island my home for the last 10 plus years and being from New York I agree with your call on the pizza. Somewhat underwhelming. I drive 20 minutes one way to get a Ny Style pizza in Westerly. It is good but not been able to find that pizza that makes me want to eat it every day.
Please give Alinos Pizza in Mooresville, NC a try. Authentic Italian pizza and it’s my favorite around and I need to know your rating that way I know where I stand on my pizza judging skills.
Dave should try Pizza Patrón, it is mostly on Hispanic districts in some cities around the country, mainly in California and Texas. I heard they are very cheap and you could pay with Mexican Pesos as well.
They had a location in westerly rhode island that shut down, which I'm not surprised about with the better places in town. It was just bland for me. Crust was good but that's all I can say positive on it.
if you're familiar with the TV show called Caught in Providence then you know about the parking nightmare there... and you also probably know the sweet and thoughtful judge there
I'm lucky to live in South Philly where we have the best pizza out of any City! Our pizza is so good we don't even have chain-pizza places like Pizza Hut or Papa John's slop!
Providence has good places indeed but none of the ones Prez hit up. My go-to used to be: Minerva's Nice Slice Pizza Pie-er Nice Slice its its whole own thing tho, wouldn't score well I bet, and moved to Federal Hill tho so I havn't been much, and Minerva's ain't nothing I'd point someone to as exceptional, just a good reliable quality neighborhood pizza.
I’m a providence native , besides casertas all the places you went to are not necessarily “ staples “ in prov , you need to try “ the big cheese “ you need to try “ pizza queen “ you need to try “ sakis pizza “ you need to try “ excellent pizza “ . If you can review these places and then said you were underwhelmed I’ll leave it alone but until that David you know about prov pizza
Those places sound like American fast food places. Do Italian's actually own those? Do they do squares or traditional slices? I'm Rhode Island as well, but currently out of state for work. I usually do the Italian bakery for pie, or drive out to Boston for Santarpio's and a Doughboy Donuts Apple fritter. If I want a quick fix, Big Y market in Walpole Massachusetts with all of the massholes.
Love your reviews , Next time your in Chicago, I got a spot for you.... BTW, your so funny every time you say OK you know how it works, ONE BITE .... and you take 2 bites before you judge... .. very funny ...lol
