Afro-Mexicans have been apart of Mexico's history since the 15th century, it was only until 2020 that the Mexican census allowed people to claim their African ancestry with the latest numbers being around 2.5 million.
Tbh tho the number is definitely higher than what the census says. By 1810, Afro Mexicans made up 10% of Mexico population when it was 5 million. So if Afro Mexican population in 1810 was like 500,000, the number rn is definitely higher than 2.5 million since now Mexico population is 130 million. It’s just madd afro Mexicans don’t claim being afro Latino or they don’t think they afro Latino.
