Is China Surpassing the U.S. in Public Transit and Infrastructure?

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 3 сер 2023
  • For the peoples of both the US and China, nothing is more important than functioning electrical grids, public transit, roads, highways and bridges. So why does it seem in the U.S. that each week more stories of collapsing bridges and highways continue to surface? It’s politically popular in both parties in the U.S. to fix infrastructure, so why does it do rarely and slowly happen? How are people in China responding to the rapid development of new cities and technologies?
We are joined by Walter Smolarek, Editor in Chief of Liberation News, and Albert Wang, key opinion leader across Chinese social media, to compare and contrast the state of infrastructure in the U.S. and China.
Overlap is a global conversation show based on a simple concept - while US elites are working to build a new Cold War environment with China, we want to do the opposite, with people-to-people dialogue and virtual exchanges that show how much we have in common, and how much we have to lose from a new policy of isolation and demonization. This show is made in collaboration with our friends at WaveMedia @WaveMedia, a private media house in China.

I'm Chinese living in the United States for more than 10 years. (living in LA in recent 9 years) My answer to this question in the year of 2023 is: they're not even comparable, China's Public Transit and Infrastructure are both in another level.
I'm saying this not because I'm Chinese, I'm just sharing what I observed in both countries.
US's modern infrastructure does have a long history compare to China, but it's not a excuse to explain the poor maintenance. Take a look at LAX, I believe every single one who experienced it know what I'm talking about. Man this is LA! The second largest city in the States, how come they never consider improving its airport? I really don't understand it. Not even mention the subway system, free ways, bus system.
US's Public Transit and Infrastructure is not only far behind China, it's also far behind a lot of other Asian countries. And I'm also wondering, if China's Public Transit and Infrastructure is not the best in the world, name a country that is better than China on these.

Shouldn't reducing cars or at least reducing the growth and spread of cars be a "climate" or "environmental" ecological goal considering the oft mentioned "climate change" tipping point or danger zone or eventual global calamity or whatever you want to call this fashionable thinking about global warming catastrophe that is supposedly right around the corner for our grandkids or whatever. I am just repeating sentiments that we hear often from a certain environmentalist tradition. It is somewhat similar to the tradition of fundamentalist Christians forecasting the end of the world etc. This is from the book of Revelations if I am correct.
I see that China is focusing on bolstering consumerism. Meaning what? Isn't consumerism basically the main economic model already? Bolstering it means more more more. This sounds very American. Bigger faster better more more more. Shouldn't reducing or replacing cars as a main economic driver be minimized or transitioned to better forms of mass and local community forms of transportation that lower the energy output per aggregate people moved? This seems like one of the quandaries of the day. How come we rarely hear about the energy per person moved equation? Probably because this is a slam dunk argument against individual or family cars.
If only we could make all roads go downhill then we wouldn't spend so much energy ha ha.
