    The second graders loved this video. We are five of those views. We had a brief explanation of wavelengths (prisms and then going broader) to help explain the color changes. Thank you for this and for my ten wonderful minutes of absolute quiet.

      +* Learn of the Jesuit order Ignoramus. Skylab was in service in the 70s, what does it have to do with SDOs pics today? NASA is constantly doing incredible research in many fields of science. I know because I worked for JPL in the mid to late 90s and just JPL alone did some amazing accomplishments during that time: Galileo, Cassini, and the Mars missions. NASA is improving our lives continuously by researching airline safety, tsunami identification & warning, hurricane/typhoon tracking and warning and many other benefits to humankind. What have you and your order done for us????? Not a damn thing. Go back to your cave limbic.

      William Affonso well the sun is slowly cooling and soon will burst and shoot our flames in a massive gorgeous horrifying explosion this completely wiping out the earth but that wont happen in our lifetime. And it's not cooling in these photos they set it in a way to show the hotest flares and plasma bursts so the black spots are not cool they are just the least hot relative to the rest of the sun so no need to worry

    The concentrations of energy (the bright "rings") above and below the equator seem to moving or concentrating together towards the center of the equator. What and why is this?

    • @OLR1337
      @OLR1337 8 років тому

      Casey Hazelton i think its because since the sun rotates, theres more gravity towards the equator, because the centrifugal force of the rotation makes mass go towards it middle. to me it is similar to the direction of spinning water in toilets in relation to which hemisphere you are in

    Awesome! Would've been a little more informative if there were labels as to what type of image we were looking at... Perhaps scales of the temperature and the represented color etc.

    • @asotolp
      @asotolp 10 років тому

      I agree... However, the different colors, I highly suspect are simply lens filters. I don't understand the need to change or display this video with no labels or the need to change filters. Why can't I just see a simple 5-year time-lapse that is straight and consistent with no color changes? It makes me wonder what I could see if the video, was present a bit slower for one, and if the color filters were removed entirely. I appreciate the beauty of the video, but I am always hesitant to embrace these kinds of releases by NASA because I don't understand the logic in releasing it in this manner. This video is a visual marvel, but gathering any real visual data is difficult with no labels and all the color changes. They've done this before with other videos.

    • @patgrady
      @patgrady 10 років тому

      asotolp I'm pretty sure they record the sun at all those wavelengths simultaneously. They just edit them together to make it pop... didn't you notice the changes went with the music?
      If you want the raw video, email someone who works in the program?

    • @asotolp
      @asotolp 10 років тому

      pat grady I know what they're doing here and that is not the issue for me... If you read my previous comment, what I doing is simply questioning the reason behind presenting the video this way and how the opportunity to see some things during the transitional portions, is now lost, or becomes more difficult to identify, because of these lens filters. I don't think that everything is a conspiracy, and this could be as you say, "for pop value" but I still have to ask for the logic in presenting a video this way when all of the previously made sun videos are straight, raw footage without any kind of lens filters. Food for thought; that's all.

      asotolp They aren't really just lens filters - they are different instruments that can see in wavelengths other than visible, and are there because many features are only visible in certain wavelengths, and those can then be studied.

      They have things that block most of the sun to be able to see the corona better, etc. Probably part of SDO itself, and intentional. It appears other times too besides at 2:09 ish.
