Oh I bought the Greenlanders because of Jess aswell! Love a chunky family saga and it sounded so interesting. Also the fact that we haven’t much information about the first Greenland settlers, I wonder what artistic choices Smiley made.
The Outsider by Richard Wright, The Drift by Serpell, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Last thing You Surrender by Leonard Pitts,Jr. and Small Island by Andrea Levy are my jumbo book planned for year.
The Big Rock Candy Mountain is a lesser known book of Stegner and definitely something I want to read at some point as well after really enjoying another of his books.
I hope you enjoy Cutting for Stone - it's one I dnf'd but I know a lot of other people enjoyed it (I didn't get along with the writing and the story). The Greenlanders definitely sounds intriguing. From my shelves, Our Share of Night, The Books of Jacob, and The Romanovs (a history) are my largest books and I'm most likely to read the first one this year I think.
Happy 2024. I'm planning to read "Ædnan" with this one book club I am involved in.🙂 Other gigantuan books on my pile of possibilities for 2024 are "A Little Life" by Tanya Yanagihara and "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides.
So many interesting books here! Ive never heard of Traveller of the Century before and that has piqued my interest! Have been interested in Fayne and heard nothing but good things about it. The Greenlanders is one I'd heard of before but your description has made me really want to try it! Cutting for Stone has been on my shelves for a couple of years and want to try to get to it this year. I think it's going to be a good reading year🎉
I'm so excited! When you finish The Eighth Life, do drop a comment (on any video) because it never gets old hearing people's experiences of a beloved book. At first I thought the biggest books on my TBR were a bit of an odd mix, (most of which had been languishing for years on the TBR!), but now I'm re-energised about all of them, they all sound special! Traveller of the Century & The Greenlanders must be priorities though! 😁
Cutting for Stone stays with you, it is great. I really enjoyed The Night Watch too.
I’m starting the year with Fayne. I read that Sarah Waters is working on a new book. So looking forward to it.
Oh wow! I didn't know this and I shall try and contain my excitement! 😁🎉
Big Rock Candy Mountain is such a cool book name
Fayne 🎉 Oh wow, I hope you love it as much as me now.
Your mic kicked butt!
I can't believe I still haven't read any Sarah Waters yet!! And Fayne is also on my tbr thanks to Scott! That Neuman sounds really intriguing!
Happy New Year Charolette. I’ve made a list of 24 books I want to get to this year. Fayne is on that list.
Then I look forward to sharing our experiences with it later in the year! 😁💕

This will be my first Smiley novel, so I'm hoping as you say, that her style is one that suits me as a reader! Can't wait! 😁

Great! - what was the other book you read by him? Does it sound similar to BRCM?

Blimey! You have some absolute MAMMOTHS on your list this year Anne-Marie! 😮

Forgot to say...The Eighth Life is my ultimate 2024 big book! 😂 I've been dying to give it a go for ages!
