Glad you restored it that looks amazing very unique steam locomotive and I think unique to Southern Pacific I think built to handle the Snow sheds in donner pass and pulled the Pacific fruit Express Orange trains. Yes you bet it can easily handle today's train heck it could pull 150 freight cars up donner pass by itself. If I remember it's known as AC10 locomotives. The stack is in back and cab in front I believe more power but also to reduce emissions in the tunnels. By having the stack in back the Crew won't be exposed to so much smoke. No it's not going backwards the cab is the front. Hence Cab Forward design. Traditional arrangement cab in rear smokestack forward. This locomotive smokestack is in the rear the cab is forward.
It wouldn't be able to handle today's trains by far. The F7 ABBA sets that replaced the Cab Forwards were struggling to pull trains only a few years after steam was gone and they had near equal power.
Thanks for showing the restoration of SP 4-8-8-2 Cab Forward #4274 that should've survived with sister cab forward #4294 after it's been famous for being Southern Pacific's last cab forward over Donnor Pass of pulling the excursion train called Sierra Daylight in October 1957.
It would be fantastic to see the 4294 restored and pulling a 25 car passenger special! And with the prerequisite pair of ES44ACs or SD70ACEs on idle and let the big 4-8-8-2 pull the train all on its own! I wouldn’t mind seeing it pull stacks either!
i hate to tell you this but 4294 literally is never going to run again unless we get technologically advanced enough to have a machine be able to scan something and change its condition as well as it’s cosmetic appearance and specs ( kinda like in beamNG where you choose a car then choose what kind of parts it has)
And, sadly, the real Southern Pacific 4274 was scrapped in 1959, unlike the one in the video that was restored. In addition to this, Souther Pacific 4294 is the only SP Cab Forward remaining.
Beautiful... even though I am not a big fan of "Virtual Railroading", I still applaud this. Fun to watch the Cab Forward recovery and to see it operational even if in a Virtual World. Hope to see more advancement in the Technology... maybe even to the point of having to drive wheels creeping in and out of sync!
The return of the cab forward. Restoration and repair work commenced and it was successful. The rusty cab forward reemerges as SP #4274. It looks so good again wearing its original black paint scheme. Welcome back SP #4274.
A living, breathing, masterpiece of engineering and ingenuity and a masterpiece of restoration all credited due the imagineering of the " MASTER " himself... The Magnificent Mr. Gustave... We all love You Personally 💜🕊️ here in Andros, Greece.... With Respect and Admiration towards You Personally... George and Irene Stouraites..... 💜
Absolutely superb restoration loved the Loco's journey. Tho. Steamies are supposed to have white steam out their funnel. Did it perchance take on some bad coal?
Interesting restoration. I'm wondering how the tender, which was originally on a flat car, ended up on the rails with different flat cars bracketing it at about the 3 min mark as the train was moving? Ah yes, the magic of CGI !
On the diesel side, I wish that a 41st U50C would be built, and this time put in copper wiring instead of the aluminum wiring that did the original U50C in.
I've seen some photos of such movements for "dead" locomotives but I can guess it's to act as a "buffer vehicle" as it'll cushion the diesels doing the movement from causing further damage to the "dead" engine they're pull/pushing and to prevent the "dead" engine from damaging the "train" engines themselves. However, this wouldn't be much of an issue with steam locomotives because normally when moving a "dead" steam locomotive, the connecting rod, eccentric rod or even the entire valve gear is removed prior to being moved.
@@newobanproductions Thank you ☺️ because I am from India who don’t know much about it After my some studies I want to be a locomotive driver 🥺 my dream it is
Flat cars are also used to reach couplers of trains that are on like ships or some places to locomotive is too heavy to get on to so they use flat cars that's usually probably What's Happening Here the tracks are too heavy for the Diesels to get on so they using the flat cars to reach the couplers it's kind of a safety thing
If this was real life it would’ve been great truthfully 4274 should never have been scrapped it should’ve been preserved that we would have had to surviving examples of a cab forward steam locomotive besides engine 4294
Another Excellent Restoration of a very precious type of Loco!!

Absolutely stunning Gustavtime. 4274 looks fresh new and glad she was chosen since she pulled the last freight over Donner Pass for a Cab Forward.
RAREST STEAM LOCO IVE EVER SEEN! GREAT JOB!!
To see the rusted Cab Forward turn into the "Living beast of steam" is awesome.
YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! I’VE BEEN HYPED FOR THIS REVEAL FOR SOOOOOO LONG! 🥳🤩⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is something that needs to happen in real life. A Cab Forward to be restored to operating condition, no. 4294.

@@AnimalsVehiclesAndMorethat and also 4294 is literally built INTO a museum. It’s stuck, trapped even
@@overpoweredsteamproduction513 It's not, you could still take it out of the museum roundhouse if needed.
Such a perfect restoration!

Absolutely superb restoration loved the Loco's journey.
