  • I spent a few days in the Arizona gold fields recently and here is the first of several videos comparing the Garrett Axiom to the Minelab GPX6000. They’re not the same, but how different are they from a results standpoint?

    Nothing but trouble with the Axiom, at least 3 of us here in Australia have sent our machines back once or more. Faulty coils, faulty machines, poor ground balance, poor sensitivity, poor stability. Going to take a loss and throw it in the bin as I wouldn't feel right selling it to anyone. Went and got a Minelab GPZ 7000 again, wife has the GPX 6000 - couldn't be happier and back on the gold again....happy days!

      Sorry to hear that! Frustrating for sure, and money down the drain... Hopefully those issues get sorted out, but sounds like you have the best combo available between your two machines. Good luck! Hope you dig up a RIPPER as y'all say!

    Good video. A suggestion for you. NQExplorers channel on UA-cam has some good suggestions for the settings on the Axiom. The depth sensitivity is affected by the Speed setting , default is Medium. NQ recommends Slow. His videos are showing some pretty good results on very small gold at depth with the 11" mono, timing on Fine, track on Off, speed on Slow, sensitivity all the way up. Might be worthwhile to check his videos. Another Australian user Gone Bush has a good comparison between the 6000 and the Axiom in very difficult mineralized soil.

      Good recommendations! I will try that next time. On the next trip, I will only have the 6000 but hopefully I will be able to get in more time with the Axiom soon! Thanks for watching!

    What is the make and model of the nugget finder coil your friend has on his 6000? (You mention it at the end of the video). Thanks! And, thanks for the informative video!

      That is a nugget finder exceed 11x7. It’s a mono coil, but due to the shape of it it is really easy to pinpoint like a DD coil. It’s also very deep, and you won’t want to remove it once you put it on! I have the exact same set up and it’s really nice being able to get the coil in between and around things that those larger round coils just have trouble with.

    I was hitting gold nuggets on that same spot with Axiom that weighed 1 grain but Owen was hitting so clearly. Also didn’t look like you held the ground balance button until it beeps. Also been watching Steve herschbauk (bad spelling) but he says there’s another setting for the ground balance that you have to get into. But I think the 6000 is better as of right now.

      I did finally get into the ground balance window setting, just not on camera. There were times that the EMI was heavy, then adding the interference from Owens 6000 when he would get too close! I had to laugh a few times when I realized the machine was fine, I was just not paying attention to environmental factors that caused it to be unstable. Honestly I think I needed to have JUST the Axiom, away from everything, for probably that magic 100 hour time period everybody talks about. But for dang sure, that machine WILL find gold and is a viable alternative to ‘big blue’!

      Send me your number thru email (in my profile) and next time out I’ll call. My big plan is to focus on hillsides and find a patch! So far I’ve seen two high yield patches in the areas we hunt. There has to be more! But those hillsides are brutal..

    It sounds like a really high threshold the entire time. How do you know when it’s picking up gold? Does it stop the threshold or does the threshold go higher? I couldn’t tell a difference at the beginning.

    • @randystreasureadventures
      @randystreasureadventures  Рік тому +1

      It has a high pitched threshold and when you pass over a target the threshold spikes and alerts you to a target. Basically a high tone followed by a tone that is lower than the threshold. If you hear Owen’s 6000 towards the end, the Axiom makes the same sound.

      The axiom is an amazing machine but there’s a lot of settings to learn including the threshold which is adjustable. The biggest issue with the axiom it’s so new and we’re all trying to figure it out the other thing is we think it need to run high sensitivity which I’m learning is the opposite. The 6000 is a much easier machine and it’s so finely tuned with a lot of auto technology built in. The Axiom needs to be noise canceled and ground balanced to the location, this being said after I’ve went out with Owen twice now and the Gpx6000 hits targets so clearly and precise so I just ordered mine will I keep the Axiom and actually learn it and wait for the update that will tune the bugs outa of it. Can wait to play with the 6000 this weekend. Another hint the Axiom works better with the DD coil and lowering the sensitivity 😊. Great video brother

      @@rollandsaxton yes I definitely felt like it had more to the settings that I needed to learn. Only having it out for a few days AND trying to run the 6000, which is new to me as well, I think I only scratched the surface. Yes, the 6000 is very turn on and go, and in some ways reminds me of my old SDC2300. But the Axiom clearly has a lot to offer and I would say has a slight edge in ergonomics. I didn’t get to try the DD coil, we were bouncing from place to place and trying to get footage at the same time. Filming and hunting is work! Lol…

      @Randy’s Treasure Adventures I know it's hard trying to film, think trying to learn the machine. I was talking to Owen last night and he told me to watch the video. I think once they refine the software and update the AXIOM it's going to be an amazing machine. But I'm just too new at detecting and tired of Owen getting all the gold lol

    • @randystreasureadventures
      @randystreasureadventures  Рік тому +1

      @@rollandsaxton Yeah, he generally beats everybody on every trip! He just goes out so often that his ear is well tuned. He specializes in finding tiny gold in tough ground, and that’s just something I probably will never learn just because I only come out a few times a year! I’m also stubborn and want to find a large nugget, plus like to explore…I just call it A.D.D. and then I can blame SOMETHING for not finding gold, lol!

      ~I heard the GPX 6000 had an audio problem factory recall ‘and also’ the coils are not so good (hollow, loose internal wires, and touch sensitive) but the aftermarket coils from Nuggetfinder and Coiltek are better.

      @@royjohnson465 all good brother! I am NO expert on either machine! I would be comfortable if the Axiom were my only machine! The main difference that I can see is in our areas that have been beat-well past the point of turning the ground into dust, lol-we only find tiny nuggets, sometimes not much larger than the head of a pin. In those scenarios, it does seem that the GPX hits those targets harder than the axiom. However, the axiom does hit those targets. I think the question would be is it enough of a signal to stop you? Now I will also say that most of those tiny signals like that, even on the GPX, give me lots of trouble. I still fall into the trap of listening for the bigger signals, and not those very faint responses. In my case, I fell into a really good deal on the GPX just before heading out to run the axiom. That is why I ended up carrying two machines with me all the time. My original intent was that I would only have the axiom and would walk along with my buddy who has the 6000 and we would just compare one target after another. Turns out that’s a lot more difficult proposition than what I thought and I had to edit the videos heavily in order for them not to be super long and boring. Had I not fallen into the deal that I did, I would have bought the axiom, and as I mentioned, I would feel perfectly fine to have that in the Gold Fields, it is an extremely capable machine and hits harder and deeper on targets than my SDC2300 did. Plus, you have the added benefit of being able to change coils. If my wife would not kill me, I would have both machines and maybe just alternate using each one on different days. As to the noise on the GPX, I believe that has been attributed to something with the wiring of the speaker. I’m not really sure but I definitely know that that machine Hass to be noise canceled multiple times and even multiple times in a row. My buddy runs his machine in auto plus with the threshold on, which is as hot as that machine can run. Of course we also deal with a lot of EMI in our areas. But we both used the 2300 for several years and kind of got used to a bit of a wavering threshold. That is a little bit of work to get used to. I think I made the mistake of running the axiom wide open to try and compare it to the GPS because it was running wide-open. It seems that the axiom is a smoother machine and had a run it at less sensitivity. It might have performed much better. I’m hoping I can get my hands on one again to do some more comparisons at some point!
