    Fabulous vintage cross stitches, Christine! I have no problem with stamped cross stitch - it's the very first thing I ever stitched as an 8 year old in the 50's! My mom would iron-on the stamped designs to kitchen towels, then show me how to stitch them! Who knew this would lead to a lifetime of all kinds of stitching! Good luck with your back surgery. I've had three separate back fusions (all lumbar and some cervical) and have come out better than ever! Hugs, Candace

    Christine, your videos are like a treasure trove…may I suggest that you think about painters cloths for simple curtains…you can fold the top over and stitch down…I think they call it a shirred pocket at the top to fit over a pole (like for a closet)and they can be dyed too if desired…I have not been out because of Covid…but Lowe’s use to carry them…loved your antique samplers…I did some stamped samplers when I was first married in 1966…still have one to finish that I started in 1973 or 1974…a lot of speciality stitches to be done…hope everything went well with your back surgery…wishing you the best and happy stitching❤

    Yes, I loved Holly Hobbie growing up in the 70's. I probably had a lunch box, but no longer.
    I still have my original Holly Hobbie cookbook---it has been well used and loved (read naturally antiqued.) It is blank, lined pages where you write your favorite recipes down.
    I also loved Betsy Clark---also of Hallmark fame during the70s. I still have that little cookbook as well.
    I just love all your wonderful old stuff! The stamped cross stitch was wonderful to see; my first child's birth sampler was printed/stamped embroidery. Born 1978. Such great memories!

      I went to an antique mall today and it was like reliving my childhood. So many things there from my youth! You know you’re getting older when that happens.

    Hello Christine, another great video. love that you share your vintage treasures. OMG - that is the Holly Hobbie design, I did my first decoupage craft with. So sweet. As I have been out at antique/flea market shops, I come across the framed stamped cross stitch and as I look at these, I agree, these have been stitched by hand and worthy of being recognized. I found one this week with birds, flowers, and quote by Thoreau. It looks like linen background, and yet large Xs. Love the sewing basket and quilt. Lots of vintage fun. Blessings from Colorado.

    Hi Christine. What a great "visit" with you. Thank you for the postive comments about stampled cross stitch projects. I think we have all done "em! I have fondest memories of summer vacations and doing crafty projects with grandma. And Herschnerrs!!! OMG I went right to the website to check out the stamped blocks. I used to pour through the catalog and circle all the things I wanted to do. I was truly blessed with parents that encouraged me to try all the crafts. Thank you for sharing your vintage finds and your idea for your curtain. Sending good thoughts for your surgery.

    I love that quilt of your grandfather's! So unusual and the pink circles are charming! ❤️ the embroidered panels are also fab! Simply gorgeous. I cross stitched several stamped samplers in my childhood and it was really fun to see similar pieces in your collection. Sadly, mine are memories only, I don't know where they went. No Holly Hobby for me, I am older than you! I had a Ginny doll that I remember fondly. Thank you for making your videos, they are ALWAYS interesting.

    Love your curtain idea in more than one way, first I think it’s a great way to respect the work of the person who started the stitch, second I love when things are repurposed , third it’s a great solution to your door situation. I appreciate you sharing your appreciation of stamped samplers. I think my problem with the stamped is that for me to stitch them they are too restrictive. I want things my way and usually my way isn’t the “normal” way. I want a different size, a different background etc. Counted cross stitch and quilting allows me to do things my very own way. Wishing you the best with your surgery. Glad you’re planning things to do while you are recovering.

    • @mountaincraftsstudio
      @mountaincraftsstudio  2 роки тому +1

      I can see how a person could feel restricted with a stamped project. It’s funny because others might feel they need a pattern laid out for them. We are so lucky that this art allows us all to participate however we like.

  • @annm8680
    @annm8680 2 роки тому

    Your idea to use the partially finished quilt top kit as curtains is brilliant. When you held it up, the blue cabinets on the back wall went with it perfectly. I made a curtain with selvedges to hide my fabric. I have it attached at the top with rings that clip on. They are on a curtain rod. That way, I’m able to slide it to the side to access my stash.
    I have one of those vintage unfinished, like new, stamped x Bucilla tops. I may do something with it like you are doing. I don’t like it as a quilt top.
    I rescue vintage needlework too. I am making a project roll to store my cross stitch. I am using a fabulous needlepoint piece I bought on Etsy. I am finishing it by using Vonna Pfeiffer’s tutorial.
    Every time I watch you I get inspiration.
    P S I’ve had three different sciatica attacks before when I could barely walk or even get out of a chair. I had to use a cane. I’m extremely interested in how your experience goes.

    • @mountaincraftsstudio
      @mountaincraftsstudio  2 роки тому

      Oooh I like your project roll idea. I’ve been planning to make one, but I was going to just use plain old fabric. Now you’ve got me thinking. Hmm…
      I am so sick of this back issue. It’s been on and off for years. Now it is full-time on. They are planning to fuse the two vertebrae together that are moving, so hopefully that will eliminate most of my pain. Then I’ll have to do physical therapy to try to gain strength back in my left leg. I hope you don’t have to go through this, it has not been a fun experience.

  • @Dinahflo1

    The curtains will be lovely! I enjoyed seeing the vintage samplers you have collected. I have several, found at yard sales or thrift stores. My favorite find was a half finished Lord’s Prayer which I enjoyed finishing. My question with the stamped samplers is whether or not the next stitch has to be joined into the previous stitch, or if there’s a tiny gap between the stitches. Sometimes the stamped stitch does not touch the previous stitch.
    I hope your surgery is successful in every way and that your recovery time will be quick and that you have lots of projects to enjoy.

    • @mountaincraftsstudio
      @mountaincraftsstudio  2 роки тому

      I think it doesn’t matter as long as you are consistent. I have seen them done both ways. I have noticed the smaller the crosses are the more likely they are to join. The large ones, such as the curtains, definitely do not join.

    Hey, Ms. Christine! Ooh... historical evidence of templated needlework!?! Who'da thunk? I have always been astonished at the juvenile talent from days gone by... and granted, alphabets and simpler motifs may still have been original renderings... but it's kind of comforting to know that the majority of needleworkers both past and present have enjoyed the benefit of a well-charted design. Speaking of charting... your "The house may be wee..." sampler is flippin' adorable. I'd stitch that (*elbow, elbow*). Your collection is super-interesting and unique. Thanks for sharing~~ :)

    Love your vintage samplers! I too found the same sampler as you at a thrift store it’s the blues and greens stitch house sampler. Do you know where pattern came from?

      I do not off the top of my head. I want to say it was sold as a kit in general craft stores, but I don’t recall the brand name.

      No worries. I actually found out it was a paragon kit from the 1970’s. I just watched your latest video. I love the old church craft building!!! Wish I lived closer!!!!
