Hats off to that driver, that's some hairy terrain and gradients to be hauling that beauty around👍 Great close up shots at the beginning. With all that surplus smoke and steam swirling around it gave an impression she was "alive". Now go and have a sit down and a cuppa, it's been a busy weekend!!🤣 Cheers Matthew👍👍
Can't say I envy him. But the whole team appeared to do an incredible job chauffeuring SKP around. Glad you liked the picked-out specifics. The fact she's still looking this well after a 10 year stint is a real credit to SLL, and the Spa Valley in their mutual care. A good sit down was had, but now on to the next one.
For those who don't know, the New Zealander Keith Park commanded 11 Group during the Battle of Britain. I recommend reading his Wiki biography. A great man, portrayed in the movie by Trevor Howard, who had a remarkable resemblance to Park. Neither of them looked like steam engines.
As a Kiwi I've always known about Keith Park, but what I didn't know is that for the last ten years I've probably passed this more than once driving a truck down to Swanage 2 or 3 times a week. Its great to see him honoured even though he didn't look anything like a steam engine.
@@DomingoDeSantaClara Only March 2018 to September-ish 2020. Before that, 34053 was based at the Severn Valley Railway. After that, the Spa Valley Railway.
You've had a busy bank holiday weekend! Had been wondering if you'd be attending the Dorset Steam Fair this year, so glad to see you were able to make it :)
Omg! 😂🤣 This vender is basicly like "Don't mind me! Just a steam locomotive in the middle of a field. Nothing to see here!" omg this is amazing! There is a similar fair/festival near me this coming weekend and I'm excited to see steam Traction and trains! Thank you for sharing!
Hello there. I really enjoyed that bit of nostalgia. Iv never seen has many live Engines. Although I once went to a farm in Essex. They had a collection of old steam Engines of all types and old Lorrie's. They demanstrated two Fowler plowing Engines. It was a friend's unical that farmed down there that took us.
Looked a little precarious on the back of the lorry, but I'm sure they would've been certain it wasn't going to fall off or they wouldn't have done it. Went to the excellent Shrewsbury Steam Rally yesterday, which likewise had its first event for 3 years. A certain Richard Hammond made a surprise appearance as well, filming for tv show!
If I may use a quote from James the red engine: "Dustier and dustier!" Lot of dust on the Alleleys truck and in general. Looks more like the desert than Dorset!
Likewise, I was down at the Great Dorset Steam Fair yesterday, and I too was quite impressed seeing "Sir Keith Park" standing alongside the miniature railway. By the way, what time did you arrive? I was there from 7am to 2pm; I was hoping to film No. 34053 being loaded onto the trailer but my camcorder battery ran flat by then! 😄
Blimey wouldn't want to be the driver towing her around on that uneven ground. I'm surprised they allowed it really. What would've really made it 110% if they had a traction engine with a cable drum pull her onto the low loader but i understand the chances of that being possible is probably quite slim. 😃👍
Isn't Sir Keith Park going for overhaul straight after Manston's comes out? If so hopefully it will be a relatively quick come back compared with Eddingstone
That's the plan. It's having a boiler swap with 34010 to speed it up, as much of the bottom end was done in 2018-19. Aiming for it to return late 2023.

Nice, I passed it yesterday 30th August heading towards you.

To say the least - was very relieved to get home.
It was a bit touch and go, but ultimately couldn't resist. Hope you're well!
Nice video :)

Just seen them unloading at the railway, its impressive to say the least
Even 10 years later, a real credit to the team who restored it.
At least it answered why it wasnt at Spa Valley but its tender was there.

You mean "Eddystone", not "Eddingstone"!
