As a scientist myself, there is an unfathomable amount of knowledge that we still do not know, and some of that may be unknowable. The job of the scientist is to explore what we can through what means we can, but both of these are very limited. We’re still probing various areas of the Earth and discovering new species and processes. Make no mistake, most scientists are not the certain, arrogant pricks most people think of when they hear the word “scientist”. We are very aware of what we don’t know. We have to be or else there would be no reason to come to work and continue making discoveries and the technologies that may result from such discoveries.
Sadhguru’s right though. Science, especially the medical research I’m involved in, has largely become product-driven. Exploratory science simply for the sake of exploration and knowledge acquisition is a thing of the past regrettably.

As a scientist myself that believes in pursuing the truth whilst remaining open to all possibilities, I loved this interview and see that this scientist understands the essence of science. When you see people online completely shutting down any spiritual or religious ideas and claiming that they 'believe in science'...that kind of mindset is completely unscientific.
The entire purpose of science is to learn more, to replace and improve upon previous ideas, so it requires open mindedness. There should ideally be no opinions in science, so listening and learning is only natural. Science doesn't claim to have all the answers and only accepts something as the truth if it able to be proved beyond reasonable doubt. Until then, everything else is just a possibility.
This is why I believe that science is actually quite compatible with spirituality and other such things, or at least, science is unable to completely deny or accept these concepts until it can be proven one way or the other.

Truth to be told I think Sadhguru kept deviating away from the narrative of "who am I". The fundamental disconnect between modern science and spirituality is that as per the prevailing modern scientific intuition the self is not seperate from the materialistic constitution. The "conscious being" is a by product of the arrangement of the matter. As the neuroscientist explained that Houston's identity comprises of the roads and bridges and the monuments....
On the other hand the spiritual notion is that consciousness is not a by product of the materialistic arrangement. Since we are aware of the body-mind, that itself indicates that the body-mind is the object of our experience and "we" are the subject... And the subject and object has to be separate. Hence even though there can be changes in the body and the mind, there always remains a witness.. The awareness is always there.... Even when we are in deep sleep or faint... The witness in us is aware of the blankness...
I think Sadhguru could have explained that in a better way..

You are close. If you take a hybrid approach of mysticism and science, then things are very clear.
"I" am life(Prana) created by 2 chemical entities fusing together(DNA/RNA). All the information in the pattern of those chemical structures, helps to accumulate, build and keep the life in a specific form. It could be ant, elephant or human. Even the consciousness is also part of the pattern of the code.

When the Veterans Affairs threw me under the bus for care and I was close to succumbing to the depression by taking my life, my awareness to my situation triggered a dilemma within between survival and my own inner turmoil about my identity. It may sound confusing as I can't put into the words the awakening I had within my conscience but I chose to live my way rather than be limited by the identity my situation constricted me to be.

Scientists won't understand what you mean by a "piece of life." If you want to have a real discussion, you have to speak in a language that the other person can understand. To come together, both people have to become fluent in each other's native tongue. The yogi who wants to reach people who speak only the language of scientific materialism must first acquire a sufficient understanding of the intended meaning behind the words of the scientist, and how to accurately predict how the scientist will interpret anything the yogi himself might want to say. It's not an easy task by any measure even with the right education, and while there is a level of spiritual mastery which allows one to fluently speak in any unfamiliar tongues intuitively, Sadhguru does not seem to be quite at that level.

If you have a tooth ache it produces a sensation of pain that you experience as a sensation or feeling....it doesn't mean you are the tooth ache. The body is just a vehicle for the soul....your true self which is pure consciousness

There is a true incident where Swami RamKrishan param hans was in Samadhi and Swami Vivekananda put a burning coal on his head and left it until hair burned and skin beneath started burning.
He took off the coal and Swami RamKrishna stayed in samadhi for few hours with no outside activity or response. When he got back to bodily state after few hours he cried like hell that wat happened to my head. So yes , as long we are connected to body, toothache is hell.
      😊
But who learned to live without is free.

The heading of the video is incorrect.
    SadhGuru is not explaining that a person is not a body or mind;
He is explaining that by detaching yourself from worldly/material/perceived things, you can invoke your soul which is your real identity.

Some people don't understand and don't want to understand how things work .
For example Indian education system is laying emphasis on result .
Humans learn from process not result i.e. it is similar to materialism .

Yes same in USA - learning to ask questions is more important than memorizing the “right” answers. The first is based on exploring the world through curiosity and intellect. The second is being programmed.

It is too much to say we are not the body or the mind. What can any one prove in themselves is that there is a state in which the body and the mind experience intense emotions of joy and clarity. This is true and any one who wants to put some effort can experience it. Once we die nobody can tell what happens, but is this truly important? What matters if we are not able to feel happy in the present

@@beowulf555 Well, you would lose the bet. Socrates born at 470 B.C and died at 399 B.C. Alexander the Great was the first contact of the western civilization with India during his campaign at 328 B.C. Indians took in fact their name by Alexander because they lived next to Indian River. There are many things you don't understand about Socrates..i bet you haven't read about him.

I do not need to think. I see things so clearly. As soon as you think about things, you are absent... in fact, philosophy is a mind approach. My teaching is a no mind approach.
