I’ve held huge colony’s of the green ones and my fingers have been covered in slime plenty of times and I’ve never had any problems. I just wash my hands with soap when I’m done. I believe as long as you don’t get it in your mouth or eyes your fine.
I had a bad experience in June 2016, did a video about it. Scared the living sh*t out of me. Told my husband what to tell the paramedics if things should go sideways overnight. Still have a cough from that. 😳
There are some recorded deaths from palytoxin in the literature: Tubaro A, et al. Case definitions for human poisonings postulated to palytoxins exposure. Toxicon 2011;57:478-95.
This is incredibly rare to happen the only reason this gotten so popular is because of an idiot guy who boil his live rock with corals in it and inhale the toxins
I react mildly everytime i maintain my tank... i love my palys and zoas . i just dont eat them or rub them on fresh cuts or eyes. running carbon helped a ton.
could be the green button palys, the Kenya tree, would be my guess, I could just be sensitive to the saltwater. everytime I do water change or maintanence I get really stuffed up and congested.
Great video. It's TRUE you have to be careful with so many misleading items out there. I once bought a box of safety matches, lit one and stuffed it down the back of the sofa. In no time at all it was a blaze. So much for those safety matches. Never again.
done what you said few years ago took all my rock out and pressure wash them that night had bad fever felt hot and cold shivers and did not stop shaking never again lesson learnt sorry can not spell
I have just been testing the equipment of my various aquariums for magnetic field intensity, and was quite alarmed by the results, the worst offender was the protein skimmer giving off 105 µT (microteslars) and a small canister filter was giving off up to 60 µT. The field strength was still up to 25 µT at a distance of two feet from the skimmer. A functioning washing machine gave an up close reading of 2.65 µT which dropped to zero at 2 foot distance! Fields greater than 0.2 -0.4 µT, are considered very harmfull and have links to various cancers. I'm rather pleased my tanks are in an outbuilding and not in a living space! My question is why is aquarium equipment giving such high readings in comparrison to a washing machine on a spin cycle? With cancer affecting 1 in 3 and predicted to rise to 1 in 2 in a few years, perhaps we should be paying attention to the EMF's in our living spaces and perhaps consider the health of our fish and start demanding electrical equipment for aquaria to meet higher standards than they are at the present time? My Meterk Digital LCD EMF Meter Detector cost £13.25 on ebay.
How can I get rid of them? Can I use bleach? And if so how much and for how long ? . Sorry for so many questions but I’m getting my dads reef tank sense he doesn’t have time for it anymore and I’m worry of how to get rid of them
Going to send this video to my mother, she just sent me another "coral will kill me" email after reading an article telling me I'm gonna die from my reef tank. lol
That's crazy I literally removed a colony of poly not zoa corals from rock by hand with tweezers literally plucked like 40 out with no protection. 😳 I did start to feel funny but was fine after a bit..washed my hands with soap then peroxide then alcohol and soap one more time Please don't do what I did stay safe.
I'm still not sure if I shoukd put these into my aquarium.. I mean they're really pretty, but I'm afraid of the toxins, especially when working on the aquarium while being pregnant. Maybe I will put them in there when the children have become old enough..
I’ve had these a bunch of times and Always treated them with respect and care, so I’ve never had a problem, but I do think I’ve seen negative reaction in a fish that picked at it.
Prestige Reef they could be! It’s always hard to correlate exactly, but it was an out of the blue reaction for the fish and the coral looked damaged. I’d imagine the toxin evolved to protect them from marine organisms and not boiling though, so it seems likely that it would be a somewhat effective deterrent against nibbling sea creatures.
Wash hands before eating, drinking.. and smoking! I heard about a guy who fragged his zoas then rolled a roll up and smoked it.. he was in hospital soon after😂

“Please don’t drink bleach” 😂 lol
Had to be said :p
You know what as soon as he talks about bleach disinfecting at my first thought was so I should drink bleach! So he probably should have put that in
like who would drink bleach

you are wrong, it's enough if you have a bit deper scratches on your hands and get in contact with water with secreted poison.
I’m pretty sure having a hobby that can kill me makes me seem edgy to my friends.....🤔
lol so true

Wow that must have been bad!

I was looking more specifically for fish keepers
Next article will be about the 'health benefits' of eating Brain Coral everyday to prevent alzheimers
Everyone should be doing it
Are zoanthids and palytoas the only coral that can be leather?
I really want a small coral tank . They’re so cool looking , it’s relaxing to just look at .
I look like a surgeon when I frag zoas/palys - better to be safe than sorry!
Totally agree 🙂
I'm a beginner, and I am gonna buy some zoas at my LFS next week, and I wanted to make sure that I don't poison myself. Great video!
Watching the video is a good place to start :)

tuxedo urchin it is. thanks.
I wonder what you are reacting too

Love your vids always informative love the new website too will be ordering once my nano is set up keep up the good work
I look forward to packaging up your order :p

lol that probably wasnt a good idea...
Can you get exposed by touching them
Thanks, but I'll stick to macroalgae and softies for now. Don't want to tango with anything that could send me to the ER if I don't have to
You're brave fragging them
its not to bad when you have protection
done what you said few years ago took all my rock out and pressure wash them that night had bad fever felt hot and cold shivers and did not stop shaking never again lesson learnt sorry can not spell
People usually learn their lesson the first time :p

Thank you that has made me feel so much better
Your website is amazing!
Thank you

Particularly gifted reefer 😂😂😂
lol couldn't resist
"Don't drink bleach." Thanks Ryan, I needed that laugh.
I haven't come across it but has anyone ever be poisoned by starting a "syphon" when doing a water change or similar?
I haven't found that either, I think you'd have to be pretty unlucky
The prettiest things are often the most deadliest
lol very true
Can it kill you from just touching the picture of it?
gorgeous and informative video
Thank you :)
if one of the polyp stem ripped off , can the toxin be released in the water and affect the other corals and fish?
I don’t believe fish are effected by the toxin as some fish eat them
Going to send this video to my mother, she just sent me another "coral will kill me" email after reading an article telling me I'm gonna die from my reef tank. lol
lol I'm not sure that will make things better
Do all coral have toxins if handling it wrongly

Love the comment about the gobstopper 😀
lol couldn't resist
Plenty to think about
:D

There are lots of other nice corals too :)
What were the zoas/palys at 1:40?
I'm not very good with Zoa names but possible an everlasting gobstopper
They should be cats eye , but pink zippers and armor of gods look very similar
Great info!
:)
I’ve had these a bunch of times and Always treated them with respect and care, so I’ve never had a problem, but I do think I’ve seen negative reaction in a fish that picked at it.
Thats interesting, I was under the impression fish were immune to the toxin... maybe not all of them

i got these corals in my bedroom :(
Don't tell my husband!
Deal
Is xenia coral , you say is bad and danger, i must be careful now
lol no xenia isnt dangerous... just dont eat it :p
What's that cute fish with the 'pointy nose' at 2:11? 😊
Tailspot blenny
I own several of these palys.
I already knew about the toxins but a reminder is always good!
#$tayFishy
Can’t wait
Always good to hear :)
I better be more careful when I clean the tank then
Probably wise
I better be more careful
Probably wise
Not risking it
thousands of people do
I'm almost certain I was exposed once
Thats not good
Wait I can’t lick my zoanthids🤔
You don't know if bleach water is bad if you never try #GreatAdvice101
lol that is great advice :p
I keep venomous snakes so im used to dealing with stupid peoples opinions caused by the press 😂
lol I'm not sure I'm that brave
@@PrestigeReef well of your ever up by Liverpool and want to see some cobras give me a snout 😂
This aged like milk.
A polyp a day keeps the doctor away!
lol I'm not sure I should be encouraging that :p
Lol this video did not age well
Wash hands before eating, drinking.. and smoking! I heard about a guy who fragged his zoas then rolled a roll up and smoked it.. he was in hospital soon after😂
lol yet another danger to smoking
(Kill a small fish okay)
(Kill a human oml)
I don't like zoas that much
Me either till recently
@@PrestigeReef definitely did not age well!
Don’t drink bleach? Why is that even a thing. Obviously nobody is gonna do that lmao
