Now, it is not ugly math...let's not be pejorative toward Pythagoras. Every quilter should understand the math involved--because that will help him/her be more flexible at his/her craft. 1.414 is the square root of 2, and is the hypotenuse of a square. You can figure out your side setting triangles and your corner setting triangles understanding this one simple concept. Having said all of that, I do appreciate helper tools that take the frustration out of trimming.I have several of your tools; I love their smart design and appreciate frustration-free, precise results. I love the diamond rec tool. I think that the full diamond (v. sewing two triangles together) is more pleasing/to the eye. I have the squared squared, but I've not used it yet! Your square up tool is wonderful. I have the large and the small. I recently made LeMoyne stars the old fashion way (though I have the RFLS tool). The large trim up made squaring up the traditionally made stars very easy and accurate. There is no other ruler that is so useful in this regard. That the tool has the square up lines inside the edge makes it much more easy to read and line up--to my eye anyway. Your demonstrations are clear, functional, to the point and showcase your tool's benefits.
Mrs. Tucker thank you so much for all of your tips. They really do make a big difference. I treasure the rulers I have from Studio 180 design. Easy to use and your block is accurate.
Great tips! I always do a practice block before I dive in to make sure I am reading the instructions correctly. It also helps me know how to place the triangles on the sides. And accurate 1/4" seams are a must.
Thank you so much! I was having trouble with the centre square. I think my problem is solved, after watching your video Deb. 🎉I’m looking forward to improving my square in the square units. Thanks again. Connie🇨🇦
Just bought it this weekend at my local quilt shop to support them from their shutdown period. Need to study your tutorial to understand how to use it. Thank you for all of the videos!
Thank you - I have one of the older rulers and I appreciate the tips - I used to sew with triangles on top, but remember your tip about the square on top (well after you reminded me again) so have tried to do that when making other blocks - always seems weird to do it, but definitely better results!
Hi Deb, when your making a red & white quilt. Do you prewash your red fabric? And if your using prewashed fabric, should all the fabric your using be prewashed? Thank you for you time.
I would absolutely prewash when I'm working with high contrast fabrics, and I would prewash all the fabric so it is all preshrunk equally when it's pieced.

I LOVE it when the math is explained! And I love it that we can use your tool so we don't have to deal with 16ths of an inch!
Love your videos! As a former math teacher I have to say that you make things clear and easy to understand.
I am a math teacher too. I teach high school. Her videos are wonderful.
Wow, thank you!

You are so welcome!
I bought both the Square Squared and the Diamond Rects rulers specifically for the Storm at Sea quilt I'm planning!
I hope you'll send me a pic of your finished project 💜
