I used to live in Bali in the 1970s. It was a village of about 200 people. No traffic at all. One man living nearby had a car from the 1930s. Other than the rare Datsun pickup shuttle from Den Pasar his car was the only traffic we'd see parked in front of the picnic table restaurant the odd night. There were three restaurants, Chandri's, on Main Street, which looked like a fort and had a hostel inside. She made exquisite pancakes with banana and egg. At that time she was a wonderful skinny lady always draped in Bali batiks. She and I got along well. Where I ate usually was a small restaurant across the intersection, four picnic tables serving patrons in a nippa hut, the young man cooking on a small thin-metal oval stove of the kind we used in the bush in Canada to warm up skid shacks. He had one frying pan and cooked for a full house with that. He was about 17 or so and his sister waitressed. They lived on a farm south of town about a half mile along a narrow path. They invited me there and I was honoured to visit. The third restaurant in town was built in the gully near the only water source at the time, down the steep path to a stream. The women used to walk down with containers and walk back up with the containers on their heads. The nippa hut style restaurant was built at the low point of the gully road. Very nice inside. Definitely the best restaurant in town. An American writer married a Balinese woman, very dignified lady, served up Balinese and American food, You could get a hamburger and a beer there as well as what they called, "sticky buns," a cinnamon bun- without the cinnamon- covered in white icing. It was a village that had many artists and a famous European- I can't recall his name now- had an art gallery there at the time. Ubud then had a very active community gamelan band. I lived in a small place a walk away from the village north of town across a path separating two rice paddies. It's all changed now, of course. Your visit of Ubud now is interesting.
you are literally the most underrated UA-camr there is, I’m still surprised you don’t have over a million followers atp. truly hidden gem 😍 love your content. keep on going 🤍
A new place which I’ve become actually obsessed with is Pizza Cult in Ubud. Amazing food, great service, such a cute venue and really affordable. Also a great place to bring your laptop and work from!
watching your ubud videos really makes me appriciate Ubud more and more. Always thought that coming to bali the only places that I would really liked are the areas in Canggu but Ubud is so much more nature, can be peacefull and still there are beautifull cafes and dining restaurants with amazing sawah views! Im in love!
Yess you’ve definitely got it right! Ubud has more nature so it’s a good mix of busy and peaceful! 🥰 soooo many more cafes than when I last visited YEARS ago so it’s cool

Hi! I’ve been watching all your Bali vlogs in preparation for our trip next week 😊 I was wondering do you need a motorcycle license to rent the bike for the day?
@@TheTravellingQueens hi there! No it wasn’t Bali Paulina - but I wouldn’t recommend the Alas Harum for a coffee tour anyways (it wasn’t really a tour) - definitely try something else 🥰
I was looking for something more deep in the culture and also more on the budgeting side. You might want to label this upscale dining and boutique hotels. That might get you even more views.
