I like this take on behemoth a lot, the bolder blue and red never really spoke to me but this darker version looks super cool. I’d love to see your take on kraken to round out the big 3 hive fleets if you ever got the chance, but that’s just me being greedy for tyranid vids. Nice job!
Henry, your airbrushing has always been solid. Your hairy brush work seems to be getting better and better. Know you prefer army/speed painting but I'd love to see you go all out on a display mini
I really like the black here! I always though the super bright blue on the chitin didn't look right. I still do blue for mine, but I use agrax earthshade on kantor blue to really mute it out and use darker colors in a gradual gradient for similar reasons. I love the purple you used too, it works really well here.
Behemoth! Probably my favorite of all the Tyranid schemes. The red bodies make them stand out nicely and while they look awesome painted in a moody, grim dark scheme, I personally love taking the vibrancy to the max. Like something out of 2nd edition. It's awesome how good that model looks with a very limited palette of colours and without any washes. The oil wash does a nice thing making the carapace look a little more. As for the gloss varnish idea: I think it can work, but not on the whole model. If you limit it to just the carapace then it'll look like a lot of real life bugs. Carapaces are usually a bit shiny.
I know this is a fairly old video, but damn, Henry... You really knocked this one out of the park! I really like this scheme. I think the only thing i would've changed, was using black and dark sea blue for the highlights, on the carapace. But that's just personal preference. Great job!
Coming back to this vid for about the 3rd time, since you put it out - I think this will be a good approach for my 'tasteful' oldhammer nids. My prospective plan is to stick to darker red shades, up to slightly lighter reds, for a bit of range, rather than purples. That said, the gal vorbak made a lot of sense, after you sprayed up with the blue shadows.
I'd been planning on doing mine as leviathan to match my space hulk genestealers, but I may have to go with this instead. The red will be different as I don't want to faff with GW paints unless I love them (barak nar burgundy is one I make the effort for though), but I'll think I'll be going for it with the overall concept. The rate at which I paint means I probably won't have an army painted like that to show off before 11th edition hits though...
Awesome interpretation in Behemoth. If you do end up caving in, wouldn't mind seeing more! Any chance Andy or yourself will tackle the upcoming Fulgrim Transfigured on Patreon?
@@cultofpaint ah so kind of like slap chop but with the varying reds from a black prime? The scheme looks simple but also it grabs so much attention. Great work mate.
I actually really liked the look of both the gloss and satin covered gloss for the carapace, though the skin did look a bit off, though the contrast between matt skin and gloss or satin carapace could be nice, though probably a pain to do for army painting.
So I have clicked onto this one because I have a question and it applies to this vid as much as it does to the Mymeara Aeldari mini you painted. That is, I get it if the primary purpose of your painting is the display aspect of the process because you are invested in your hobby. But, not that I use them, the thing I would be worrying about when using, acrylics, then varnish, gloss and matt and oils with thinners. On one figure it is not much. But when you are doing a full army like Aeldari or Tyranids, expense is going to significantly increase the cost of your army. I have used varnish, but on metal miniatures to stop the wear of abrasion on the edges of the metal. Do you need to increase the cost of your army by 30% or more when you are painting to game? Now I live in Australia where one tube of oils is between $20 & $30. Inks between $10 & $20 and the same for the thinners and varnishes, even Contrast paints exceed $10, $12.50 for my last pot. Is it relatively that much cheaper in the UK?
A tube of oil is going to last you years, multiple armies etc. Yes you need to factor in paint costs if you are doing a whole army, just as you would factor in all associated costs if you are that way inclined. I have had the bottle of gloss varnish for over 5 years.
Love this scheme for tyrannids, I think going more black than blue on the carapace looks much more modern and intimidating
Always seen the red and blue scheme as spiderman
Then it’s just reverse Kronos lol
Would love to see you paint more of these I really liked this a lot
I enjoy the personal and rambling videos!

Oh my days, cant wait to get my Lictor in the mail! Appreciate the guide!

Thanks. It's not so much a preference, more a necessity for the UA-cam channel!

Thanks Kevin, I'd say painting the red on the lictor was one of the most enjoyable things I filmed last year.

Looks amazing
Ive been wanting to do a behemoth army and i think this is how i will do it
Awesome beasty.
honestly the bit about doing the gloss "finish zeithal" i think ill call it was super helpful. Im taking bens scheme and tweaking it to my liking

Why isn’t this conversation being had more widely? Why is nobody talking about this? What can we do?
Much prefer this toned down behemoth. Would love to see your take on hive fleet Tiamet too
I've really enjoyed the tyranid videos, so perhaps Tiamet is a possibility.

I think Andy is very keen for Fulgrim
I know you mentioned in the video that you could do the initial steps with rattle cans, would you just do chaos black and then mephiston red zenithal?
I'd probably heavy drybrush gal gorbak over the black, then rattle mephiston. Or just drybrush all the reds on order.

Awesome work, which colour/pigments is the base?
Vallejo light sienna

I think brush painting the gloss on the carapace would be ok if you really liked the look. I'd use a thinner one like amm0 mig
Henry, the base looks really good too and compliments the model. How did you do the base?
ua-cam.com/video/uPlpBLkUUdA/v-deo.html they've already made a video on it
ua-cam.com/video/uPlpBLkUUdA/v-deo.html used Light Sienna over brown basing paint.

My lazy ass: "its drybrushing time!"
From a few angles it looks almost like Diablo colour scheme

“He’s behind me isnt he?”
Cult of Paint paint range?
That would be great
Gloss carapace with Matt exoskeleton might look good.
Gor vorbak red....not a paint I'd ever thought needed thinning 😅
Behemoth is no more.
Credits Ultramarines.
: )
It just doesn’t look finished to me, but each to their own.
