Seems like we are going back to the days of the late 90s 600 sports bikes with just shy of 100bhp comfort and handling. Perfect bikes in the day. This has the potential to be excellent.
The Daytona name should’ve been reserved for the Street Triple RS with a fairing. That would truly do it justice and would be like a road going moto2 bike. This one looks like a nice bike for the price but should’ve been called something new IMO
I guess Triumph could do what they do with the Speed Twin . Now they have the 1200 released in 2019 , and the street twin is now a Speed Twin 900. i.e. they could release a Daytona 765 , call this one the Daytona 660. The Speed Triple RR, with fairing and drop handle bars could be called a Daytona 1200 ! Mind you this could end up a bit like Kawasaki calling lots of their bikes a ninja !!!! I am sort of with you, the Daytona name should have been reserved to a top spec middle weight sports bike.
Triumph are focusing on giving new riders options right now. Hence the 660 platform & the new 400s. I know everyone wanted a 765RS Daytona with Brembos & Öhlins. But the simple matter is, that would've pushed the price above what young riders can afford.
Looks great, love a 120 degree triple crank. The best of both worlds. Rode them since the XS750C Yamaha of 1976. Also the Laverda Jota with the revised crank. The old was one up two down, a paint mixer.
Wow! That's a great looking bike! I rode the 660 when it first came out, and liked it, but was swayed by the 660 Aprillia that came out back then to. Value looks to be very good, and I love that engine. A friend has a 765 with an Arata titanium aftermarket exhaust that sounds scintillating at 10,000rpm. This new Daytona, with a pipe like that could be awesome... I can't wait for them to arrive in Canada.
Would love to see a comparison video between this and the GSX 8R. Both bikes look good and have a more relaxed riding position which appeals to me. So many new bikes this year!
It will come down to which engine you prefer, twin or triple, and then your budget. The 8r has better electronics and quick shifters as standard for cheaper.
@@eliteengineerdaz I'm guessing they want to compete with the RS 660 and the R7 etc. but in a triple still in the same class for power to weight ratio. But now Yamaha will announce the R9 probably also being a triple 🤟
as one of those young, female riders that they go on about targeting with these new sport bikes- i think it's actually perfect! 😅 I hope I can lower the bars a touch since I quite enjoyed the r7's ergonomics, but the 660 seems like a perfect middleground engine for fun and practicality, and definitely also sounds better than the cp2 or any twin in my opinion ☺️ i hope I'll be able to take one for a test ride when they arrive in aus, because it looks stunning 😍😍

@@carlmayer691 doesn't seem impossible for them to do that later, surely there's nothing stopping them from making another larger daytona down the line? i love the daytona 675/765, but the reality is that this new version is a lot more sensible for a broader audience; bikes are expensive, and dedicated supersports are an increasingly smaller niche. as for this not bringing women into motorcycling, idk where your opinion on that cancels out mine but as that exact demographic i can 100% say this bike (and the triumph 660s in general) are an extremely attractive entry point into motorcyling hahah
From all the reviews I've read so far this has been well received, congratulations to Triumph on this and the price point too. Given Triumph's expansion into a newer segment, I was chatting to a friend in the industry & asked if they thought Triumph might deliver us a brother for the Tiger 660 with a 1200 engine and maybe with a fairing for touring. He thought not as the Tiger 900/1200 delivered for the touring segment, but these are adventure bikes surely not sports tourers? Surely the sports touring market is larger than sports bikes? Is it not an open goal therefore to develop a 1200 Sprint and challenge the success enjoyed by Ninja z1000sx and Suzuki gsx-s1000? It won't appeal to young riders and older riders are a declining population - yet look at the popularity in Kawasaki & Suzuki tourers!
Lets be fair here, people are seeing 200+bhp bike on the road for what they are. Headline grabbing they may be but so out of place in the real world, call in at any bike meet and count how many are there, its only ever a few, a dying breed for sure. This size and power in a bike will never win any game of Top Trumps but will make a far better road bike for most and nicely fill the gap in Triumph's line up and I'm sure will sell very well.
Lovely bike but once again I feel that the Marketing team in Hinckley have no idea about the history and heritage of Triumph, probably straight out of uni. After their resurgence, I just hope that Triumph doesn't make the mistakes of it's past and lose the plot. Harley started to come off the rails a few years back turning itself into more of a lifestyle and clothing company and making adventure and electric bikes that no body wants.
That looks lovley, and I agree Andy, the red looks the best cant wait for your review of one. That said I might go to my local triumph dealer, staffordshire Triumph (who in my opinion have the best customer service of any bike dealer in the area) and see if they have a demonstartion bike available, the bike comes out.
I feel any “midrange” bike that performs as well as most of them do is a manufacturing and marketing miracle. Well, maybe not a miracle but still, a darn good indicator of how little we need excess.

I said when Trident 660 came out that it would be great to have R version with 95hp. This one is even better in my opinion. Great appearance and performance.
Looks amazing! Could be right up my street, as with many a modern rider. Priced well, below the Tiger 660! I thought it would be above the other Triumph 660s. Been looking at getting back into a sports bike, rather than a super sport.
It’s a very attractive price with very respectable specs for that price. I would imagine that their competitors are a bit worried. Still not sure ultimately how many sales there will be in this segment - so many older used bikes available from the last time midrange sports bikes were popular with same/similar specs for less than half the price - which would be a far better bet for track days too.
I`ve heard this new emerging category described as "soft sports", which really sums it up. If it gets kids in showrooms then all power to Triumphs elbow. The roads now are really to crowded and poorly surfaced to use a real sports bike anymore. Unless hospital food or a night in the cells sounds appealing.
@TheMissendenFlyer Triumph released a 765 Daytona Moto 2 a few years back. Great bike, yet people complained because it cost as much as many 1000cc supersports. In 2024 the price would be even higher
Strictly speaking, if it was a “real “ Daytona it would be a 500cc OHV twin with 41 bhp 😊, and if that’s a natural riding position my back’s a banana. But as a focused sports bike it’s pretty impressive, and interesting they now tune the airbox for sound so the exhaust stays nice and quiet, but I’m there will some nice fruity after market pipes available soon.
Don't think there's an option for cruise - and yes price point wrt competition comes into play - if they put a fairing on a street triple RS you're looking at a £14K bike would be my guess...
Certainly looks a decent sports bike. I personally think just for road use, this mid size is really all you need, and like the fact there's practically just the 'basic' electronic aid's. Price wise, without seeing it in the flesh, is about right, and should certainly be in the mix.
Looks fab and should be another winner from Triumph with the new 400's they really are putting out some good stuff I look forward to seeing this and the two 400's in the flesh and seeing some tests done .👌👍
Assuming sales are successful at this price point that may prompt the introduction of an R and/or RS model with some slight Hp and possibly some other upgrades, like paint schemes, track mode and a nicer TFT, thoughts?
Nice lottle vid. Looks like a really interesting proposition. Good value & a decebt spec sheet so definitely worth a look if you're after a road orientated middleweight sports bike. I'll definitely be checking it out when it hits the showroom. This & the GSX8R.
Nice looking bike. You are right about Triumphs triple engine. The price seems good. Power sounds good. Ergo. looks good. Looks like a winner. I don't know about Triumphs distribution here in the U.S. I bought my only 09 Street Triple and 2015 Bonnie in a town that is about 30 mi. from were I live. They closed and now I would have to drive 100 mi. to Louisville Ky. now. So I by local bikes now. Harley's, and the big 4's Japanese bikes. I just bought a 2023 ZX4RR and fail in love with it. It's going make a great economic sport tourer. I also own 2 Harleys.
Nice looking bike with a good price. Think this should do well. It's nice to see a bike that is aimed at the really world and not the track. Will be interesting to see you thoughts after you have ridden one. Great video keep up the good work Andy
It looks like another winner for Triumph, don't think my old skeleton could adapt to that riding position though, shame. It will be interesting how you find it comfort wise when you have a go. Thank you.
Lots of those riders shown are quite small, perhaps the same ones used to showcase the 400s, making it look more extreme than it is. Very similar rider triangle to the CBR650R, which for me at 5'11", is a perfect do everything position.
@@TheMissendenFlyer should I feel guilty?? .. actually, how long must we watch a video for the creator to get paid? I did google this & came up short. Thank you.
Looks interesting, bit small for me but wifey loves her sports bikes. She has a 765 street triple now and I think this would be top of the list for a replacement. But yet another bike with only one dipped headlight working!! Hate that. All the best and hope the shoulder is recovering well.
The Melody Coming up From The Airbox is no Bad thing IMO The Rider Can Revel in the Induction sound , but without Winding up the Anti Motor Cycle Noise Complainers..🤔
Styling wise it looks fantastic, so why did Triumph only have one headlight working on dipped beam, it looks like the light on the other side has blown, surely more lights on during the day is safer and would look more complete. Hope your shoulder is on the mend.
The industry has to get younger people involved. This bike is addressing that me thinks. I agree with you. If the publicity is true, it's a winner for me. I may even consider something of that ilk myself. I've had lots of thou's but in the real world this is all thats needed for most occasions. Takes me back to my 600 ninja days and the air intake sound. Thanks for the heads up Andy.
I love the looks. Curious how the gearbox is setup can you really use that engine with good RPM drops between gears. Look forward to your ride review !
Triumph are releasing some really nice bikes recently and this is a great version of the Trident and the 660 Sport. I can see the Daytona fans of old will not like this but maybe they were a too narrow market. I do like this bike and the price, not so keen on the fake covering over the tubular frame to make it look like an alloy beam and the wonky single dipped head light, surprised you didn’t mention the light. I am sure it will be a hit, maybe they should have called it a Sprint.
I'm considering a middleweight sports bike in a year or so. The Suzuki GSX-8R doesn't look bad, but nowhere near as good as this and it's gonna have a buzzy parallel twin, not as much power as this bike. The Honda CBR650R looks great as well, but that four cylinder needs to be revved to the moon to get the power and it's somewhat heavy in its class. This feels like the ideal child of the class from looks, price, power, characteristics, and approachability. Really looking forward to seeing them in the U.S.!
Great looking bike! Not much not to like on that little beauty, and looks like the kind of thing which could encourage more folks into the biking community, which can only be a good thing. Nice one, Andy, and nice one, Triumph!
this looks like a great upgrade from my r3. i dont want another twin, 100hp seems about perfect and the relaxed ergos are a welcome addition after riding a friends r6 a few times. i wish there was more non ptwin competition in this segment as this and the zx4 are the only bikes that are on my maybe list. in my country we have a crap version of the cbr650r with only 50hp, would be a perfect road bike otherwise.
Personally prefer the looks of the R7, and am kinda iffy on this being the design of the new Daytona, as the 675 is still my favorite looking bike ever. Proof will be in the pudding when reviewers get a go on them, but I feel like it's in a bit of a tight spot when there's the street triple and the 2000s Daytonas still knocking around for very cheap on the used market. Realistically I'm probably just biased by the fact I used to fantasize about the olde bike when I was in secondry school, and still do, and this isn't that. :)
Eh, I do not like this at all. Less HP & power than the 675 Street Triple R that I am used to (and the long lamented Daytona 675 R at over 120BHP, meaning this 660 is a huge drop in performance). Doesn't look like a proper Daytona. Your comment on it being a "real world Daytona" is something I disagree with. Sports bikes aren't meant to be comfy or "real world". They're meant to be fun, hooligan weapons with screeching exhaust/engine notes that make you question whether sex is all it's cracked up to be (crude but it gets my point across, hah!) Were I in the market, I'd much prefer the returning Honda CBR 600 RR. Undertail exhaust, 120BHP at an insane 14,000RPM and looks that make me feel gooey inside. All that being said, fab video as always Mr TMF! Hope you get a go of one!
@@delusion2987 Call me blinkered but the smooth, constant pulling on my 675R is not something I think this new machine will match. You can bang a 675R all the way up the box, almost pinging the limiter every time, and the thing just pulls and pulls. Add to that the orgasmic induction howl and it feels like you've got an old school V10 F1 car engine. The 675R motor was a work of art. Such a shame they dropped it, likely 'cos of Euro emission compliance standards.
I love that manufacturers are trying to bring sportbikes back (so to speak), making them friendlier, affordable and more practical. This sort of bike, however, is not what I personally look for in a sportbike. Give me a ZX-6R or a CBR600R any day of the week...
Well they claim the market has changed in favour of this more "dumbed down" type of sports bike - the old Daytona didn't end up selling much (hence it's withdrawl) - we'll see what sales are like!
Still 5-6kg more than the original Honda Fireblade(dry)...more features, but technology has regressed over the last 30yrs...that should be around 160-170kg,being a triple compared to a four!
Triumph said the maintenance costs on my Tiger 660 were lowest in the class, yet it’s way more expensive than my Z900! I think it will sell well though, but as I have the Tiger 660, I won’t be getting one of these.
Lovely looking bike. The only part of the blurb I don't agree triumph should push is the 10k mile service intervals. My trident 660 came up to a year before 10k mileage. It had covered 8750miles. They then expected me back when the bike reached 10k for another service. Was my only gripe with bike however and if this Daytona puts a smile on your face like the Trident did mine then my question is does it matter if its a "true" daytona. If it puts a grin on your face it's all that matter 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
That doesn't sound quite right....think your dealer pulled a fast one there. In my case I never do the mileage on my bikes the service intervals state so I just do yearly services (or every two years if the bike has done less than 400 miles)....which sadly some do!
I totally agree with you guys. After a few emails back n forth they backed down. My argument was the service book doesn't have a place for both mileage and age. In their defence the triumph service schedule on their system shows the 10k has air filter change and the mileage based service doesn't. Either way I was able to avoid two service costs in one year. 😉. Thanks for the reply guys.
Mid range sportsbikes died in the UK years ago. I remember people complaining about Suzuki dropping the GSXR600, I think they sold about 13 bikes in the UK the previous year! The same for the ZXR6. They are probably better bikes for the road than the 1000cc sportsbikes, (personally I find small 4cyl bikes pretty gutless with all the power in the wrong place for the road) but in the UK macho bragging rights still rule, so big bike outsell smaller bikes.
As for the design of it, to me its a bit safe looking, like the other bikes in this new style. Its just, kind of nice really, nothing to stop me and want to look closer. Its no Monjuic or Darmah that`s for sure. The best of road bikes is behind us now, so this looks like the future. Not sure if I like NICE bikes...
Aprilia RSS660, other than the 43 pound (18 Kg) handicap. Would certainly be on the very short list. As long as it handles well- I'm sure it does- it would shake off the Trident start point!
Looks good. . Half wondering why they didn't use the 765 RS engine. . .price point I guess. Unless that will be a later option?. . .I.e. a Daytona RS. . 😮
Let’s wait and see if the sound is as good as a Rob North Triple from the 70’s. The ones I rode on track were magnificent. Be it they were replicas and this was in the 80’s.
Yes I imagine these are going to sound pretty good - all the Triumph triples do and if they have paid attention to the airbox as they seemed to say they have then it should be a nice wail.....
Looks like a standout machine in the category, I own a Tuono 660 Factory edition and it’s been brilliant, but the price premium over this Daytona is considerable. The Daytona at this price point gives hope to an eventual Tiger Sport 660 receiving comparable power plant attention and electronics including the addition of cruise control; that done, and I’m sold.. I’m just not interested in Triumph’s “adventure” format 800/900 Tiger machines. Though on most fronts they meet the criteria for a lighter sport touring application, the “GS” patterned “look” and 19” front wheels are a bore, and the ridiculous amount of space given up to the exhaust can in lieu of a full sized pannier on both sides of the machine really cuts into travel worthy functionality. Get your finger out of it Triumph.
strange Triumph being a premium manufacturer benchmarks with non-premium japanese bikes. I'd say Ducati Supersport is the one at least I'll be comparing it against, same power interval too. Triumph will have price advantage, be less desireble. But honestly comparing to R7 is just aiming too low, I think.
@@TheMissendenFlyeragree, price is different, but then there's always a difference. For me as a buyer of a faired road bike (aka sportish) hp interval matters when deciding. So here we have CBR650R, daytona and supersport each having their price.

Cool! Thanks for stopping by!
Honda called and asked for their CBR650R diagram back 😂😂😂
Thanks for posting. Looking forward to seeing it. Still think the Aprilia is the best looking bike. Looks are not the only factor though.
Agreed!
Nice looking bike with a good price. Think this should do well.
It's nice to see a bike that is aimed at the really world and not the track.
Will be interesting to see you thoughts after you have ridden one.
Great video keep up the good work Andy
Thank you - willco!
nice looking bike! look forward to seeing it in the flesh.....hopefully at the MCN bike show next month
Looks great! Will definitely sell in strong numbers! 👌
Yes I think it will.....
Nice looking bike with decent power, triumph doing well with smaller cc bikes , hoping for a baby tiger 660 ADV next?
We shall see
Just test the first one that comes into the UK against a 2006 original!
It looks like another winner for Triumph, don't think my old skeleton could adapt to that riding position though, shame. It will be interesting how you find it comfort wise when you have a go. Thank you.
They claim it's not an extreme position....I'll endeavour to find out!
Lots of those riders shown are quite small, perhaps the same ones used to showcase the 400s, making it look more extreme than it is. Very similar rider triangle to the CBR650R, which for me at 5'11", is a perfect do everything position.
Can’t believe they didn’t use the Trident Sprint name, but I do think this’ll be a hot seller.
Yes I think it'll be a corker - looking forward to having a go....
I think this is a winner in the segment but I would like to have seen a 765cc triple version. Maybe a proper Daytona RS version to come? 🤞
5:51 is this a new outro or am I guilty of not watching until the end??
I think you've been rumbled - it's been there for about the last 20 videos!
@@TheMissendenFlyer should I feel guilty?? .. actually, how long must we watch a video for the creator to get paid? I did google this & came up short. Thank you.
@@ShipReK66 I think as long as you watch for at least 5 seconds it counts!
Looks like a Trident in new clothes !!! Wonder if it will have the same Vibes as the Trident ?? Aprilia wins on looks Andy .
Looks interesting, bit small for me but wifey loves her sports bikes. She has a 765 street triple now and I think this would be top of the list for a replacement.
But yet another bike with only one dipped headlight working!! Hate that.
All the best and hope the shoulder is recovering well.
Thanks Stu - I’m with you on the headlight! Sadly the shoulder isn’t going well, I’ll spare you the details!
Oh dear, the cold weather probably doesn’t help. Maybe a little trip to Gran Canaria would help, just for medical reasons of course.
@@stuartbooker445 Funnily enough we had a trip booked to GC but had to cancel it due the shoulder....
The Melody Coming up From
The Airbox is no Bad thing IMO
The Rider Can Revel in the
Induction sound , but without
Winding up the Anti Motor Cycle
Noise Complainers..🤔
Styling wise it looks fantastic, so why did Triumph only have one headlight working on dipped beam, it looks like the light on the other side has blown, surely more lights on during the day is safer and would look more complete. Hope your shoulder is on the mend.
I agree - and sadly not, there's some complications I won't bore you with.....
Nice looking bike. Looking forward to seeing you revewing it 👍
The industry has to get younger people involved.
My pleasure as always!
I love the looks. Curious how the gearbox is setup can you really use that engine with good RPM drops between gears. Look forward to your ride review !
....me too!
Totally agree
Great looking bike! Not much not to like on that little beauty, and looks like the kind of thing which could encourage more folks into the biking community, which can only be a good thing. Nice one, Andy, and nice one, Triumph!
If I was a a decade or two younger, I would probably be interested in a red one.
this looks like a great upgrade from my r3. i dont want another twin, 100hp seems about perfect and the relaxed ergos are a welcome addition after riding a friends r6 a few times. i wish there was more non ptwin competition in this segment as this and the zx4 are the only bikes that are on my maybe list. in my country we have a crap version of the cbr650r with only 50hp, would be a perfect road bike otherwise.
Yes I agree - I' also eagerley awaiting the new Yamaha R9 but suspect that will be nore expensive than the Daytona.
Beautiful bike. Looks like a winner to me.
I love it! Beautiful. Now I want a 1000cc in the same form factor.
Matbe the 1200 from the Speed Triple??
They're meant to be fun, hooligan weapons with screeching exhaust/engine notes that make you question whether sex is all it's cracked up to be (crude but it gets my point across, hah!)
Were I in the market, I'd much prefer the returning Honda CBR 600 RR.
200kg is pretty heavy actually. My 2007 SV650 was the same, but this here is a lot more modern and meant for racing...
I love that manufacturers are trying to bring sportbikes back (so to speak), making them friendlier, affordable and more practical.
This sort of bike, however, is not what I personally look for in a sportbike. Give me a ZX-6R or a CBR600R any day of the week...
I think they made a mistake not going with the 765 engine
Crikey really?
Low cost of ownership? I had an annual service on my Trident last year which was basically an oil change…£295!! I’ll be getting the new MT-09SP.
What is written on the page of text that appears for about an eighth of a second at the beginning of your videos?
The smallprint - aimed at trolls mainly.....
It's an annual OR 10,000 mile service. Which ever comes first.
Looks nice! Now if money was no object, I could see one in the stable! 🤣
Looking forward to your review, does have the looks.
Is it just me or does that fairing look a little like an early VFR800?
Probably a good direction and pre-qualifier, but big K has hybrid. Norton maybe should be BEV or rotary HEV.
I'll hold onto my Speed Four then should be coming back into fashion soon 🤔
Unless that will be a later option?. . .I.e. a Daytona RS. . 😮
660 allows them to sell it in markets were licensing law restrict learner riders.
It looks great from some angle but overall I’m not certain it’s a looker. They’ve gone too safe with this design I think.
I'm not a great lover of sport bikes, but I must say that is one I'm definitely going to have a look at 👌👍
Yes I think this one might hit the mark for normal road riders....
Sweet bike, I think this will be another winner for triumph!
For the money, a great bike and still worthy of the name. Should do well compared to it's middle weight competition.
I think so....
👏 well done Triumph. Must try this. Lovely looking bike
This will likely be tested on IOM supersport class this/next year.
It sures looks the part. Love the design!
Yea, looks and sounds great, probably too small for my 6'4" frame. Still hoping they bring back a Tiger Sport, a big brother to the 660 Tiger Sport.🤨🙏
I’m not into sports bikes but I do like the look of it.
Not my kind of bike however the 660 looks good (especially in red) and appears well equipped so I'm sure it will be a winner for Triumph.
I prefer the look of the Aprilia but the triple is a very nice engine
I think they are comparing by proce point - the Ducati is in another price bracket altogether
@@TheMissendenFlyeragree, price is different, but then there's always a difference. For me as a buyer of a faired road bike (aka sportish) hp interval matters when deciding. So here we have CBR650R, daytona and supersport each having their price.
As a Daytona owner I would rather have seen a 765 version full on super sport but it is a good looking VERY affordable bike.
Yes I think it'll do well....
A great looking bike, but perhaps more fitting to the Trident Sprint rather than Daytona name. I'm sure it will sell well though.
I really like this bike I think it will sell well, will a review video coming
Yes as soon as they’re made available I hope!
The "REAL" Daytona is March 1st - 10th 2024 in Daytona beach Florida USA. You should go.
I’d love too!
If what they say is true it should be a great bike , I look forward to your review
