Triumph Daytona Returns! - But is it a REAL Daytona??
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- Triumph have answered our prayers and are bringing us a brand new Triumph Daytona!!! But hang on though, this is based on the dumbed down 660 triple platform not the raucous 765 from the Street Triple? Is this the REAL thing??? Stay tuned to find out!

Lovely bike but once again I feel that the Marketing team in Hinckley have no idea about the history and heritage of Triumph, probably straight out of uni. After their resurgence, I just hope that Triumph doesn't make the mistakes of it's past and lose the plot. Harley started to come off the rails a few years back turning itself into more of a lifestyle and clothing company and making adventure and electric bikes that no body wants.
Seems like we are going back to the days of the late 90s 600 sports bikes with just shy of 100bhp comfort and handling. Perfect bikes in the day. This has the potential to be excellent.
I agree...
I thought the same. The FZR600 sprang to mind immediately for me.
94-2004 Cbr600F ❤ and original 2000 Daytona 😊
Yes if it weren’t for the awful euro emissions we have now.
Those sub 100hp 600cc sports bikes were great road bikes and I don't remember people complaining they were too slow back then.
They should have put the 765 engine in it 🤦
Why? They have the Daytona 765 already.
@@ScooterGrubb Oh yeah, I thought that one came out ages ago but it was only back in 2020. So what's the point of this then? 🤷🏻♂️
@@eliteengineerdaz I'm guessing they want to compete with the RS 660 and the R7 etc. but in a triple still in the same class for power to weight ratio. But now Yamaha will announce the R9 probably also being a triple 🤟
Triumph are focusing on giving new riders options right now. Hence the 660 platform & the new 400s. I know everyone wanted a 765RS Daytona with Brembos & Öhlins. But the simple matter is, that would've pushed the price above what young riders can afford.
The Daytona name should’ve been reserved for the Street Triple RS with a fairing. That would truly do it justice and would be like a road going moto2 bike.
This one looks like a nice bike for the price but should’ve been called something new IMO
How odd that they went off piste
I guess Triumph could do what they do with the Speed Twin . Now they have the 1200 released in 2019 , and the street twin is now a Speed Twin 900.
i.e. they could release a Daytona 765 , call this one the Daytona 660.
The Speed Triple RR, with fairing and drop handle bars could be called a Daytona 1200 !
Mind you this could end up a bit like Kawasaki calling lots of their bikes a ninja !!!!
I am sort of with you, the Daytona name should have been reserved to a top spec middle weight sports bike.
It's all about marketing. They obviously made the decision this was the best name to market the bike
Looks great. Would love to see something similar with the 765 engine (maybe with clip ons).
Not entirely into sports bikes but that looks stunning! I think Triumph are onto a winner there.
Sure it is a much right to tne name as a Daytona as the 675 does. Do anybody remembers there was a 1972 500cc Daytona, then a 1996 Daytona 1200c then a 1997 T595 Daytona 955ccs. The 675 wasn't the first., 2nd or even 3rd Daytona so the fifth Daytona has a much right to the name as the 675 does.
The 675 was a track oriented sport bike Daytona, this is road oriented sport bike Daytona.
Agreed!
Eh, I do not like this at all. Less HP & power than the 675 Street Triple R that I am used to (and the long lamented Daytona 675 R at over 120BHP, meaning this 660 is a huge drop in performance). Doesn't look like a proper Daytona. Your comment on it being a "real world Daytona" is something I disagree with. Sports bikes aren't meant to be comfy or "real world". They're meant to be fun, hooligan weapons with screeching exhaust/engine notes that make you question whether sex is all it's cracked up to be (crude but it gets my point across, hah!)
Were I in the market, I'd much prefer the returning Honda CBR 600 RR. Undertail exhaust, 120BHP at an insane 14,000RPM and looks that make me feel gooey inside.
All that being said, fab video as always Mr TMF! Hope you get a go of one!
@@delusion2987 Call me blinkered but the smooth, constant pulling on my 675R is not something I think this new machine will match. You can bang a 675R all the way up the box, almost pinging the limiter every time, and the thing just pulls and pulls. Add to that the orgasmic induction howl and it feels like you've got an old school V10 F1 car engine.
The 675R motor was a work of art. Such a shame they dropped it, likely 'cos of Euro emission compliance standards.
Strictly speaking, if it was a “real “ Daytona it would be a 500cc OHV twin with 41 bhp 😊, and if that’s a natural riding position my back’s a banana. But as a focused sports bike it’s pretty impressive, and interesting they now tune the airbox for sound so the exhaust stays nice and quiet, but I’m there will some nice fruity after market pipes available soon.
Still 5-6kg more than the original Honda Fireblade(dry)...more features, but technology has regressed over the last 30yrs...that should be around 160-170kg,being a triple compared to a four!
Honda called and asked for their CBR650R diagram back 😂😂😂
Typical Triumph Australia - only giving us this in the 57hp version. So pathetic. Really disappointed
It is a gimmick and at 660cc I'd call a beginners bike. The name Daytona means nothing but marketing like Rolex Daytona. No one uses the chronometer function on a traditional watch. But, wait Paul Newman used it. Yeah 50 years ago. At least, the price is right.
Will Welsh riders be offered the 'Triumph Dyfed'? (Tenor/baritone dual horns & 19mph trials gearing : )
I love my Daytona 675R but that thing is ugly do the newer generation really think that looks good?!
It looks built down to a price cheap!
It’s unfortunate they didn’t reserve the Daytona name for a 765R what we really want.
Looks like a Trident in new clothes !!! Wonder if it will have the same Vibes as the Trident ?? Aprilia wins on looks Andy .
God, why can't both of the headlights be on at the same time with low beam? It makes the bike look so much better at the front.
I agree!
Lets be fair here, people are seeing 200+bhp bike on the road for what they are. Headline grabbing they may be but so out of place in the real world, call in at any bike meet and count how many are there, its only ever a few, a dying breed for sure. This size and power in a bike will never win any game of Top Trumps but will make a far better road bike for most and nicely fill the gap in Triumph's line up and I'm sure will sell very well.
Shouldnt be called a Daytona it should of been called a Trident Sport. Its a disgrace to the Daytona name
As an R7 owner I am extremely excited for this. Maybe a fun purchase if no big niggles towards the end of this year.
Brilliant channel.
I think Triumph have a winner.
This is like a modern day CBR600F for Triumph.
Yet another bike pandering to the A2 licence. How many power compromised A2 bikes can the market sustain?
We've regressed 20 years. A Cbr600F4i, from 2001, had more power, was more practical and weighed less. Where's the modern day equivalent for full licence holders? 120-130bhp, practical, faired, middleweight sports bike? They only had to put a fairing on the Street Triple 765RS to make a true Daytona.
F4i 109 Bhp / 56 Nm / 193kgs
Daytona 94 Bhp / 69Nm / 201Kgs
I'm not sure where you're getting "gutless & less practical" The F4i was the stunt bike of choice, the benchmark in practicality and comfort for over 2 decades and won the world super bike title in 2002 before being replaced with the RR. Low down torque has its place, but not at the expense of revs, top speed & bhp in a sports bike. This isn't 20 years of progress, it's regression / pandering to an already bloated A2 licence category. @@delusion2987
Nice looking bike at a reasonable price, but disappointed its not the 765 with a better spec. Cheers Andy
Think I’ll be testing one of these. I’ve fancied one of these sporty numbers for a while and this has thrown me a curve ball 😂
The "REAL" Daytona is March 1st - 10th 2024 in Daytona beach Florida USA. You should go.
I’d love too!
Such a boring bike that looks outdated at its launch. A big failure that wont sell particularly well IMHO
I like it - but time will tell of course....
Have a red 2009 Daytona 675 with Öhlins suspension. This means I have no interest in the new Daytona name sake.
Fair dos!
If you went by the content of the adverts you'd think that men aren't allowed to ride bikes or drive cars anymore. It's getting just a tiny bit boring now.
Hehe - I know what you mean!
Would love to see a comparison video between this and the GSX 8R. Both bikes look good and have a more relaxed riding position which appeals to me. So many new bikes this year!
This is the Triumph's response to Suzuki's GSX-8R.
Yes we are spolied for choice!
The triumph will dog walk the Suzuki in every department 😂
It will come down to which engine you prefer, twin or triple, and then your budget. The 8r has better electronics and quick shifters as standard for cheaper.
Just test the first one that comes into the UK against a 2006 original!
If they had new 765 engine they would probably double their sales? very odd, maybe price point? Does it have cruise control as an option?
Don't think there's an option for cruise - and yes price point wrt competition comes into play - if they put a fairing on a street triple RS you're looking at a £14K bike would be my guess...
Sounds brilliant don’t think we need a bigger engine that the 660 triple
I`ve heard this new emerging category described as "soft sports", which really sums it up. If it gets kids in showrooms then all power to Triumphs elbow. The roads now are really to crowded and poorly surfaced to use a real sports bike anymore. Unless hospital food or a night in the cells sounds appealing.
I agree!
as one of those young, female riders that they go on about targeting with these new sport bikes- i think it's actually perfect! 😅 I hope I can lower the bars a touch since I quite enjoyed the r7's ergonomics, but the 660 seems like a perfect middleground engine for fun and practicality, and definitely also sounds better than the cp2 or any twin in my opinion ☺️ i hope I'll be able to take one for a test ride when they arrive in aus, because it looks stunning 😍😍
Delighted to hear that!
This isn't going to attract a newbie girl rider getting into the sport.. I'm all for that, but to destroy the inconic DAYTONA badge assocaited w/ high performance competive world championship winning sportbikes is a sin.. If TRIUMPH is going to do this, why not use the their capital to build a large bore 1255cc Daytona .. using the bones of th Speed Trip 1200, new nose, fairngs . offer a ton of accessories .. how hard could it be. The diff bewteen the Daytona 955 fairied and Speed Triple 1050 are simple brackets to attach fairings.. Triumph builds enough beginner bikes.. they should have offered a fairinbg kit for the Trident and called it a day....poor investment..
@@carlmayer691 doesn't seem impossible for them to do that later, surely there's nothing stopping them from making another larger daytona down the line? i love the daytona 675/765, but the reality is that this new version is a lot more sensible for a broader audience; bikes are expensive, and dedicated supersports are an increasingly smaller niche. as for this not bringing women into motorcycling, idk where your opinion on that cancels out mine but as that exact demographic i can 100% say this bike (and the triumph 660s in general) are an extremely attractive entry point into motorcyling hahah
It looks great from some angle but overall I’m not certain it’s a looker. They’ve gone too safe with this design I think.
My 1995 Daytona Super 3 says she is embarrassed to call this a Daytona, should have been a trident sport
Yes that would have made more sense and left the door open for a 765 Daytona in future - I agree
@TheMissendenFlyer Triumph released a 765 Daytona Moto 2 a few years back. Great bike, yet people complained because it cost as much as many 1000cc supersports. In 2024 the price would be even higher
Should have called it the trident supersport. It's not worthy of the daytona name with that spec, in my opinion. It already looks outdated, and it's not even out 😂
Not for you then I'm guessing....
@TheMissendenFlyer Not personally. Much prefer the Daytona 675R which is around 7k used.
@@delusion2987 And the new daytona is just a trident with lower bars and a fairing 😅.. it's painfully slow. I don't own the 675R, but given the choice, I'd choose the older one, which is a true DAYTONA and not a slow outdated looking trident in a supersport dress.
@@delusion2987 If you're rode riding. I'd choose the 765R over both of them. Triumoh also has questionable reliability.
@delusion2987 Let's be fair. No one rides sports bikes on the road anymore. The market has been dying for years. They won't sell many.
Tbh, it all comes down to preference. Whilst indont like sports bikes, I think the new daytona looks outdated already.
The new Suzuki 8R looks like the better bike and, let's face, will be more reliable and cheaper to service. Which is key for a newer rider, which this bike is aimed at. Older bikes used bikes are still and always will be the better option.
I just picked up a Bmw R1200R 2017, 6k miles. 2 year bmw warranty and breakdown for 7k. Has cruise, quickshifter, ESA, heated grips, luggage, and an Akro can.
It's a better bike than any new 100-hp bike. The problem is these days, new buyers only look at the monthly payments. A brand new bike for £100!! Wow. Then you're tied down for 3 years minimum. No thanks.
I have the R1200R as my touring bike/bad weather commuter.
Beautiful bike. Looks like a winner to me.
Personally prefer the looks of the R7, and am kinda iffy on this being the design of the new Daytona, as the 675 is still my favorite looking bike ever.
Proof will be in the pudding when reviewers get a go on them, but I feel like it's in a bit of a tight spot when there's the street triple and the 2000s Daytonas still knocking around for very cheap on the used market.
Realistically I'm probably just biased by the fact I used to fantasize about the olde bike when I was in secondry school, and still do, and this isn't that. :)
Looks fab and should be another winner from Triumph with the new 400's they really are putting out some good stuff I look forward to seeing this and the two 400's in the flesh and seeing some tests done .👌👍
Me too!
The Melody Coming up From
The Airbox is no Bad thing IMO
The Rider Can Revel in the
Induction sound , but without
Winding up the Anti Motor Cycle
Noise Complainers..🤔
A great looking bike, but perhaps more fitting to the Trident Sprint rather than Daytona name. I'm sure it will sell well though.
Wow! That's a great looking bike! I rode the 660 when it first came out, and liked it, but was swayed by the 660 Aprillia that came out back then to. Value looks to be very good, and I love that engine. A friend has a 765 with an Arata titanium aftermarket exhaust that sounds scintillating at 10,000rpm. This new Daytona, with a pipe like that could be awesome... I can't wait for them to arrive in Canada.
The Daytona 660 will punish Yamaha and Aprilia by providing more comfort than the R7 and better reliability than the Aprilia RS660 - and all at a lower price.
Triumph is on a winning run that's for sure.
Low cost of ownership? I had an annual service on my Trident last year which was basically an oil change…£295!! I’ll be getting the new MT-09SP.
I feel any “midrange” bike that performs as well as most of them do is a manufacturing and marketing miracle. Well, maybe not a miracle but still, a darn good indicator of how little we need excess.
No, young man, it most certainly isnt.
200kg is pretty heavy actually. My 2007 SV650 was the same, but this here is a lot more modern and meant for racing...
They should have named it Triumph Sprint ..
And Lunched another real Daytona 660 supersport
Looks great, love a 120 degree triple crank. The best of both worlds. Rode them since the XS750C Yamaha of 1976. Also the Laverda Jota with the revised crank. The old was one up two down, a paint mixer.
Very odd, surely a Triumph Daytona Street Triple 765 would've made more sense? The Street Triple 765 would look fantastic with a factory fitted fairing for the road, and it would save people money if they occasionally wanted to take it to a racetrack.
I'm disapointed with the looks/design. I was expecting something better from Triumph.
Looks good but not a Daytona. I had a Daytona fantastic bike 125 bhp which was about right I wouldn’t buy the new one think I would be disappointed with the performance should be called a Bandit!
I would like to see one in the Triumph racing yellow and higher quality suspension. Maybe a Daytona R? For 10 ish grand? 😊
Find it mad that nowadays that brands are fighting for the sub 100bhp supersportesque bikes manufactures just keep releasing extra mild versions of previous models should be called something else
Rs660 still the best looking of the bunch more sharper. looks of this more neutral and cbr650ish
Honda fanboy here I would go for the cbr650r just my opinion new 2024 HRC
I said when Trident 660 came out that it would be great to have R version with 95hp. This one is even better in my opinion. Great appearance and performance.
Machines are getting better faster, roads not so much, traffic definetly not, speed limits? When have you ever see speed limits updated? Its getting easier to get tickets now, sounds like a trap
Is it just me or does that fairing look a little like an early VFR800?
It’s a very attractive price with very respectable specs for that price. I would imagine that their competitors are a bit worried. Still not sure ultimately how many sales there will be in this segment - so many older used bikes available from the last time midrange sports bikes were popular with same/similar specs for less than half the price - which would be a far better bet for track days too.
Not much more power over the naked one, giving that the fairings have added 12kg.
I think they made a mistake not going with the 765 engine
Well they claim the market has changed in favour of this more "dumbed down" type of sports bike - the old Daytona didn't end up selling much (hence it's withdrawl) - we'll see what sales are like!
Was hoping for a sub 190kg weight
5:51 is this a new outro or am I guilty of not watching until the end??
I think you've been rumbled - it's been there for about the last 20 videos!
@@TheMissendenFlyer should I feel guilty?? .. actually, how long must we watch a video for the creator to get paid? I did google this & came up short. Thank you.
@@ShipReK66 I think as long as you watch for at least 5 seconds it counts!
Not my kind of bike, but it does look and sound good form what you say, and well priced
Certainly looks a decent sports bike. I personally think just for road use, this mid size is really all you need, and like the fact there's practically just the 'basic' electronic aid's. Price wise, without seeing it in the flesh, is about right, and should certainly be in the mix.
I agree all round!
Looking forward to your review, does have the looks.
Looks amazing! Could be right up my street, as with many a modern rider. Priced well, below the Tiger 660! I thought it would be above the other Triumph 660s. Been looking at getting back into a sports bike, rather than a super sport.
Looks like they might be onto a winner I reckon....
FAIL!!!!👎
Not a fan then?
Thanks for posting. Looking forward to seeing it. Still think the Aprilia is the best looking bike. Looks are not the only factor though.
Agreed!
I prefer the look of the Aprilia but the triple is a very nice engine
If I was a a decade or two younger, I would probably be interested in a red one.
It's more sports tourer than sports bike.
It looks like another winner for Triumph, don't think my old skeleton could adapt to that riding position though, shame. It will be interesting how you find it comfort wise when you have a go. Thank you.
They claim it's not an extreme position....I'll endeavour to find out!
Lots of those riders shown are quite small, perhaps the same ones used to showcase the 400s, making it look more extreme than it is. Very similar rider triangle to the CBR650R, which for me at 5'11", is a perfect do everything position.
This is quite a nice bike, if you ignore the name and take the "What's in a name?" Shakespeare philosophy.
BUT - it isn't a Daytona, or what a Daytona should be. Triumph could, and should, have named this a Trident 660 RS, or Sprint 660.
Now get this, a contemporary (2024 model year) Street Triple, even the base 765R , out-accelerates, out-brakes and out-handles its contemporary (2024) Daytona brother. When was the last time a Street Triple was the quicker, faster, sportier model than a Daytona of the same model year? Also, it is so hard to make a top spec sportbike with comfortable sport-tourer ergonomics, rather than give us cut down versions that lack the best tech (engine components, fully adjustable suspension and top spec brakes)?
Agreed - but this is addressing a slightly different market as I said....
I think the Aprilia is still the best looking in that class. Not sure about naming it Daytona though. Triumph have not got the names right lately. tiger sport 850 and tiger sport 660 have no relations to each other for example. rant over
Yes does seem a bit disjointed on the naming front doesn't it....
I've always said, you don't need Massive Horsepower to have Fun on a Bike, a Magazine i was Reading, (Don't know which one) Wrote, that Unless you are Touring, Any Horsepower over a 100 BHP is Wasted Horsepower for Most Riders.
I agree on that....
Nice looking bike with decent power, triumph doing well with smaller cc bikes , hoping for a baby tiger 660 ADV next?
We shall see
Looks great! Will definitely sell in strong numbers! 👌
Yes I think it will.....
Triumph said the maintenance costs on my Tiger 660 were lowest in the class, yet it’s way more expensive than my Z900! I think it will sell well though, but as I have the Tiger 660, I won’t be getting one of these.
Crikey really?
…they’ll sell like hot cakes.
As a Daytona owner I would rather have seen a 765 version full on super sport but it is a good looking VERY affordable bike.
Yes I think it'll do well....
Why are colour choices on most new bikes so dull? Blacks, greys, white…. It is great that we are finally getting mid size bikes again as useful road bikes.
Agreed all round!
this looks like a great upgrade from my r3. i dont want another twin, 100hp seems about perfect and the relaxed ergos are a welcome addition after riding a friends r6 a few times. i wish there was more non ptwin competition in this segment as this and the zx4 are the only bikes that are on my maybe list. in my country we have a crap version of the cbr650r with only 50hp, would be a perfect road bike otherwise.
Yes I agree - I' also eagerley awaiting the new Yamaha R9 but suspect that will be nore expensive than the Daytona.
Brilliant looking for sure
Can’t believe they didn’t use the Trident Sprint name, but I do think this’ll be a hot seller.
Yes I think it'll be a corker - looking forward to having a go....
strange Triumph being a premium manufacturer benchmarks with non-premium japanese bikes. I'd say Ducati Supersport is the one at least I'll be comparing it against, same power interval too. Triumph will have price advantage, be less desireble. But honestly comparing to R7 is just aiming too low, I think.
I think they are comparing by proce point - the Ducati is in another price bracket altogether
@@TheMissendenFlyeragree, price is different, but then there's always a difference. For me as a buyer of a faired road bike (aka sportish) hp interval matters when deciding. So here we have CBR650R, daytona and supersport each having their price.
Sorry mate but that poxy exorst pipe can’t triumph make an exorst pipe that looks like one Kawazaki have with the 900
No need to aplogise to me!
I don't like the artificial plastic panels which are there to give an impression of a aluminium delta box type frame. The steel frame of the trident hides behind this. They should have been more imaginative and used the original trident frame as a feature. Not hide it with plastic panels. If they did that then it would have lighten the bike by a kg at least. Most probably made it cheaper. The Trident feul tank I think would have been a better shape than the street tripple tank. I like the radial mounted disk brakes at the front though. As for me I will keep to the Trident
Fair enough!
Not the game changer Triumph promised but they will sell loads at this price and im sure it will make a fantastic road bike that you can actually use every day. Would like to try one.
Yes me too....
Assuming sales are successful at this price point that may prompt the introduction of an R and/or RS model with some slight Hp and possibly some other upgrades, like paint schemes, track mode and a nicer TFT, thoughts?
Shame it’s not based on the street but probably sensible marketing placement. Look forward to your review
Probably a good direction and pre-qualifier, but big K has hybrid. Norton maybe should be BEV or rotary HEV.
I can't work out why Triumph only made a limited run of the Daytona 765. Also why they never made Daytona with the 1050 or the newer 1160cc Speed Triple. Kind of seems Triumph have wimped out of challenging in the Superbike category. Which is a shame after the 675 beat all the big Jap4 in the 600cc category
for me what will let it down is Triumph and their ridiculous servicing costs
They reckon this one has "low workshop time" implying it'll be cheap to service....
The sound is werry important..and the tripple had a great sound
I’ve not heard a duff sounding Triumph triple yet!
What is written on the page of text that appears for about an eighth of a second at the beginning of your videos?
