- Is Kang the Secret Villain in Across the Spider-Verse? In the latest trailer, Spider-Man 2099 confirmed that the MCU's Spider-Man and Doctor Strange exist within the same multiverse. So with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the middle of a Multiverse Saga, wouldn't;lt that make Spider-Verse part of the story? And if s, is the big bad of this trilogy going to be a variant of Kang the Conqueror?

#Kang #SpiderVerse #SpiderMan
My friends, we are living in the Multiverse Saga. Not just the Multiverse Saga of the MCU, but of movies in general. We saw a multiverse movie win best picture. DC’s upcoming Flash film is confirmed to have some WILD multiversal shenanigans. And, Sony’s animated Spider-Man films have been multiverse centric since before even the MCU.
So in this video we’re going to talk about the Sony Spider-Verse and how it's connected to the MCU’s multiverse. And how Kang might appear in the final moments of Across the Spider-Verse. And he be the main villain of the trilogy’s final film, Beyond the Spider-Verse. [clip]
So let’s start with the Spider-Verse animated films. Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse was a multiverse centric story that gave us our first introduction to Miles Morales on the big screen, as well as many other versions of Spider-Man-or as the MCU would call them, variants. [clip, something from Loki explaining variants]
Now the difference between a multiverse and a Spider-Verse is that the Spider-Verse is Spider-Person centric. The overall Marvel Multiverse would include every single Marvel Universe in existence, even universes without a Spider-Man. [clip, America Chavez “Spider who?]
The Spider-Verse however would solely include universes with a Spider-Man, or a Spider-Woman, or even a Spider-Pig. [clip, Simpsons]
In the comics, the Spider-Verse is connected by what’s called The Web of Life and Destiny. This is a three dimensional configuration of the entire Spider-Verse that allows you to travel between different universes. Similar to how the Sacred Timeline from Loki and Quantumania is a three dimensional representation of the MCU’s multiverse.
Now just like the Sacred Timeline has the TVA and the Citadel at the End of Time, the Web of Life and Destiny has a lobby of sorts as well, a center point if you will. Very similar to what we’ve seen in the Across the Spider-Verse trailers.
Every Spider-Person is connected to this multiversal web; and it’s actually been theorized that this connection to the Web of Life and Destiny is what gives each Spider-Person their spider sense. [clip, banana, Peter tingle]
So in the trailers for Across the Spider-Verse we see these hexagonal shaped portal-tunnels that the Spider-People use to travel the multiverse. Remember, Kingpin's machine from the last movie that allowed for multiversal travel was destroyed, and the Spider-People thought they’d never see eachother again. [clip]
But with access to the Web of Life and Destiny, the Spider-People can now navigate the Spider-Verse via a wristband [b-roll, point to Gwen’s band]. Very similar to the time travel bands we saw the Avengers use in Endgame. [b-roll, Tony holding up wristband to Cap]
Now speaking of the MCU, we’ve heard Sony’s animated Spider-Man films reference the MCU. In the trailers for Across the Spider-Verse we hear Miguel Ohara’s Spider-Man 2099 say this. [clip, little nerd]
This is of course in reference to the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. When the MCU’s Peter Parker along with Doctor Strange accidentally brought Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men, plus their villains, into the MCU. [clip, Andrew “hi” Nona screaming]
And come the end of that film when the multiverse is cracking-we see a lot of Spider-Verse characters like Kraven the Hunter, Rhino, Scorpion, and Black Cat coming into the MCU via Doctor Strange’s botched spell. They’re all being brought in because they know Peter Parker is Spider-Man.
So with Spider-Man 2099 referencing the events of an MCU film, that all but confirms that the multiverse of the animated Spider-Man films and the multiverse of the Marvel Studios MCU films and Multiverse Saga are the SAME cinematic multiverse. - Фільми й анімація
“Caterogize” was kicking Ryan’s ass in this one
the "thanks Colton, shut up" did it for me lmfao
So early that they haven't noticed the error in their title yet
ScreenShot
Wonder what The error was?
@Dana White's Cocaine Dealer The
and they'll never correct the description
😂😂 ong knowin spot was the reason well him and miles being a anomaly
Ryan keeps saying "catoregize" instead of "categorize" inverting the "r" and the "g" syllable.

,
Having trouble there hehehe😅
Maybe try:
cat•tigger•rise or cat•tigger•eyes
🐱🐯💹 or 🐱🐯👀
Just put the bouncy Winnie the Pooh character in the middle of it. Then lift it up
and
cat•a•gory
If Doug doesn't like cats he can imagine cutting and slicing that thing into a bloody *_gory_* mess
He does it 4 times!
It isn’t Ryan…it’s a Skrull 😮
@NeonApathy @NeonApathy
You might be right. It resembles his name so closely that it's hard to imagine why he'd have so much trouble saying it!
🐱🥚@Arey
@ryanArey
After watching this movie, I can say. The references of the MCU is very deep. Knowing how they manager to use animation with life action
Miss Minutes in Loki should give you a decent idea.
“Caterogize” is amazing. 😂
Caterogize!
Thought I was the only one for a second
It was driving me a little crazy and I didn't want to say anything. Some folks trip on certain words and I have to learn to let stuff go lol
But seriously…’caterogize’?? FOUR times??
Dr. Selvig also wrote it down as 616 in Thor the Dark World.
I have seen floating in the internet that Across the Spiderverse not only fixes No Way Homes plot holes (like why Venom & Electro showed up) but it also fixes Morbius’ post credit (reason why Vulture shows up in Sony verse). Are those theories true? If so please make a video about it! Ty
Kindaaa
It would be cool if we got a reference or name-drop to Kang the Conqueror in one of the Spider-Verse films, but I don't think he will be a main villain for them. The Spot, being able to travel through the multiverse as well as the fact that he is literally made up of interdimensional portals opens the door for him to have encountered Kang before also. Shameik Moore transitioning to live action as Miles for Secret Wars would be epic also, so maybe Beyond the Spider-Verse has a post credits scene which teases this! Seeing Hailee Steinfeld play Gwen as well as Kate Bishop would be cool, and a scene where they meet each other face-to-face is a hilarious prospect! They could do the same for Oscar Isaac, Karan Soni and Chris Evans during Secret Wars as well, who have also played different Marvel roles so yeah.
What about Knull ?
@@bluebird1954it was never mentioned
I don't think Kang will be in the Spiderverse films at most probably a reference and Spot most likely take the spot of Kang and be the big bad of the Spiderverse sequel.
Imagine if there was a kang Spiderman variant 😮
I can honestly see the Spot being more of a joke villain. I'd say an evil Spider-man or even a Spider-Kang would be more likely.
@@MrJakePaddy well apparently the Spot is gonna be the main villain of Across the Spiderverse and it's sequel probably more so the sequel considering Across seems to mainly be about Miguel not allowing Miles into the Spider society with Spot mainly being a side/minor obstacle for Miles
Finally Spot will be recognized and brought to the mainstream where he always belonged
The biggest plot twist would be that Miguel O'Hara could be working for Kang the conqueror.
I still question if it's legally possible for Kang to appear in Across the Spider-Verse, but maybe behind the scenes Sony and Marvel did work out some contractual agreement.
I don’t buy the legality stuff. Fact is it about profit not continuity. They will do whatever makes the most bang for the buck. Heck don’t be shocked if/when Disney buys Sony (at least the media version not the electronic products version).
Of course it’s “legally possible”, just as it was for spider man to appear in Civil War. They just need to collaborate and get the necessary permissions. If he doesn’t appear, it’s not because it’s “not legally possible”, it’s because they didn’t want to collaborate on the cross over. I think it’s highly unlikely that he will appear in any way. At most it could be a reference or a post credit scene, but even that seems unlikely. Sony did amazing things without Marvel in the original. They don’t need Marvel now.
Oh they definitely did. I don't know it was regarding this character but going forward Sony and Marvel are working together on every project after Kraven. From what I was told they even helped them with that project as best they could considering how far along it was when they signed the new agreement.
They can share any characters they agree upon sharing.
@@JPexo no, that was separate and about streaming rights. The agreement we are referring to is the one in regards to sharing characters.
Ah yes, you must always watch out for that scrert villain! He is very ,very sneaky.
THANKS for this!!!! And you meant, "Is KANG The *Secret* ..." [AFTER FIXED] Thanks! Nice use of Pops!!!!
Typo! Love the vids keep ‘em coming
The word categorized went 3-0 vs Ryan 😂😂
@Screencrush In a number of interviews leading up to Ms Marvel, Iman Vellani refers to a dispute she has with the universe, saying Fiege refers to it as 616; but she believes it is 19999 (especially on red carpet)
TIL the word "categorize" is Ryan's kryptonite.
Even the CW Flash Show has been doing the multiverse trend since around 2015
IS IT POSSIBLE: When the Sacred Timeline was in tact, the Main MCU is Earth-616. Once broken & apart of MultiVerse it’s Earth-19999.
“Scrert” Nice
“Catoregize”
I think that Morlin should be the villain for Beyond the Spiderverse and Across the Spiderverse. Maybe Spiderman (TASM), Spiderman (Raimi) and Spiderman (MCU) formed an Avengers like Spiderman team to fight Morlin the first time. The Spiderman Avengers team consisted of Spiderman (TASM), Spiderman (Raimi), Spiderman (MCU), Ghost Spider (Gwen Stacy) (Marvel Rising), Lego Spiderman (Lego Marvel digitally released movies) and Spectacular Spiderman.
Well I wish they could have a Multiversal Sinister Six or a Goblin verse or evil Spider people like the Batman who laughs kinda thing
I think they could still do Morlin after this, like they could do Spider-Geddon trilogy or something which I think could bring the animated movies to big live action spiderman crossover but that’s just crazy hopeful wishing
Yup, it’s all connected and I’m in for it
It’s a pretty cool theory that we might see Kang in the post credit scene, knowing that Spider-Man 2099 mentions No Way Home.
I came up with better vulture explanation: Adrian Toomes from the venomverse gets pulled into MCU, Police see him walking around, assume one of his old associates has broken him out of prison (given all the other wired stuff happening it makes sense to them) so arrest him, throw him back into prison where he meets the MCU Adrian who tells him all about whats been going on. They make a plan to get out and MCU Adrian gives Venomverse Adrian a copy of the vulture suit incase it doesn't work and one of them needs to free the other. Before that happen Venomverse Adrian gets pulled back into his own universe but now has the plans.
Sony did the Multiverse first, so that's why the numbers are off. In ITSV, Peter B. Parker is from 616, which implies he's OUR Spider-Man from the future. The MCU just decided to go with what was introduced in Far From Home since it's simpler.
Edit: this also reinforces that the MCU has been disregarding recent Marvel Comics decisions while Sony is paying homage to them.
“Caterogized” 😂.
Dang 15 minute ago! I got lucky today catching screen crush video this early 🎉
Into the Spider-Verse: Miles is introduced to the Spider-Verse
Across the Spider-Verse: Miles learns about how this Spider-Verse connects all Spider-People as he travels across it
Beyond the Spider-Verse: Miles discovers that the multiverse is larger than, or goes beyond, the Spider-Verse
*That’s just my guess*
He will be in Beyond the Spiderverse not this one, and it will most likely just be a cameo or a reference to him
A big reference 😁
There are more universes for animated characters that’s why the comics and animated Spider-Man movies have the MCU as 199999
I think
Lol you said categorized wrong twice bro 😂 between 7:00 and 7:26 lol . Idc just an observation. Great videos man!!!!! Keep up the great work. And your theory on Kang seems likely 👌🏾
Well yeah. Anyone who knows anything should imagine that kang is connected to any multiverse in marvel. But the Dr. strange spell may not have gone correctly. We saw it get disrupted 5 times. So, yeah. Just saying.
Bravo!
Make it happen Ryan. I dig this theory
@screencrush are you saying caterogize in stead of categorize?
Scrert villain, the best kind of villain
Agzhjsoene jam and don jajaisuhdhdne?
They gone do a cartoon to live action jump maybe that’s why it’s called beyond the spider verse
So, like, Beyond the Spiderverse is going end with Gwen threading the needle and ringing the bell to save Miles dad... and we get a replay of the bridge scene from Across where Gwen digs through rubble... but Gwen died saving miles dad creating his new canon event. But cause of spots powers the ripple effects are so massive the Spiderverse battle world is created for secret wars.
What btw is caterogizing? I couldn't get over that word, had to even check multiple times that he really said it, multiple times
@screencrush is having trouble with the crossover of vulture and venom.
Let's ask the question, "What does it look like to bring one character to another universe?"
It all depends on perspective and points of reference. Factors vary on how much is brought over it is quite possible for it to appear that one was brought over into the other when it was actually the other way around. Basically anytime it happens, it's a partial merger. Enough of the interjected source universe dominates the local area of the merger from the perspective of an individual observer despite the overall dominance of the greater universe is the reverse from what that same observer would recognize.
Any reversal of a merging incursion can be imperfect as well
CaterGORize! Holy Crap... I'm dyslexic and Mr. Aery constantly saying CateRORgize fried my brain.
Could be that 2099 is talking about an alternate earth where the Dr strange/spiderman event happened with little variation ie aunt may is a senior
RIP, Ray Stevenson.
The director of Guardians mentioned this was his fav movie as well..
I’m here for the Scrert
No, kang isn’t the villain of spider verse
It would make since and would, I think, reboot the Kang character to the treat he needs to be right now. It would also be a way to get Miles into the MCU. However, I wouldn't hold my breath. Disney is the limiting factor here, and they are only tolerating their relationship with Sony right now. Of course, they would have notes on the MCU and Kang storyline moving forward, of course it could just be a nice Easter egg, which is what I think it is.
"Okay thanks Cole, shut up" 😂
Peter B. Parker is from 616 in the first Spider-Verse film.
The reason why I like these movies is because it's not directly tied to the MCU I wish people would just stop with this like let these movies just be there own thing they are flawless works of art that doesn't need to be tarnished by the MCU
Sony is calling it the right name.
It’s all confusing but I’m here for it
Doctor strange was mentioned in Spider-Man 2 Tobey Maguire universe.
And remember there is a piece of venom in Tobey Maguire's universe The MCU and venom's own universe and remember k n u l l used the symbiotes to connect multiverse as well in The void
You said hexagon without showing the Bees meme, your slipping :P
You forget that in Thor: The Dark World , Dr. Erik Selvig states the universe as 616.
Every single time Ryan mispronounces “categorize”:
7:03
7:21
7:41
8:03
8:18
8:32
I needed this comment - twas driving me crazy
It could just be there for the commercial and in the movie they actually say 616
I'd like to see Spider-verse go live action eventually. Wizard of Oz style
"Cateregize"
MORLUN! No one else; best opportunity to introduce THE TOTEM concept and the character. Make an amalgam of Ezekiel and an older Peter Parker (different voice actor, Sam Elliot maybe?)
Sometimes I think Ryan just pronounces words wrong for engagement, so here’s your comment: the “g” is before the “r” in “category” so it’s generally pronounced the way that it’s spelled.
The movie secret villain should be morbius and gets the ability of morbin time
This is not the first time they mentioned Dr strange in a Spider-Man movie. Spider-Man 2 when they were trying to name Dr octopus what were they going to call him, Sam ramey's brother says Dr strange and then Jonah Jameson says it's good but already taken
Thumbed up for Spider Pig
And those wristbands of the spider people have look oddly like the ones from the comic book series exiles not the ultraverse version The Marvel versions
Categorise!
kang as the main villain of "beyond the spiderverse" would be so sick! I would love to see that marvel and sony work together more.
What IF: This multiverse story is just Misterio messing with Peter
Cool idea. But i think the Director or writers said Spot is gonna be the overall villain
Would love to see that the MCU is 616 in there own Multiverse. So that "the Web" is connected to the whole Marvel Omnivers, which uses our namings, but inside the MCM (Marvel Cinematic Multiverse) the Comics and the Videogames, these are there own separate Multiverses with there own 616s.
The actual MCU is both earth 199999 & 616
Maybe the 616 and then 199999 are not just alternate Earth but also for alternate timeline because Miguel O'Hara isn't just from a alternate future but from a timeline where it is happening at the same time as regular Peter Parker's timeline. It's like the 838 Earth which is more advanced but it happens at the same time as the 616 earth maybe the 616 universe and the 199999 are in the same universe but two separate timelines happening simultaneously like what if episode 4. That could be why some projects seem like they should be happening in the main MCU Cannon but they're not like agents of shield or the Marvel's Netflix shows. Because a timeline has already been effected by Kang that's why I care just like me. Marvel who can time travel like Kang See's time in a loop or America Chavez who can travel not just through alternate universes but dimension too or Doctor strange who can travel those dimensions which are on the border of alternate universes and timelines that's why dimension travel is so dangerous like the quantum realm or the dark dimension there's only one of those dimension because thay are present in every universe that's why character s travel will be important against the fight against Kang. Even Spider-Man who is able to use spider Sense through alternate dimensions and no way home.
AOS and Netflix are mcu canon
Spiderverse is canonical to the multiverse of MCU
Spot left the chat
I’m here for the big bad, scrert scrert
Couldn't the earth 19999 reference Dr. Strange and America Chavez?
Unrelated, but kinda related. Spiderman Far from home subtlety laid the groundwork for science being able to overcome magic if someone is smart enough. Meaning when Kang faces off with Doctor Strange at some point Kang will still be able to get the upper hand on him
I think I traveled to another universe, because secret is spelled different here
Didn't Kang get sucked into a computer type thing at the end of Quantumania? Could be a way to write him into the animated universe?
That core could have sent him anywhere in the multiverse, so it's possible.
i dont think kang will be the main villain but for sure ik in part 2 post credit scene will be kang but the kangaroo variant talking to miles about him wasting time and helping him get his family back and probably voiced by majors if he’s innocent which i hope he is
Maybe 19999 is the cartoon version of 616?
and also crush the kang that got sucked into his ship will become the beyonder which in the mcu is the strongest kang variant he’s gonna kill all of the council of kangs badly
Didn't one or more of the actors confirm that behind the scenes Marvel refers to the MCU as 199999?
Stahp!
Sorry for my ignorance on the Kang deep lore, but are there any variants that are Spidey-cific, or that were first seen in Spiderman books?
Not to my knowledge.
All these films are in the same multiverse. It's not like they're pocket universes in the MCU.
That would be a HELL NO!!
Maybe every mysterio throws out arandom number each time one does thats the label of their universe.
@4:17 That post-credit scene failed because the MOVIE SUCKED BALLS. but the implications were GREAT! Morbius is Spiderman's best villain, top #5. 5 to be exact. #1 going to SPider Carnage/Carnage Period. Marve has messed up there own Movies and comics.
I suppose it's also fair with the current references to the MCU as Earth 616, being determinations from a vacuum. I doubt the Illuminati of Doctor Steange has encountered any of the non-cinematic worlds
Imagine at the end it shows mile morals in human not cartoon form
PSA - Self Love By Coi Leroy & Link Up By Don Toliver Are Absolute Banger Songs In This Movie, Please Give The Released Snippets A Listen.
The mispronunciation of categorized is killing me. But great videos as usual
Maybe he didn't call it 616 as a fourth wall break
didn’t someone officially say this spiderverse movie won’t connect to mcu spidey
It’s all connected in the movie
I’ll probably imagine in Deadpool 3 Venom shows up From the venomverse Only both of them including some of the X-Men teleport to the MCU and surrounded by The thunderbolt and damage control.
Someone tell screencrush what is Jonathan major is up to right now lmao
Venom left a piece of himself behind so there's very likely going to be a payoff later on. We didn't actually need him in the film. He was just there because of the Klyntar multiversal hive mind. Hardy's Venom knows versions of himself have fought Spider-Man before and because a majority of Venoms know Peter Parker is Spider-Man due to Venom's comic book origin, that was passed along the Klyntar hive mind. It will soon pass to a potential MCU Venom either through the hive mind or if the symbiote left behind follows his comic book origins. Either way, don't write off Venom just yet. Hardy's Venom didn't have any stakes in that fight. There doesn't seem to be a Spider-Man in his universe and Hardy's Venom is a bit more...chill compared to some of his variants, thanks to his co-pilot relationship with Eddie.
7:03 and 7:41 and 8:32 caterogize = categorize. Doug, you are typing the scripts wrong!
