THANK YOU! The Harley dealer said I needed to change the whole back piece from antenna to antenna. Your video, a $20 part, and maybe 10 minutes, and it's fixed. Excellent video with every bit of info needed.
Very nice. Great info. Was not aware that the antenna ‘stud’ was replaceable. Now, if only any of the alternative solutions improved reception………other then Sirrus/XM
Back in day when your antenna was broke off the car. Stick part of a wire coat hanger in hole connect to leads. Something similar should work here on the road. Worth a try. Ride Safe
My FM antenna runs horizontally under the left saddlebag, mounted off a bracket at the left footboard mount. Saw that trick on a police bike and copied it. Not 100% effective, maybe 80%, but isn't whipping around causing problems.
Doc, CB question I (and all in our HOG group with CBS) have noticed a considerable difference in performance between older HK CBs (2009-13), and newer 2014-present Boom "bike to bike communication" CB. (the older CBs have much more range both transmit and receive.) I notice in my 09 there was a "coil" in line with the CB antenna, this is not present in the newer BOOM CB. Why? Did the coil improve transmission / reception?
Cosmetic is the reason. The early CB had very long antennas. The longer the antenna the more range and induction. People complain about the very long antenna hitting garage doors and ceiling. So Harley gave the people what they wanted= short antenna! Could you install longer antenna? Yes BUT you would need an SWR meter to match the most frequency you used……Doc
Doc, thanks for the very informative videos. Question--Have 2010 FLHTK, & service manual, & electrical diagnostic manual. What do they mean by "clean ground & dirty ground" , also it does not show in manual where they are.
Search my videos, I believe i talked about this. In front of your battery in the frame are two studs. one has black wires with green stripes. This is the Clean Ground Stud. Your ECM, BCM and other sensitive electrical items have their grounds end here. I am impressed by you commitment to have as much correct information available to service your bike...Doc
Here’s a question. HD has obsoleted the relocation kit for the cb So how do they suggest we move the antenna with a quick detach kit? I’m having to cobble together a solution for a brand new 45000 dollar bike! Else I lose half my comm ability.
Sorry Doc, but my 2018 FLHTK's antenna base does NOT come out of the LED tail light assembly. I removed that bad boy only to find the threaded collar w/the pin inside (that mates to the antenna base) cannot be separated from the LED assembly! Did I miss something taking it apart? My only solution/choice was to carefully hacksaw the antenna stud flush w/the tour pack, file it perfectly flat (again, carefully and using WD-40), step drill an 11/36" hole dead-center into the existing antenna base (which appears to be soft brass/copper), tap a threaded hole, and then mate my new stubby antenna to the base using a double-ended 9-mm stud from ACE Hardware. It cost me only $20 (stud, tap & tap t-handle), and when done I felt quite satisifed that I was able to fix the &^%$ thing!
HEY DOC, GOT A QUESTION ITS ON MY OLDER 97 FLHTCUI.. MY RADIO ANT. IS BROKE I WAS TOLD THAT THIS ALSO WORKS AS A GROUND FOR THE RADIO.. 🤷🏻♂️ I HAVE NO CONTROLS ON THE BARS THAT WORK ONLY THE BACKLIGHT AS FAR AS DISPLAY.. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.. ON A VERY LIMITED INCOME.. THANKS IN ADVANCE
Hey Doc, 3 inches of snow here in Montreal this morning... Looking for someone to adopt me in a sunshine state, would you??? PLEASE Great video as usual.
Hi Doc ! Always interesting your vids👍💪 I profite of this vid to say my opinion 'bout the stupid and dangerous habit that riders have listening to radio/media players while riding. Are we kidding ??? Riding a motorcycle, in this case an Harley, *Real riders* should need to listening to but Harley engine, exhaust tubes, and last but not least !... the environmental... with its rumors/traffic/persons/children/animals noises which will keep the rider active and "awake" on whatsabout around him/her ??? A f...ng media player on a motorcycle... ??? No thanks ! I do whish a safety ride to everyone 💪💚
Toro this is America where anyone can have what they want. On a lonely road in Utah during my cross country trip, I wished I had a radio to have a Soundtrack behind my moments of joy...Doc

Awesome content
How does the am / fm antenna differ from the cb antenna?
Any idea where to get a replacement part? Harley doesn't offer it any longer
I have been notified that this “Kit” number is no longer, but individual parts are still good. Check with your local parts specialist….Doc

My antenna doesn’t pick up the stations but my car does.
New option: listen to your bike, not the radio.
