I watched your first RIPMO AF review and it changed my world , I called my IBIS dealer and bought one of the first batch of bikes . I LOVE IT ! I ride it on every type of terrain THANKS MO/Hannah👍🏼
I've been riding a Ripmo v2 since Fall 2020 and love it. I have the XT version with the Ibis carbon 35 wheels and i9 hub, shock X2, grip2 fork, and I installed an absolute black oval 30 tooth chainring. He's perfect! He climbs really well, and the pedaling is perfect! For my beefier physique, I'm more comfortable on the Ripmo v2. I prefer to climb less quickly and have more stability on the descent. I don't tink the Ripmo V2 have enduro voacation. I feel it more like an agressive all mountain. In short, I find it versatile, and perfect for me. The Ripley is an excellent trail machine, but limited in technical descent.
You both inspired me to get on my bike more, get in the MTB community more, and start a channel. I’m all in on Awesome MTB and, Mo and Hannah. Nothing but great things for you both! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Shaun got me set up on a RIPMO, its definitely lived up to the hype. Now its currently torn down and being built up with all the parts i wanted that didnt come on the specced build from Ibis.
Shaun is fantastic to deal with, he gets alot of my money, lol. I've had the v2 since it pretty much came out, XTR build. Which Ibis no longer offers for some reason but it was offered at the beginning of the release. Like you, I've added a few things as well to make it even more rad. I think v2 is the best all round one bike quiver that is so close to that term, not exactly but very close, it just rips and leaves you smiling as it does it. Question: Will I ever stop upgrading this bike? Answer: 🤔
I have the Ripmo V2 but demoed the Ripley (on ATCA, Oakridge, OR). For me, the climbing difference was negligible but I definitely noticed descending was much more confident on the Ripmo. I think if I could afford it I’d have a second cross country oriented bike but since I only can afford one I chose the Ripmo.
Having a hard time deciding between the 2023 Ripmo v2s or the 2023 Ripley v4s... this will be my first full suspension mountain bike (i've always ridden hardtails, I'll be coming off a 2021 Salsa Timberjack w/ a 130mm front fork). I mainly ride undulating flow trails with chunky tree roots in Alaska, but do a big big trip every year towards the moab/colorado/northwest area. The big factor is I broke my back and neck 3 years ago whitewater kayaking, so I'm looking to soften the hard ride of the softtail up. I would love to have a lighter bike like the Ripley, but the extra cush of the Ripmo would probably feel better on my back. Any suggestions?
Ripley would be great for 90% of riding I do. Would be nice to get cheap deore ripmo af for 2nd bike for spots with great downhills and chunky technical trails
Hey Mo (and Hannah)...I have a Ripmo v2 and a Ripley LS. Since I purchased my Ripmo in May 2021 (from N+1), I haven't ridden my Ripley since. But, I miss it. They are totally different bikes and my riding style is probably more Ripmo'ish but I know what you are saying re the Ripley. If I had to have just one bike, it would be the Ripley. Ripmo is great but a lot of times its just too much bike. It's great in Pisgah and bike parks, but for most trails it's overkill.
Great review. Being an owner of the Ripley v1, v2 OG, v2 LS, now Ripley v4 and the Ripmo v1 (now on my second v1 Ripmo) I can say I agree very much with the "one bike quiver" statement. I love the Ripmo for big chunk an big gnar, but the Ripley (v4) with two sets of wheels/tires makes for a VERY capable bike. On my Ripley v4 running 2.3's on race wheels it is very close to an XC race bike. With 35mm wide Ibis rims on 2.6 tires the Ripley can handle pretty much anything, just not as plush on the big chunk as the Ripmo (obviously). I am fortunate that I can have both bikes, but if I had to pick one, it would be the v4 Ripley with two sets of wheels :-)
CactusJack: What 2.6 tires are you using on front and back? I'm currently using the OG Hans Dampf and Nobby Nick at 2.35 here in Colorado; but noticed others in the SW US use DHR2.4 (front) and Dissector2.4 (rear). Would appreciate your insights. Cheers!
Well, probably the real solution to deciding between the two is get them both :) As much as I imagine having the ultimate magic carpet on the downhill, I feel like a lighter bike is still ideal if there is 1-2 hour climbing. Its probably worth demo them both to though to get know for certain.
I love my V1 Ripmo but lately been contemplating selling it and getting the V4 Ripley with a burly build. I know there are trade offs. I really love the way the Ripmo descends and the increased confidence. I know it isn't quite as efficient as the Ripley. What I'm after is something that is super responsive like the Ripley, but descends as well as the Ripmo. I know there are no Unicorns!...LOL...N+1!! However, the Ripmo is close to it. Maybe I'll wait and see what they come out with next.
Hey Mo, I’ve got a ripmo v2 but thinking about the ripley as a longer distance xc trail bike. Have a chance to buy a new Ripley and like you I Enjoy climbing and exploring. Do you think there would be a big enough difference to have both? Exie is a bit expensive for me currently!
I'm subscribed. I don't mind when you guys do different stuff other than mtb. This whole thing is better when you guys are laughing and having fun. I love mtb but you can't ride 24-7. Others just want to make the monkey dance. I want to see free spirits soar.
I love clipless pedals, I'll never go back. I know its a huge debate like 29vs 27.5 or ebike or no ebike, but there are many benefits to clipless and you described one for sure. YOU CANNOT, YOU CANNOT, climb on flats like you can on clipless, I don't care what pedals they are. Another benefit is jumping. Your feet do not move in the air so your secure to land and some times your feet move when jumping on flats. Most enduro and downhill pro's all ride clipless too.

I’m super stoked that you are doing a product review channel! Still love your other channel too. 🤘🏼 Now I’ll have more content to watch!

I own a black/olive V1 with exact same skinwall set up front and rear. All factory moving parts and brown TMacs. 2nd Ibis, always dave weagle.
So awesome!!!

Own both? You would get more out your trails swapping out the Ripley or Ripmo. Try an XC bike or Enduro.
My Ripley is almost an xc bike when I swap out the wheels for my race set, and when I put my 120mm Lefty on it it IS an excellent xc bike :-)

Do you run inserts?? In Arizona SoMo rocks I can’t ride without them
I don't, I don't really feel a need to! But minesweeper makes some awesome ones!!!
Subscribed! Good luck guys
Thank you!!!!
Mo.
I know long ago you had a Pivot Firebird with the dw link. How’d that compare to the Ibis V2. That being said, I have a AF and I love it.
It was awesome but word on the street is a new Firebird is coming out soon!
If you had a choice of bikes for Sedona / south mountain what bike. Ripmo or Ripley.
I would probably say Ripmo just because I don't want to crash out there at all! LOLOL

Mo, have you come across a quick release wheel axles for the 2021 ibis ripmo af. Thank you in advance
Would you ever consider clipless pedals. I myself enjoy them going up steep punchy climbs where you can push a harder gear.

@@travelthenarrowtrail8660 I totally agree.
@@travelthenarrowtrail8660 you also have a new subscriber now
Personally I have run clips and I prefer flats hands down, just more confidence and I climb really well with them as well. To each their own!!!
@@AnthonyOrtega-ki4mx appreciate you!
Can’t wait till you get your hands on the Exie. Yeww! #turbosubbed
Soon!!!
I think I want a Ripmo being out in Arizona.
That would be awesome!!
@@awesomemtbtips thanks for the reply. Great review. Always enjoying your videos.

Do you wish you had the Ripley on the East Coast?

Do what I did.....I bought them both.

You are right. I live in TX and other than a handful of places the Ripley is the better bike to have.
