    You could also look at the device you want to connect to your power source, and see what the Wattage use is. If you don't have a wattage, take the Voltage multiply it by the Amperage needed, this will give you the wattage. If at max it is going to draw over 400 watts, then this circuit will not be good enough for it. Keep it Simple, do the math before you use it.

    Volts ÷ Watts = Amps
    120v ÷ 400w (This is the wattage the Tacoma gives you) = 3.3 amps.
    So not many things runs on that plug. My Bostich pancake compressor cannot run on that outlet. Because of that, I bring my power generator when I need power. At 400 watts / 3.3 amps max, this is not designed for power tools. Not even a coffee maker can run there.

    I believe a normal 15amp circuit in your house is about 1400-1800 watts, so yeah 400w is very basic. I view the 400watts as something for camping like filling up mattress or running an outdoor shower pump.

      Yup that’s about it. It’s still useable, just wish it had a little more juice. But I think Toyota doesn’t have it overpriced or anything. I’m happy I have it but wouldn’t pay crazy 💰 to have it.

    With the air compressor, I tried to use a shop air compressor that’s a lot bigger than the one you had, and it would not power it so the smaller air compressors is what you want. And I also hooked up a 5 gallon shot vacuum and it barely powered it.😂

    Perfect for electric tooth brush in an emergency. More of a sales pitch. A 3000 watt inverter would be more like it but would require a very large alternator and or battery set. Humvees have been using them for a while so it is possible.

    Save yourself some time and just read the wattage requirement printed on every device. >400 watts, no go.

  • @johnburla
    @johnburla Рік тому +4

    I'm not trying to be a jerk, but 400
    watts converts to approximately
    3.3 amps. So ipso facto; just look at the amperage that your device requires first before plugging it in.
    The average hair dryer pulls close to 15 amps. I wouldn't risk my Tacoma outlet on anything that utilizes heating coils or plates.
    In short, the AC truck bed outlet is quite practical if you use common sense.

      I did in this video. I know it wouldn’t work but wanted to see how long it can go. Coffee makers pull well north (1200w+) of the 400w this can put out. The new Tacoma coming out with the hybrid power train will have an option for a 2400w outlet. That will be able to handle it.

      Unfortunately newer vehicles are just loaded with stuff to break and jack the price. The Tacoma is probably one of the more basic trucks you can buy today. I’m sure the upcoming Tacoma will continue this automotive trend.

      @automatereviews  Рік тому

      A lot of questions. Lol. Here we go.
      1. Exhaust smell is ok but I prefer old school big block V8 with tons of gas unburned. Tacoma kind of reminds me of a food truck with a gas generator running. Get a nice burger while smelling exhaust fumes.
      2. My lungs are doing great! As far as I know. I work in the power trade so I’m sure I’ll get mesothelioma.
      3. If my lungs stay good, nice!
      4. That’s a great idea for the fan as it’s useless for other applications. Or set a fan up in my tent connected to the truck while it runs all night. Lol.
      5. 🤪

      I somewhat agree. I wouldn’t say it was the worst I’ve driven. But if your use to low end torque I can see the dislike. The 3.5 in the current gen kind of reminds me of a Honda 4cyl engine with nothing down low, needing higher revs for power. I’m sure this change this generation was for emissions requirements. And the next gen going 4cyl turbo. Definitely not liking the future auto landscape.

    • @automatereviews
      @automatereviews  10 місяців тому +1

      Essentially yes the engine needs to be on to use the outlet. It can be turned on if the ignition switch is in the on position without the engine running but you will drain your battery. If you are in Park or Neutral, you get the full 400w in the outlet. In drive it’s down to 100 w.
