I love the writing and narration, and the well-timed pictures for reference, especially the ones specific to the case. Lots of work goes into these, and no time-wasting "branding" or pushy, preliminary requests for comments or subscriptions. So glad I found this channel.
Found your channel today. This is the second story I'm listening to in bed. Goodnight from this side of the world and thank you. You've got a new fan and subscriber from Penang Island, Malaysia. 🙏🏾
I have several videos planned connected to the American Revolution, Norfolk was the birthplace of Thomas Paine, what became the Norfolk Regiment was captured at Saratoga and a few other small things.
The videos on this channel are just so good. I follow a number of similar-ish UA-cam channels, and obviously I only do this with ones whose output I enjoy, even so, I find this gentleman's to be particularly good. He writes notably well. Fluid, clear writing, which always serves the story being told, and never falls into the common trap of being too ornate (something I do myself far too often). The pictures and photos are all excellent. Such work and research must go into each one And while the stories are interesting in and off themselves, he always explains the wider significance and /or importance they had. He is also very good at quickly explaining all the historical elements that come in to the narratives, but doing so briefly, so the flow of the story isn't lost. This man's writing is deceptively artless. It takes a really skilled writer to write something of such quality and to do so over and over. I wonder what his background is...he may have explained it in one of his videos which I haven't yet watched. (sorry if there are typos or weird mistakes...my vision is dodgy and my cat likes to stand both on the keyboard and in front of the pc screen, even when they're 10 feet apart, breaking the laws of physics in that way cats have)
Thank you so much for all the comments you have left. It is always great to see this little hobby of mine is appreciated. I try to make them something I would want to watch so keep them largely focused on the topic, adding bit of extra context where needed but not too much as to bog the video down. As for my background I don't really go into it in videos as the way I see it the channel is about history not about me. The best way to put it though is I am a fan of history who thinks that Norfolk and Suffolk is rather under represented so is trying to change it.
The fact they made ceramic houses of the mansion made me think about the same thing being done for The Red Barn murders in 1827. Now I'm curious about how many different cases with these little ceramic models are around.
So pleased and grateful your able to continue your videos. It's a pleasure to listen and be informed about the very interesting history of 'sleepy norfolk'. I hope things have gone well personally with the move and changes for the better for you. Thanks so much for your efforts, they are appreciated.
Thank you very much, yes things have gone very well now I am in the flat, was a bit of a nightmare over all, 9 months from viewing the place to moving in due to one reason or another.
@@alittlebitofhistory It's so good to hear that a good person has good things happening to them. Your videos reflect a lot about you as a person and its great seeing your time and research like the grave finding video. Big fan, its amazing how many presentation ideas spring up. Eagerly awaiting each video as and when you have the time.
Thank You for such a wonderful presentation. "Blanche Fury" is one of my favourite movies and I'm always curious about the crime and time upon which it was based. Fantastic channel.
I still need to get around to watching it, I understand that is inspired and isn't a full retelling of the even but still I am looking forward to watching it.
Thank you again for all the time n research you put into your posts. Have you thought of doing a series of books. There’s been so many unusual characters, gory murders n disasters. You could do themes on the different categories.
Found Blanche Fury on UA-cam, thought I’d give it a go. Truth is ‘better’ than fiction. They did stick to some details, although Stewart Grainger didn’t wash his clothes, he just asked for some clean ones.”
I just discovered your channel today and I'm thrilled that I did! The wealth of information you give to set the scene is really extraordinary! Thank you for presenting such an interesting program I am happy to tell you that I'm subscribed!
I have always enjoyed history. Thank you for taking the time and doing the research to bring this centuries old crime to the modern era. I enjoyed listening to it.
Another great presentation and as always great illustrations. I think he killed his stepfather and mother too. Jury's in those days were so fast and people very gory about executions.
That was superb! Well presented and such brilliant accompanying social history. Most informative. Plus Fram got a mention… I was parked next to that sign only the other day! 😃👍
Kind of love the idea of them turning back an entire train loaded with pickpockets and muggers. London's crime rates must have been low that day, at least until the train full of frustrated crooks got back to town.
I had to delete my comment. I am autistic and don't like people calling me nutty as someone did on here. I didn't put my original comment on here for people to attack me.
The murder is barbaric but I would say the people of the time are equally as barbaric. Traveling from front and wide to witness him being hung in the streets... Though these days we are just as desensitized. Through media and everything else. Maybe that's just human nature.
Not only was it from idle and morbid curiosity, but also to teach their children where they could end up if they strayed from the straight and narrow path. In the 1810's there was a children's book titled "The Fairchild Family". It was about the adventures and misadventures and moral lessons that the children would have and learn. It was so popular that it remained in print throughout the 19th century. There was a scene in the book where two of the brothers were fighting over a toy. The father (instead of just confiscating the toy so nobody would have it) took it one step further. He took all his children into town to view the body of a man hanging in the gibbet, he had been hang for killing his brother. That scene disturbed many parents (and the children as well) so when the book was in it's next edition, the editors had removed it. So not a whole lot of people liked seeing or reading about something so gruesome. Also, like it or not, a public execution WAS entertainment for the masses as was the trial. 😐
Financial aspects could do with the modern day conversion too hard to appreciate the concept of the value it had back in the day with out a comparison to the current day and age.
great stories excellent content but your reading is uneven, you should proof red your script til you can understand its flow better, more like conversation, you keep halting, but i do enjoy your stories, thank you
The pauses are due to editing out breathing, Hopefully this will start to reduce now I have a decent mic and a getting pop filters, it is something I am trying to chance as I know its puts people off.
@@alittlebitofhistory not that much your content is great, may you ever go from strength to strength, you've much to be proud of, i enjoy your work immensely, thank you
Don't just say "sharecroppers" or "slaves" Some worked the land for a share and some worked the land for shelter. Fancy talk is smothering the reality. It is illegal for you to work their land (Uncle Sam's plantation) Homesteading is the historical way to wealth, independence, Ask any Amish or Indigenous human.
I am a little confused by this comment, I didn't use either slaves or Sharecroppers, I did call Rush what he was a tenant farmer but that is a very different things, also not sure what the reference to America have to do with a murder than took place in England.
looks like he lost a great deal of weight and shaved his beard before he married someone who could easiiy be mistaken for his twin sister he later regrew his beard and became quite corpulent
Excellent. Thank you, well researched and narrated. As a Wymondham resident I love local tales….
That was a new one for me thank you 💐👏👏

Very interesting! I've never heard of this story. Has there been a movie about this?
Not directly but Blanche Fury from 1948 was inspired by it.
Enjoyed this immensely, thanks for all your affords. Canada.
The fact they made ceramic houses of the mansion made me think about the same thing being done for The Red Barn murders in 1827. Now I'm curious about how many different cases with these little ceramic models are around.
I would assume a lot from around that time period given how big the ceramics industry was in the country at the time.
Well worth waiting for, thank you.

It does seem likely that he might have only to have the money slip from is grasp each time.

What a jerk and stupid as all get out!
It’s lovely the ladies were given help after the whole ordeal ended. I really like that part. 💜
The number of people, not the amount of people.

Bravo for standing up for yourself 💜
It’s sad that cruel destructive and small minded people exist.

Well , I mean did you watch the first half of the video?
How can you commit forgery for someone who can't write?
Definitely a candidate for “World’s Dumbest Criminal”

Now we’re indoors watching death on a screen. We’re fascinated by death, knowing that it will come for each of us and we don’t know how.

nothing has changed, it's just human nature as you pointed out. millions of people have viewed public executions online
Look at those countries that still have public executions and you'll still see huge crowds attending.
How are we different from them? It's in our nature.
In modern day he would not have even reached police hands.
