20:40 - You have to remember this show takes place in the 80’s, lol. They didn’t have pinhole cameras on portable phones back then. If you wanted to record something, you’d need a video camera that would fall between the sizes of a 12 and 24 can pack of sodas and weigh nearly the same. Also, the internet was barely a thing, at that point, with most people not even knowing what it was. Certainly not something a person could share a video over. Heck, the first image wasn’t upload online until 1992 (so they have about 10 years before they could ever hope to share selfies; and they’d be a grainy mess, lol).

I will drop this comment for you, I believe there are halfway through season two already, I'm not one of the patreon members but I vaguely recall a couple weeks ago seeing season 2 X 04 come up on one of the announcements
and even so it's like bad actions are bad actions
a character can be more likable/get better but the collective amnesia some people have about some stuff characters did
calling out those actions are totally valid
people like to pick and choose character flaws/certain things and not do it with others in this fandom
@@nightfrost1891Steve and Johnathan both suck in season 1. Johnathan is a total creep and gives me vibes that he would definitely be the type you’d see on the news for taking advantage of a girl. And Steve is too easily influenced by his “friends” and let them humiliate Nancy.
Both did bad things…some are crimes (Johnathan) and others are witnesses crimes and not doing anything about it (Steve). Both have to have flaws to grow as characters over the course of 5 seasons.
That's how you know Mike is a REAL friend. Someone that really cares about you would jump if they thought your throat was going to get cut. Crazy... scene.
If you think about it he might have just cost Dustin his life. If El didn't step in I can't imagine the two bullies letting Dustin live after they realized they just killed Mike. Probably would have just pushed him into the reservoir right after
If he was gonna jump he was kinda dumb about it lol he should have at least gotten a running start because the way he just stepped off he probably would have hit the rocks on the shore. But if you land properly in the water from that height it’s definitely survivable
@@yomamma.ismydaddy216Only a professional swimmer could have a slight chance of surviving that because there's a technique for everything. In Mike's case no matter how far he jumps the water will still hit him like cement.

Also you don’t have to be a professional swimmer lol swimming has absolutely nothing to do with it, professional diving is completely different than swimming

The difference with Will is he stumbled across the Demogoran in the middle of the road. From there it hunted him. Whereas everyone else was targeted after shedding blood.
He also crashed his bike, he could have skinned his knee or something.

El literally tried to kill Lucas the previous episode. Did everyone forget about that? He can't just accept her after that incident!
I think the monster was hunting and Will was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The monster saw him and pursued him; the scent of blood was no longer necessary since he was right there for the taking.

I don't think it was so much the touch as the scream after the touch. We've seen El's scream cause destruction, so it would make sense that her most terrified scream would rip open the gate

@@iammiller5478 Yes and no because remember he said he could not make his own gates until after what happened in season 3 but the demegorgan can so I think he mind flayer the demegorgan to get Will and that's why he was able to open the lock on the door with his mind and why it didn't eat him, or he just jumped through one of the demegorgans gates and got him himself. No they don't know who Vecna is yet so not sure how much of a spoiler that is since they don't know what you are talking about but you might want to stop trying to spoil the story for them
@@TheRepublican777 it was Vecna, he probably created an illusion for will and then will somehow got to the upsidedown. A Demogorgon would definitely kill Will if he saw him just like Barb. It'll all be explained in season 5 though but you're right, I won't spoil anything again
@@iammiller5478 Yea an illusion is possible but will did have a gun on him when he got taken that gave him the upper hand to defend himself just long enough to get away, because even if Vecna originally took him we know the demegorgan has been chasing him in the upsidedown the whole time and he got him in his hide out and put him in the vines to get invested Barb was too but didn't survive, I think Vecna took over the demegorgan so they would not eat him Barb wasn't eaten either even though she died. I can't wait for season 5

In the 80s it wasn't uncommon for a kid to be in a store alone. At the same age, I would walk or ride my bike to stores to buy candy/treats with my own money.
I grew up in the 80's and went to the store by myself all the time. It was probably more common since it was a safer time.
@samjohnson7869 The 80’s wasn’t so much safer, but people may have acted like it was. I think people are far more aware of the evils out there, and are more cautious now. Times are definitely safer than the 80’s though.

It was just before the 24-hour news cycle, which caused people to become far more cautious and aware/paranoid (depending on your perspective) than they were back when the crime rates were actually very much higher. One of those little ironies of the 20th century.

That's cuz Lucas is the most practical of the bunch. Wouldn't you distrust a stranger that claims to have powers?
Especially since he hasn't seen or heard anything of the actual monster. That's a piece of the puzzle that belongs almost entirely to the other character groups in the story. From Lucas' perspective, it actually makes some sense to suspect that El might be the monster herself. I mean, half of the *audience* was wondering about the connection there, and we didn't have any adolescent friend jealousies (or typical early adolescent boy distrust of girls, for that matter) influencing our thought processes like he does!
He already saw at this point that her powers were real.

My god i honestly think Steve has one of the greatest character arcs in TV show history. Just this first season alone and it happens over 3 episodes!! My theory on why the Demogorgon attacked Will in the first episode is cause he was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Demogorgon was probably hunting in the woods after just getting out of the Upside Down and it just so happened to come across Will seeing as he lives so close to Hawkins National Lab

I love the way Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) says Noncy instead of Nancy sometimes - his British accent comes out at times. This is a frightening episode. So glad Nancy made it out. Yes, the woman talking with Mr. Clark is the bioche that killed Benny.

14:10 The kids in this show are the same age I was (I would probably be between the young group and Nancy/Steve/Jonathan). Hard to believe as it may be, in the 70s and early 80s, we wandered around without adults all the time. It wasn't unusual and didn't draw attention.

They were using Eleven to remotely spy on people, but in reaching out she connected with the Demogorgon in another dimension which caused all of these Strange Things.

Fringe is great despite there being some inconsistency vies between seasons.
Love Fringe, and totally forgive it it's flaws because it's such a good ride. Walter Bishop is one of my favorite characters of all time.

I’m pretty sure other commenters here or on patreon have already covered it though but in regards to Steve not being a bad person-- YES! It’s lovely to see reactors not judging him so harshly based solely on his actions in this season and are actually considering his perspective and his reasons for his behavior.
That being said you’re spot on about his ‘friends’. It’s important to keep in mind that they are all teenagers and not all teens and not all people but some can be shallow, and petty, and a lot of things that seem important at that age we find are rather superficial as we mature.
That being said, yeah Steve isn’t a bad person, and his friends…, well they aren’t the nicest of people or kind- But even then I do want to point out something that people gloss over or miss regarding EVEN THEM in this episode.
Steve thought Nancy hadn’t just cheated on him but spent the night with Jonathan. It’s what his friends thought to after he told them what he saw. In their minds they likely felt justified after assuming Nancy had hurt Steve. And even during Steve & Jonathan’s fight Tommy let it play out as a fair fight rather than be disgraceful and gang up on Jonathan with Steve even when it was clear his friend was losing. The only time we see Tommy intervene is after Jonathan has Steve on the ground and is continuing to punch his face. That’s when Tommy grabs Jonathan and not even to attack him but to pull him off of Steve as he tells him HE’S HAD ENOUGH (STOP HITTING HIM YOU WON ITS DONE).
Steve’s ‘friends’ may not be nice people but it doesn’t necessarily mean in that moment they were bad people or even bad friends to Steve. Just something to consider that I don’t see from many reactors to ST. (Because yes this show is fun and absolutely spoils people who love analyzing characters and their motives)
Each season gets better, season 1 is just a taste

I personally hated season 3. I quit watching halfway thru and then forced myself to finish when i heard season 4 was so good. The best seasons are 1 and 4 imo I always skip season 3 on reaction channels.

He doesn't know Eleven's back story or her intentions. Guys, when watching this show, you have to look at what the characters know, not what you as a viewer can see 😂

He was skeptical of her from the beginning yes, but my comment is about their reaction to Lucas saying he was done with her and why he didn't want anything more to do with her. Again, he's a kid and does not know her. His skeptical reaction towards her and her powers are not abnormal. When she messed with the compasses and flung him backwards to where he got hurt, in his mind, his wariness about her was proven right. Jeez some of you act like it would be perfectly normal as a child to meet another child who barely talks and can control things with her mind and says she knows where your missing assumed dead friend is but won't actually tell you where he is. Good grief lol Yes we as viewers know what she's been through but the character of Lucas does not so he's supposed to just like her because his friends do or we the viewers do? I mean let's get real. i will say this is one of those things that people get caught up and empathizing with certain characters they don't realize that lucas has the most realistic response
i find this happens a fair amount in other series where a character gets upset and because of the shows lense or other characters get more attention so you only see their perspective you tend to not see their side
for example, i've seen games/shows about robot/ai where if a character doesn't approve they are horrible/racist etc. and everyone gets on that hate train but if irl we had actual robots and ai taking over jobs? you already see how people are against it and going crazy over it NOW and ai aren't even as advance
that's one example of the situation where a character gets a lot of flak for being the most realistic because a lot of times it's shown through an antagonistic lense but if you actually LOOK at the situation realistically and take of your lenses you see their point
a lot of people who consume media have a very black/white way of thinking tbh, a lot of times things are more complex than that
lucas has every right to be upset, to not immediately warm up to el... to be harmed and then say 'everything is alright' immediately after is a tv show notion, not realistic in the slightest
even finn who plays mike defends how lucas is in season one saying it's realistic and he relates the most to him
he literally plays mike and has to empathize with him and says that
i do think lucas is one of the more complex characters and because of that, he gets misunderstood a lot but that also makes him an EXCELLENT character
Steve was stupid and acting out in anger and hurt, but his feelings are justified even if his actions were not. He's a very well-written character. Even when he's doing dumb teenager stuff, you can understand exactly why he's doing those things, with the information he has.
The characters Johnathan and Nancy have been dating in real life for quite some time. ❤😊

This show is truly amazing, but there are some slight inconsistencies, such as how could Will get away from the creature by getting into the upside down, and why there was no blood (theories for that are he scraped his knee when his bike went off the road)
I think he just accidentally ran into the monster instead of attracting it with blood. And that’s why he’s able to hide from it.

@@lethalclips1234 The same way that Barb did when we saw her in the swimming pool? The impression I got was that the monster pulls its prey into the upside-down with it, but then seems prone to dropping it as soon as it gets there, causing it to need to grab its prey a second time in order to feed. Barb very nearly got away from it too in that swimming pool. If her hand hadn't been badly cut earlier in the evening, she might have succeeded in hauling herself out via the ladder, and if that had happened, who knows? Perhaps she could have escaped it long enough to find a hiding place too.

I believe Wills nose was bleeding before he was taken.
This is one of the most unbelievable scenes. It's unlikely the bullies would push this far but it's 100% certain Mike would have not walked off that cliff.
Still a great show, but this scene wouldn't have happened. This could have had the same climax they wanted with only a bit of rework.
I hated Johnathan lol. I also hated Steve. I found Johnathan to be the type of guy to do something weird to a girl with nobody was looking if he takes pictures of them from bushes when they are getting naked. Though he has grown on me that scene still weirds me out to this very day. That just is not ok nor normal.
