- Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver | ONE BIG PROBLEM!? In 2022 we have already seen two of the heavy weight golf brands release their new drivers.... are they going to be the best driver of 2022? the longest driver of 2022? the most forgiving driver go 2022? the best forgiving driver of 2022? the best mid handicap driver?Could it be the Taylormade Stealth? in this video I test the new Callaway Rogue ST Max driver. This is part of the new Callaway Rogue ST Driver family including the Max, the Callaway Rogue ST Max LS, Callaway Rogue ST Max D, Callaway Rogue ST Triple Diamond Ls... for me this is definitely going to be one of The best golf clubs of 2022... but there is ONE HUGE PROBLEM... Let's do it... and let's do it now!
Never understood why people take so much stock in how a club looks on the bottom when you never see it when the club is down next to the ball, if anything more emphasis should be placed on what it looks like on the ground. But that has nothing to do with performance. I really like that you talk about both though, very thorough. Thanks James
I’ve played the 2018 Rogue driver for a few years and really liked the control it gave me. Last year I bought the Epic Max looking for additional yardage but went back to the Rogue. When Callaway came out with the new Rogue ST Max this year I thought I’d give it a try. Well, I found my new club, great feel and sound and I am getting longer drives off the tee. I’m glad I gave this club a try it will definitely be in my bag for years to come.
This is the best looking driver I've seen in ages. I normally hate the look of Calloway drivers but I love the matt finish and simple classic design.
This is a great driver, just got mine a couple days ago and it fantastic. Only problem is, it does not come with a tool to adjust but fortunately for me I have one.
@@a.g.1832 i got a wrench with mine when i bought it. Weird you didn't get one
I just bought one after hitting titleist and ping to compare ..the forgiveness and 25 yards extra sold me ..oh and a great fitting from the at #deboursgolfshop edmonton ab
Colours look fine with me , better than the green they used in previous years
Six inches of snow fell here in Pennsylvania last night. Won't be playing anytime soon so I'll live vicariously thru your video
Ugh I feel you
I game the GBB Epic sub-zero and have tested every year of callaway drivers and find no need to change unless the face cracks or the carbon top comes off(happened to a friends regular epic). Enjoy your videos every day. Cheers from very snowy British Columbia Canada
Beat the crap out of it as long as possible.Who can buy the latest driver every year??Get your money out of the old one first..
Not the most beautiful in your eyes maybe.
I think the matt finish looks awesome. I wish more brands would do that. I know Cobra has some aswell
I just put this Rogue driver in the bag after watching countless reviews and it's been a game changer. Had the Epic Max Ls for a bit and enjoyed it but mis-hits really took a toll. Switched to the ping g425 max and again a solid driver but couldn't get over the sound! This Rogue Max is awesome paired with the Tensei Blue shaft which is supposedly a mid spin shaft but my spin number went down quite a bit from any other driver even with custom shafts I had. Finding fairways consistently over any other driver. Maybe it's more mental now I enjoy this driver the most but truly an awesome release from Callaway! Awesome review and enjoy yours over most. Keep it up!
Wow that's exactly what I just bought ..same shaft to ..iam sssooo pleased with it ..can't wait till it gets here👍
Hi James
I do like your channel.. but the title was one big problem.. I watch the whole thing and am confused as you haven’t said what the problem is. I am about to pick up my new callaway rogue so thought I would watch it but I am none the wiser mate !
I'm going to keep using my Mavrik Sub Zero in 2022. Great video.
I have an older Rogue Driver and I am seriously considering investing in one of the Max St's for this season.
I’m a fan of the colors on the Rogue ST but I like and own a couple Mavrik clubs.
Thanks for the review James. I think I’ll be playing my Ping G410 Plus this year. I haven’t found a driver that performs better.
Another great video, what's happened to the Huddersfield indoor test facility?
I actually put this driver in my bag this year a couple of months ago and I love it
First. I think the Callaway and the Taylormade are classy. I just hate the red clubface. Why? lol
Honestly, I like this driver's look when compared to my current driving club - the BB Epic
Big put off for me is the colour il be sticking with my epic max great video again james
Great driver! Really nice looking. Zero distance difference. And the price point is a real downer. The forgiveness factor isn't enough to offset the price point. The new Cobras are supposed to do just as well at a much better price point. How about a review of them?
I don't mind the colors on the Rogue and prefer it over the lime green on the Epic Max line which I currently game. Had to go the custom route. As for Taylormade, I'm loving the look of the new Stealth models but can't stand the feel or performance I get with their drivers. Who knows, maybe this one will be different.
Hi James. Really enjoy your content.
Regarding the Rogue St Max going left. What about lie angle.
That drivers standard lie angle is 60 degrees the Rogue st Ls is 57 degrees.
Big difference and little wonder it goes left more easily at 45.75 inches long.
The Taylor Made stealth give the golfer a choice of a 56 or 60 degrees lie angle at stated loft.
That for me is one of the biggest differences between the two clubs.
I actually think the callaway looks quite understatedly classy in a positive way. Just wish these manufacturers would go with classier names, I mean ROGUE, STEALTH, MAVERIK! Straight out of a marvel movie. Saying that it's better than being called BIG BERTHA 😂. Another little niggle of mine is the classy headcover ruined with large "1" emblazoned on it. Moaning over now! Looks like you'll be having a good new year James with your new toys! 😄
I went with the LS and it added 20 yards to my average over the max and the Taylormade I was swinging. Great feel
If I wasn't gaming an Epic Max LS from 2021 I'd be all over the new Rogue LS model. I played the original Rogue in 2018 and absolutely loved it.
Stay with the Sim 2. Best driver, personally, I've seen you hit. Keep up the great work sir!
Nice review….even better you didn’t mention the word ‘lipstick’ to describe the pin striping detail on the crown. Not sure why but I hate that choice of word. Well done. 👍🏼
Also on really cold days you should tell us what the Temperature is. I know when it drops below 40 Degree's in the US I don't play because can't get a feel when hitting.
I just bought a like new used Cobra Speed Zone Extreme for $180. I'm sure it's no better than my Cobra F6+ or any worse than the new drivers coming out. Every once in awhile I just have to buy something newer, but just not for $600.
If you were going to spend $600 it would make more sense for a whole set of irons instead of one club.
Or a putter, way more important.
I can't agree with your comment about the looks of the ST, for me it looks extremely classy. I found the previous Callaway drivers way too flashy and cheap looking, but this for me is spot on. It reminds me of an improved version of the PING G400MAX, with a better sound and without the dreaded turbulators. If it's as forgiving as the G400MAX then it's going to be a great option for anyone looking to upgrade their driver.
Another awesome honest review James, my Sim 2 will be staying in the bag for this season then hopefully upgrade next season
Thanks for the review but it’s one of the best looking drivers I’ve ever seen
Really good review James. Well done!
Great driver line ups coming from Callaway and Taylormade. Very good video James
What Color do you prefer lime green?
It would feel like I'm in disneyland if I could get 269 average
Great video James
It think I would be going against my name if I didn't get the MAX 😊
Nope this is the best driver ever. Love love love it
DEER me, that first one was bombed!! 🦌
No complaints about the look. In fact, I think it looks great. Just bought a SIM 2 MAX during the summer so, lookin' is the most I can do. 🙅♂
I will be getting the LS as well. If I played a fade bias I would play the triple diamond. I think you can’t go wrong with either. If it’s a little better than the epic speed then it should be a great driver. Long off tee, fast, and forgiving
Think you’re bonkers for not liking the looks, it’s a million times better then the last couple of monstrosities they’ve released recently.
Much prefer it to the stealth too, that looks a little bit like it’s out of a kinder egg.
Also maybe there is something to Jack Hamms hammerx shaft. The driver was bust. But the idea of a aerodynamic shaft might be something. To keep head movement to a minimum. That was one thing I wanted to try on a regular driver.
I will say Callaway Jailbreak tech does seem to deliver the most CONSISTENT distance results on off-center hits of any current driver on the market. The distance wars are effectively OVER. Callaway need to do a better job of selling the advantage they have… which will actually help most golfer’s games.
I've owned a £75 budget driver for about 10 years and although my driving is not bad, I thought I'd better replace it with a new hi-tech one. On the launch monitor in a well-known golf retailer, I tried my driver against some of the newest ones on the market and there was really no appreciable difference, certainly (as the very honest sales person told me) not one worth spending £300-£400 for. The look and sound of a driver means nothing to me: until I find one that really does perform noticeably better than my basic driver, I don't think I'll fall for the annual marketing hype.
Looks are very much personal. I love the looks. The taylormade stealth looks very cheap and plastic, especially the crown. Plus twist face certainly doesn't work for me. Ill stick with my g400
It’s super important to establish a following for products and that is hard to do when you change the name each season. This driver isn’t aimed at the Epic customer. Their replacement comes on alternate years. Or at least that’s what I see from their product cycles
I do like to change drivers, it's a bit of a fixation for me, lol. My observation is that the performance only actually improves every 2-3 years. Using TM as the example, I felt like the M5 was an amazing driver but the original SIM wasn't as good and it was a pretty major shift in tech for them. In the year that followed, they developed the SIM2 which I think is a far better driver than the SIM and a reasonable upgrade from the M5 in the performance of the twist face tech and the face-port injectable foam. That said, the shift to the Stealth is a big tech change for TM. I will likely stick with the SIM2 this year and look at what they do with the Stealth in '23. Watching your and other guys reviews of the Stealth, I don't see a big jump from SIM2 to it. If anything, it's the same in performance or a bit behind in certain aspects. I'd guess the same would be true of the Callaway product, Titleist, Ping, etc. Big tech changes don't typically lead to big performance changes right away, it takes at least one more year of development and tweaking.
Great review but yet again no talk about what shaft you’re using. The head is just a part of the driver. The shaft is what generates the power to make the head hit the ball as with the person making the swing. It’s a combination of all three not just the fancy driver head.
i agree i dont like the fact they use the same names and just add like ST to the end
If I was in the market for a new driver I would give this a look , the Taylormade Stealth in my eyes looks horrendous and cheap Think this looks much more classy
I agree, the Stealth does look cheap and nasty. Furthermore it feels dead and provides little or no feedback.
Im normally Titleist through and through but this is a lovely looking club at address, Horrendous head cover though. Do agree the name is terrible. How far right are you aiming at 7.00!!!!
It does not go any longer than last years offering but it is better on off centre hits? Surely better to say with what I've been fitted for and spend £100 on lesson to improve my swing
Been using the 2020 SIM MAX all year. After using a SIM2 MAX, I was only getting about another 4-5 yards more versus my SIM, Ive decided that $579 US is TOO MUCH MONEY, and i can use this money for my membership fees instead.
Ive been playing since 1986, inspired by Jack winning the MASTERS that year. Over the years ive seen more people benefit from working on short game and putting. It IS where you lose the most strokes.
I actually think it's one of the best looking driver ever made. Wish the tripple diamond went all out with a smaller head size just to give us something actually different.
But…it is. 450cc.
See, I really like the colours tbh, this is the personal taste thing we always go on about haha!
Hahaa fair play David
100% So much nicer than the Stealth
not bad, I doubt I'll change anytime soon. I'm really not seeing any improvement since the BB B21 from Callaway tbh. Still love it and feel comfortable on the tee with it
Much prefer the look of the Callaway Rogue St.
I have the Max D. Only driver that actually turned my fade to a small draw
I love the look! It’s all subjective at the end of the day though.
Do like your reviews James, I'm continuing with the Epic flash sub zero, can't really justify a new driver especially when I need some new wedges and irons 👍
Cracked the face on my Epic Flash Sun Zero last week. Hope that doesn’t happen to yours 🤙
Good morning, James. ☕️
Thank you for another, informative video James. I'm currently planning on new Irons this season. But it's still great to know about the current drivers and what I should look and watch for. Also, hear is a question for you. Which driver is the most muted current driver on the market? I've been wondering about PXG. But the new Callaway does sound good. Just curious. Keep up the great work, Cheers!
😅
Anybody else wake up and think.. “I need to brush my teeth. Let’s do it, and let’s do it now” 🤣
Dang …. That was pretty funny!
Probably now, for the rest of my life.
Haha I turned this video on and saw your comment, as I started brushing my teeth haha 😄
No
@@michaelrood2751 good to know 😅
I really like the looks of that driver
The colors of theses drivers are so subjective. I love this color scheme and hate the look of the new Stealth with the red face. You are completely opposite lol and that is okay. I’m glad all these brands are making them custom to the buyer
🔥🔥🔥
Really looking forward to a test of the Rogue LS.. However, with the prices that Callaway and TM are putting out there these days, I'll stick with my trusty M6 until it breaks.
Prices are so high for a new driver. Cobra and Mizuno have better pricing and performance for the most golfers is probably unnoticeable.
@@ph5937 Cobra is coming out with something new - there is a prototype developed with Dechambeau that is apparently completely revolutionary, and preliminary tests with him and Berkshire were impressive - 210mph ball speeds with a lateral dispersion that was less than 20yds even at those speed.
@@christianvachon2235 Dispersion is where it's at. With the R&A and USGA limitations (which i'm not entirely against), I don't see anything really helping my distance dramatically and certainly not worth paying north of $500 bucks for. Now, if you tell me you've developed a driver that can legitimately decrease the effects of offline strikes... I'd listen.
@@raebo1968 I agree, and Cobra is precisely going for that, and in a test even with Dechambeau and Berkshire at insane ball speeds, they were on the fairway. Here is a video of the whole testing process, but the part where Dechambeau explains it:
ua-cam.com/video/br2x3RkfzGM/v-deo.html
I cued it there at the explanation, but the whole video is worth watching as they test his old "normal" driver before.
@@christianvachon2235 if all that is true.. Take My Money! Hahaha
Wedges and Putter video please. Thanks James in advance.
I love the new callaway
Looks great I think
Because of the high cost of drivers and I am splitting fairways with my Sim Ti, along with the simple fact they can not make them any more pop and still be legal, I won't need to drop over a half grand on one. Shafts are the motor that gives the power. And the consistent dispersion. And for me there is a sacrifice. For dispersion, I need a stable shaft that will not torque [twist] as much when hit off center. Nor will it flex in a way that effects loft and lie. And the more stable the shaft the less kick. So I give up distance for dispersion. And no two shafts are the same until you get into the high dollar shafts where they perform consistently. Then there is spine alignment. Fitting says this shaft or that in this head or that so you go buy them and they perform completely differently. So you just have to keep stabbing shafts until you find that magical one. And that may never happen. And if you do, and you buy the same exact shaft and set it up exactly the same, it most likely will not be as magical. So I am going to invest in shafts this year. Then if your swing changes, you have to start all over. So for beginners working their way up and taking lessons, you will need different shafts as you get more on plane with more speed. I have my swing where I want it so I am going to try and fine tune the shafts. So far the Ventus Velocore works the best for me in Drivers and Fairways. But their are many high end shafts I haven't tried yet. The Fujikura Speeder Pro gives me the best distance but the dispersion isn't quite good enough. I have a R flex that I can get well over 300 yards occasionally but it is all over the place. The shaft is far more important than the heads. If you have had the opportunity to swap through several shafts in the same head, you know what I am talking about. If you haven't, you need to try it. Then there is swing weight and lie angles. People adjust the tips on their drivers and don't even know that it effects other things besides loft and direction. It also changes the spine alignment. Some high end shafts are made well enough that there is no detectable spine, and Callaway tips don't change the shaft orientation. I wish the TM tips were like that. I have found one shaft in my search thus far that finds the middle of the face almost every time yet robs me 20 yards. But it also consistently splits the fairway. It will only do that on one setting on the sleeve. So it is complicated and beyond our abilities with the tools we have at our disposal. Because there are just way to many variables even with the same makes and models. When you get a consistent swing going it becomes easier but even then you are going to have bad swing days and have to know when you are so don't mis judge a shaft you are testing that day. Take lessons, dial in that swing and hunt down the magic shaft and the swing weight that works best for you. A perfect example of this mess is to look at a lot of pros. These problems are even worse with a 3 wood as they are less forgiving and require a lot more precision because you have to hit them off the deck. Pros often have several year old 3 woods in their bag because it has that magic they can't find in the newer more advanced models. It's in the shafts folks. And spine alignment will help you find that magic one a lot faster or get as close as humanly possible. For me putting the spine (the stiffest side of the shaft) facing the target line works the best for consistent dispersion loft and spin. There are cheap bearing type spine finders that are easy to use that can be had online. They work great and make a huge difference. Having the tools to extract shafts from heads and sleeves and the epoxy to glue shafts saves a lot money. It's not hard once you learn how to do it. It's a rabbit hole but it is very rewarding. Also, cheap range balls teach you nothing but the initial direction your ball is starting on. So if your range doesn't have decent ball, don't waist time testing there. I test on the course with my brand of balls. I find an opening on the course ahead of a slow group and hit several shots. Changing sleeve settings. On a course I know so I can see the distances compared to where I normally hit. Or you can find a place that lets you return drivers until you find a good one. Then just hope you find the magic that way. The best driver I have ever had was bought at the Price Club, now Cosco. I hit that thing 320 to 340 all the time. It was not consistent but who cares when your bombing freakish long drives. It was stolen and I replaced it and with the exact same driver. Lucky to get 300. And that has remained the case for 12 years. Happy now with 270/280 down the middle. And occasional 300. Weather and fairway run dependent.

Thats some proper adult music, playing in the background.
I’ll still be using my Epic Flash with a Tensei Blue regular shaft.
I'm the same set up as yourself love the epic but I do like the look of the rogue driver
I need a comparison of the max ls vs epic max ls
I can't wait to the Stealth 3 LS driver in 2025. I'll be 54 and believe I will hit it even longer in my mind. 3 putt first green.
Good vid James, looks like the slight draw bias isn’t helping you 😁 Looking at potentially getting this, and really like the look of it (not a fan of the Stealth crown at all).
I'm very interested in the stealth review and I wonder about it's durability.
I bought a Rogue ST Max Driver after testing it against another driver on November 24, 2023. After two weekends...the shaft broke at the center. Went back to Dicks. They referred me to Callaway customer service. Customer service was really helpful. They sent me a new shaft within a week. They said they wouldn't charge me if I sent the broken one back within a month. Installed the new 5.0 shaft on Friday. Took it out to play Saturday... and it broke again almost at the same place, after only two drives! I am by no means a big hitter. I am 59 and hit between 180-200 yards on average. This is absurd!
That’s strange. Which shaft? I’ve had mine for a while and the shaft is TENSEI AV Blue 65 stiff. Luckily I have had no issues.
Love for you to do a comparison with Rogue ST and Mavrik since this is direct replacement from Callaway. Is it really any better. $200 worth of Improvement?
The two dogs do the exact same thing my two do when I swing the clubs in the front yard. :-)
Between the two I will take the Stealth and since you can get different colors for the face I would just get a black face for it
Every year I test new drivers against my Epic Flash SZ and haven't found anything that can beat it yet.
Considering Mizuno already use ST in the model names, is it a poor marketing call?
I would love to see a review of the Rogue ST Triple Diamond LS - The triple diamond was formerly a tour only offering/tour parts, and is the newer version of the driver that Jon Rahm used in 2020 (it was a special edition Epic Speed Triple Diamond LS). If I was going for a new driver, that might be it.
The only thing appealing about the TM is the tech.
Golfalot has a review of the Triple Diamond LS on her channel.
@@j.w.matney8390 Thanks! I will check it out!
Personally, I think the gold is super sweet !
What was the cost of a new driver
Am I the only one that thinks it is beautiful and look so nice, I really want this driver
I think it looks great. But I've got the Stealth coming on 4th February
Can see you broke it in prior to shooting..still had a little mud in the paint!
It looks nice but alas it doesn’t say Ping on it, however, they (Callaway) seem to be copying Ping with a Max and LST etc
@James, how does fitting work when you get demo clubs?
Oh and ball - 2021 Chrome soft vs LX is about a 20% reduction on spin, but I am sure you knew that. What I am expecting, is that the AI optimised the 2022 ball characteristics..... Help push you to those £/$50 a box balls.
Stay with my Cobra F8 Superlite - as it is a Fairway finder :)
Well they have had jail break for a while, how about the "Fugitive " line?
Looks better than taylormade
Certainly interested in the Rogue ST LS… will be trying it out next week with our Pro.
Dang it James, it's 16° Fahrenheit here in Ohio 😠😠
Looks better than the taylor made
i think the 1 on the head cover is a deal breaker
You missed it James, could have been Sunday dinner!
Would be interesting to see if there are any differences in the numbers from this new ST driver from the older Rogue driver. My guess is little to none and this is mostly marketing.
As for sound, if I could hit it 300 yards and straight, I wouldn’t care if it honked like a goose.
The price? Is that the big problem
Smashes driver... FENTON!!!
Hahahahaha best comment of 2022
@@JamesRobinsonGolf haha excellent. Love the content. Definitely one or two clubs you've recently reviewed are going to end up in my bag at some point. Cheers!
My current driver is a original rogue (draw version) so was looking forward to this years editions.
The colour looks good to me, don’t see the fuss, be interesting to see what your thoughts are in comparison to previous years models, is it really worth the extra cash??
Definitely worth the price! Get it!
@@a.g.1832 still considering it!
Like it but them saving money on the prints on everything associated with this line by reusing the other should go to us who buy the products.
Ps I did well with the original rogue sub zero so want to for sure try this one
Driver of the year and it ain't close
