Road side assistance is cheap. My phone has WiFi. If I crash, 100 other drivers in the road will be calling 911. My dashboard gives me vehicle information or I can use my ODB reader. If OnStar was cheaper more average joes like me would use it but 50 bucks a month is a lot for rarely used features.
I ripped the antenna off and removed the compass transducer after about three months of receiving postcards from the dealer. I don’t need to be tracked or told when to service my vehicle.
They send you the postcards to service your vehicle whether you have onstar star or not…. “Your Cadillac needs service!” They have no idea, they are fishing
How often does anyone come across such bad events. Its like a chance of being struck by lightning And in the case of a person needing help. I never needed to push a button I just helped and bypassed any bs. If they needed more help than i could give. Id find a way to bring it. Who wouldn’t?.
It also tracks your driving style and forwards it to your insurance.. which can cause your rates to go up if it shows your a reckless driver.. hard breaks, fast starts etc etc
I don't allow companies to freely spy on me, collecting as much data as possible, there is absolutely no way in hell that I am going to pay a company to invade my privacy, and steal my data!!!
Imagine this: On Star, the superhero of car tech! It does everything your phone can do, and guess what? No need for acrobatics like reaching up to push buttons while driving. It's like having a personal assistant that doesn't play hard to get. Just sit back, relax, and let On Star be your car's very own stand-up comedian.
What about all the behind the scenes stuff that you’re not mentioning? Everything you said, for the most part can be done through our cell phones. You said all the things that benefit the customer, what about all of the things that benefit GM and the insurance companies?
How do you connect to the wi-fi in your gmc car , thanks also is there different turn by turn or map available as I tried it snd I am used to my google maps showing street names snd street stop lights which helps me look ahead of where I am going . I found the on star map not as detailed what do you think thanks
I've been driving for 15+ yrs and never needed a service like this.. This is another way for a company to make money. This is for people who seriously are high-risk drivers always getting tickets, and hitting stuff.
I just bought a Cadillac, and the Salesman pushed some Buttons and an OnStar Sales Rep was suddenly annoying me with a Hard Sell Bullshit. After repeatedly telling her I wasn't interested, and continued pushiness from her I yelled F*** O** I am not interested, not now, nor ever in the Future, so don't ever contact me again, as I will no longer be nice and Polite. Next Day I'm getting Phone calls for some useless Radio Stations, again with the F.O. and don't bother me again. I remember my earlier Caddys have these same Useless Features. At least on the STS I was able to gain access to the Mike Wires and Cut them. I wonder if there is a way to cut the Onstar connections but still have the Phone Working. If not, I will still cut them, and just put my phone in my Shirt Pocket on Handsfree, like I have been doing so since 2009. I wonder if pulling a Fuse will shut that Crap off
First, I would say, be your own first responder. Second, I would say to stop relying on on someone else to provide you services if you have the capacity to learn how to do it yourself. With the easy access of information and the portability to fit in your pocket, there is absolutely no need for OnStar. OnStar should be optional on these vehicles, and the fact that some of us want it out, should have the option to do so.
I had On Star for a couple of years or so and my Cadillac, CTS, until the On Star module quit working mounted on the trunk side wall. And then GM dealer wanted about $500 to replace it! Lol I said no way forget it and I haven’t had On Star in my car recess which is probably been 2 1/2 years ago or so. I’ve never missed it for a second. Lol if they were to replace their own faulty, On Star module for free I probably would still have it and be paying for it today. But when they tried to rape me for about 500 bucks to replace a module and one of their cars that quit working well that’s where I drew the line. No more On Star nonsense for me! Lol
I just bought a GM vehicle two weeks ago. They’ve been on my ass to press the little blue button. They say that it needs to be done to complete the transaction and I can cancel it anytime. I’ve never given them my credit card in order to charge anything. Why do they need me to activate it so bad and then disconnect it? They also said that GM requires them to do this. Why? Any old GM sales reps out there that want to be honest with us here? No offense to the guy that’s posting this OnStar review but he’s worked for Jim a long time so I’m not expecting to get 100% truth and transparency.
Ya I'm looking for reviews I rather trust an employee trashing on Star then promoting it all he said was I used it to report an accident and call the cops like we don't have cellphones to do that
can anybody help i have a used 2009 saturn that can with a onstar packet, i'm trying to see how to activate is it free or do i have to pay to activate it/
Lmao bro cant be bothered to reach for his phone when someone is dying. Its gotta be onstar. He actually believes it quicker than just hitting sos on your phone for free. Bro your calling a middle man corporation who makes money from accidents.
I’m assuming if you’re driving a brand new vehicle you can afford a modern cell phone tell me something that OnStar can do that an iPhone or a Google phone cannot do ? Modern cell phone can call 911 modern cell phone can give you your location. What is the need for OnStar?
I'm looking into Onstar because my cell phone doesn't have INTERNET in USA (as I'm going from Canada to S. Carolina) need GPS (or I can go old school and use a Map ) But really I need internet on the road
Well, with out any tinkering to hardware, nor software, OnStar can lock you inside of your vehicle, while your cell phone is unable to perform such a feat straight out of the box. That there alone has a monthly value worth at least fifty dollars!
Fixing when he said he was driving and he saw an accident and he pushed this little blue button and they used his location to bring first responders I get if you don't want to be the first responder because you know you don't have the skills or whatever but there's this thing that's been invented for a long time it's called a cell phone and you can use that to call the 911 You can actually say hey Google or whatever and it will call 911 for you I mean that first excuse was not really a good one
OnStar has so many features and functions, it is truly a multi-faceted device: it spies on you via the microphone, and your GPS location, it can disable your vehicle's engine and make it incapable of being restarted, and then it can lock the driver, and all the passengers within the vehicle.

Yes I was going to get it until I saw the price.
It’s a convenient product to have but it’s waaay to expensive!
I ripped the antenna off and removed the compass transducer after about three months of receiving postcards from the dealer. I don’t need to be tracked or told when to service my vehicle.
Make a video on that!
Peter yet, Don't buy GM.
They send you the postcards to service your vehicle whether you have onstar star or not…. “Your Cadillac needs service!” They have no idea, they are fishing
Mick Foley endorses OnStar
Can you explain how to get a monthly diagnosis of my truck

No, it doesn’t
50 bucks a month is a HUGE no no
I don't allow companies to freely spy on me, collecting as much data as possible, there is absolutely no way in hell that I am going to pay a company to invade my privacy, and steal my data!!!
You get unlimited data included in that price,
So does my phone...
That's literally for premium which if you can't afford 50 a month I doubt your vehicle can use that plan
@@fotografotimido Good for a tavelling sale person i'm Guessing??? not many of them left either with online shopping.

OnStar is a great feature. Love knowing if my tire is flat before hand. And I never fear getting locked out 😊

Well stated 🖖
Absolutely! I wish i knew where its located in ny 2021 Sierra 1500 elevation
Id remove it completely! Without remorse
The only thing onstar has over diy is when you are disabled in an accident and can't diy. I still won't pay extra for it. But I have to give it that.
IOS and Android will detect crashes and falls and will call 911 in those types of events automatically.
If you want to be your own responder know your correct location and do not panic with 911 because that helps no one.
I don't like travelling with a spy in the car. I physically disconnected the system.
This did not sale me on buying on star again I could call on my cellphone and hey can use that to find my location that's wild

You cannot use it any longer if your vehicle is under a 2016. My GMC is a 2014. I miss being able to use it for directions.

We just bought a car. The dealer told me I have activated it by tomorrow or he won't get pay. Have you gotten any answers yet?
Now We Need To Talk About Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge/Ram U-Connect!
(IT'S WAY WORSE & WAY MORE EXPENSIVE)
Onstar will shut you car down if its stolen and track it ..great benifit if you have a car or muscle car likely to get stolen
can anybody help i have a used 2009 saturn that can with a onstar packet, i'm trying to see how to activate is it free or do i have to pay to activate it/
Your vehicle is no longer supported for OnStar Services. Your vehicle runs on a 2G system which is no longer supported
On⭐️star
Lol this is an ad
Do you not have a cell phone
Your cell phone can't detect if you got into a car crash and it doesn't know if you're hurt in your car and can't reach the phone.

@dirtwarrior1997 not all the time what if ur cellphone was updating during the time of a crash?

Nope. There are plenty of other ways to stay safe and/or help others that don't require a monthly subscription. Change my mind.
