240i is savage, but I can guarantee that the Eventuri and cat back ALONG the tuning box has unlocked a couple of extra horses and definitely costs more than £500.

That 240i launches like a rocket
The G80 xdrive launches just as hard. The driver of the G80 wasn't doing a proper launch control (no attempt at launch control at 6:24) and he was paddle shifting as opposed to letting the computer do its job, like the M240 driver did perfectly.
@@anix9549 the g42 leaves way harder than the g80 does and the b58 has 5mm of stroke on the s58, theyre just faster. I havent lost to a single M car yet in my bolt on m240i. my 60' are down in the 1.49 on the street and the g80s are barely doin that on the track.

Two amazing cars for sure. The m3 tuned is an absolute beast but man for way less $ you can get similar results in that 240. With the insane markups that I am sure dealers are doing on every m3 i doubt you will see one less than 100k. Could be wrong.

Well let's face it we don't buy these cars for 1/4 mile times, we buy them for the overall experience wether that's a 50k or 100k car. Nice that's there's options for ppls budgets. both lovely both respond well to a stage 1 map. Once I'm done with my m2c 530bhp I'll be getting that m3comp xdrive and having a stage 1 on it. most M fans will end up owning both of these sometime during their life.

To be fair a bit of a dead end drag , the M3 even on the first drag was only brake boosting , you could tell even then he couldn’t get launch activated , if launch was up and working the m3 would have taken the win all round, still all about a proper “M” motor 👌🏻

Like others have said, not taking anything away from the MLite as it is clearly very rapid when launched by someone on his game, but it's flattered here by some poor M3 launching. Even the RWD G80 manages 11.6 quarters. Interesting comparison, but outcome is influenced more by driver than machine.
True but in real world conditions with your average driver it shows wht could happen.
Yeah if you can launch it. A lot of m cars have issues with launch control (as seen in the video)

The m3 is faster in everything but not by mutch, the only reason it lost here is because of the drivers launch. The car is only as fast as its driver. 240i still a beast
Agreed 100% We own a new M240i and a new M3CX. While the M240i is a great car, the M3 has it hands down. He came in at 11.8? My fastest run thus far has been a 10.97, with our 240 coming in at 12.1 both in pretty mediocre DA. To me, looks like the driver wasn't holding on the brakes hard enough to engage it. Even with the box, shouldn't have an issue in the M3.

I ran a Automatic 2023 Tuned M240 with my stock 2022 G80 6MT. It was super random. Dude rolled up on me at 60 MPH I think. 3 beeps he jumped out and let off at about 110 MPH - I guess thats a win for the M240.
I'm waiting for BMW to build my M240i and what I take from this comparison is that I'm getting some serious bang for my buck. I know it's a high spec car to get it over £100k, but is that M3 really twice as good? I'm really looking forward to getting the underdog!!
Take your spare £57k and put some of it under the bonnet and you'll muller any 3 series.

Yo that M240i launches like a bat outta hell. When the M240i ECU gets cracked it’s gonna be a serious problem.
The driver of the G80 wasn't properly launching it. I own a G80 in Germany, I daily drive it and know it so well. He fucked that all up. You can even see a 6:24 he didn't even attempt a launch control, he just went at go. The other guy in the 240i was fully prepared for launch at go. Also the driver of the G80 was paddle shifting as opposed to letting the G80 do the absolute best performance it can all automated, like the other driver did.

Why buy an M3 at that price apart from the 4 doors? The M240 is a brilliant car and with only a simple remap can produce 410hp and doesn’t go wrong like its big brother.
A bit of a silly question - which would I prefer - this comparison shows the bang-for-buck available from just an ECU remap and a change of manifold, so I'd have the M240i.
However...ask the same question about a comparison at higher BHP levels with one car in 'stock' and the other needing comprehensive uprating and then you get the uncertainty factor over the reliability / dependability of the aftermarket mods.
Obviously the S58 in the m4 can handle more power if you tuned it. But the B58 is a reliable i6 that can handle way more than it should. I don’t think 450hp is over stressing it. And 500hp should be reliable with proper cooling.

Fascinating. The M240i ran virtually almost stock numbers on the 100-200 at 9s. Stock is 10 seconds. It was so close to the M3. Get the M240i a proper ECu tune, and it will change the results. Love both cars😍
Doubt it’s do 10.00 stock. A stock M140 rwd will do 11.5-.11.9 100-200 new one stock would be closer to 10.9 - 11.00

GOOD races. But let's be honest...M3 is a solid 11.1-11.3 qtr mile time stock. Guy isn't building boost or engaging LC at launch. That M3 simply needs a driver MOD...
It has nothing to do with the driver, it’s because you now have to drive the car for a minimum of 6 miles or it won’t engage…wasn’t anywhere to drive tbf

That tuning box is so worth it
It's really not. Don't ever cheap out on tuning. Get a full custom ECU tune or at least an OTS from the likes of bootmod. Tuning boxes have been proven to be rubbish
They can be hit and miss. For the same amount of money you can get a full custom tune on a dyno that's tailored to your car and mods. I'd say the only time a tuning box is worth it is if your car is standard and you don't want to void the warranty.

BMW and Audi seriously up their game in terms of launch on the awd systems. The way the RS3 and M240i launch. Previous RS3 already launched fast, the A45s launched faster and then the new RS3 just gets that gap at the start and keeps it until you get at higher speeds. But the M240i, also launches hard and if BMW didn't screw things up to obey the EU to much, it has quite the tuning potential. Cause more and more cars are getting difficulties to tune properly, without having to do all sorts of stuff to push a bit more out of it.

Dude xdrive makes 100% the difference it's basically a Tesco cheap goods way of getting off the line with 100% of the power put on thr ground. The m3 xdrive will DESTROY EVEN A TUNED M240i. Also m240i new one is so ugly. It's a disgrace to the look of the beautiful 2015 m235i I had and the m2 comp. New ones are hideous

Showing my age hear.... but back in the 90,s (poormans performance cars) it was cheeper to buy and insure a ford orion 16i ghia than it was the xr3i, (same engine) money saved buy either a Kent camshaft or down draft twin 40,s good bye xr3i, love the underdogs😂

I feel like a lot of people are missing the point. The M240 is a tremendous performance car value. Of course the M3 is faster but this is comparing an “M lite” car to a full fledged M car and at the very least it’s close in performance. These seconded generation “M Lite” cars are no joke. The first gen just had better motors. These are full fledged M cars. Every facet of the M240 has been tweaked by M. It has the M sport differential, M suspension, M brakes. If you look on the BMW website now they list these cars under M. In their sales figures they now include the “M lite” with the M cars. These are now full M cars just like the “43” AMG is a real AMG. No one says it’s not an AMG because it’s not the “63”. I own an M340 and have loved it. I was set on getting the new M2. After driving the M240 (and seeing the M2 styling but that is a whole different conversation ) I cancelled my M2 order. For 99% of people this car will give you all the “M Performance” you will ever need. I also maintain that if you blindfolded even the biggest M car die hard and had them drive this car they would guess it was a “real” M car

Insult to injury, the B58 will yield better MPGs, not like gas prices matter to people that buy these cars, but still, it's funny. BMW would be wise to give Toyota access to the S-series engines as well to have them work their magic on them evaluation and recommendation wise. Now we just need to have BMW get better chassis engineers to control the weight, and better styling designers. The Toyota Supra is still the best pure M-car you can buy today.
