..... a label like @24:48 "Northbound Amtrak #____ at Norwalk Blvd crossing (foreground) and Los Nietos Road crossing (background)." Not too far from where I grew up.
If AMTRAK's long route were double tracked, a set of rail for each direction of travel, the system speed could increase from less than 30mph to almost 80mph. Presently oncoming trains must be side-tracked to get opposing trans past each other, lots of time spent waiting, lots of time spent stopping and restarting. Double tracking would speed freight delivery as well. The present single rail system, when heavily loaded, will cause AMTRAK trains to be so far off schedule that crew operating time limits will force the train to re-crew mid-trip; a long wait on a side track for arrival of the new crew.
I rode on Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner to Oxnard on 5/27/2017 to visit & also sightsee at the same time. The trip was great. I arrived in Oxnard on time. I then rode Gold Coast Tansit bus route 6 to Victoria Blvd & Moon Drive, I got to see some old historical buildings in Downtown Oxnard, one of which is the Woolworth Building that had the Woolworth's red sign with gold letters on it, also the Carnige art building as well. Riding the Pacific Surfliner to Oxnard, then taking the Gold Coast Transit buses you can have a good sightseeing tour. I visited my daughters grave in Ivy Lawn Cemetary in Ventura, then I returned to Oxnard on Gold Coast Transit bus route 6, I showed my Amtrak ticket to the bus driver and got a refund when the bus driver if you show your Amtrak ticket you don't have to pay the Gold Coast Transit bus fare. I enjoyed my day trip to Oxnard on Amtrak & riding Gold Coast Transit talking to other passengers on the bus, and returned to San Diego on the Pacific Surfliner, then the San Diego trolley to the Chula Vista E Street trolley Station. I have traveled a total of 28 times on Amtrak since 1/31/1974 and will be riding Amtrak more often when I'm home in the San Diego area. All of my trips to Los Angeles & Oxnard when I'm in the San Diego area will be on Amtrak's Pacific Surfliners & Metrolink commuter trains and the San Diego trolley and Gold Coast transit bus route 6.
That is awesome!!! Those horn quills are the part of old Amtrak locomotives and NCPU F40s that I miss. I also miss the F40PHM-2C locomotives on the coaster. I definitely will miss their F59phi locomotives.
its an excellent video, that for sure! Though it might be that all the footage from this video was shot over the course of multiple days. Its quite hard for a single track to have such a busy schedule, especially when there are freight trains involved of like 2 kilometers long
Nice to see the real Amtrak F59 #450 at 2:39 and Genesis #156 at 9:20. I just purchased an "O" scale MTH Amtrak F59 #450 and last year a Williams "O" scale Genesis #156 with the same anniversary livery. It is great to see the real trains in action knowing I have replicas of history.
Nothing really. They are just going to LAUPT(Union Station) from the Central Maintenance Facility Taylor yard as a double set where they will split off to where they are needed. Happens a lot during the week.

The locomotive is at the other end of the train, pushing rather than pulling. As for why, it's because Union Station in Los Angeles, which is the biggest passenger station in SoCal by far and which pretty much all of the passenger trains in the region pass through at one point, is a dead end station on side tracks rather than a pull-through stop. Trains either pull in to one of the several platforms and back out or back in and then pull out forward. They basically have to do a 3 point turn like in a car. I suppose they could find another siding somewhere and turn around again but there's really no reason to take that delay and opportunities to do so would be quite limited. Supposedly there are plans to rework Union Station to make it a pull-through configuration but I'm not sure how they'll do that with the highway right on the other side of the station.
The first time I saw the Metrolink and Amtrak trains in Anaheim, we first wound up at Cerritos Ave, we then went to see them at La Palma Ave, then right at Sycamore St, then at Ball Rd, then at State College Blvd and so on.

They push from behind, almost all American trains do it. Mostly Amtrak, Metrolink, and freight companies
