    Please note peel and stick tiles WILL peel off the wall paint and drywall when removing… even w a hairdryer …. These days I use plain white contact paper as the first layer on the wall, then apply tile over that. Much less of a disaster to remove.

    To avoid the burned area problem in the future, you could put real tiles in that area to put the hot pans onto.

    Hi Alli
    I have seen DIY’s where they put a piece of cardboard on the cabinet doors and then contact paper them which seems less difficult than contact papering a raised panel cabinet door….

    I definitely prefer the green tile, even when placed against the very dark counter top. It's gorgeous imho. And yes, I think black pulls would work best with the current cabinets and appliances. The contrast with the wood and tie in to the appliances would work well. If you go with the white marble peel and stick for the countertop, try to find one that has a touch of green in it to tie in with the green tiles. If you can't find that, than I suggest trying to find a tan/marble tile back splash that most closely matches the white contact counter top you want to use. Maybe a brown, but I wouldn't go tan as you could wind up clashing with the cabinets... Definitely think you need to change out that boob light! That alone will effect the kitchen a lot, and may have an impact on what type/color of pulls you want to use. You can add a lot of lighting just by adding peel and stick under counter strip lighting and maybe even a tiny lamp which is quite trendy in kitchens right now. I strongly suggest this especially if you want to go with the green tile. -- jmho! I'm glad I stumbled on your vid today and look forward to watching your journey!

    If you’re looking for a nice thick marble contact paper I used one from Amazon that was by the brand very berry the white matte version in my bathroom and it looks really nice! Especially once I added white caulk on the seams it looks great. As far as the cabinets if you do want to do contact paper I’ve used a hack of putting poster board over the indents then papering over for it to be a little easier. My renter kitchen looks almost identical so I’m excited to see the outcome!

    I "vote" for the black pulls, the green tiles, and the wooden detailing for the snack area. Will be looking forward to your choices and the reveal. I had never thought of redoing a rented kitchen before. Maybe I'll get some ideas also. Tho my kitchen is a lot narrower than yours, I would NOT want to co-cook in there.

    • @nuthinbutlove
      @nuthinbutlove 3 місяці тому +1

    • @ActuallyAlli
      @ActuallyAlli  3 місяці тому +2

      Yeah... the issue is they tried to scam us right before move in. We signed on for this apartment, but then suddenly we were told we couldn't have it because they were going to renovate it. But we fought back because we didn't want the rent increase. So I think the complex ended up not fixing it up for us because their plans are to tear everything out once we move out

    I second your enthusiasm about the wooden details underneath the countertop because it adds colour without being super bright and it sets the "snack area" apart from the entryway. Atm they look like one area since they're both white. But I'm sure after all these ideas and your successful transformations in the past you will truly make this your own.

    What an interesting idea….question: which video shows how to make the shelf rail in your bedroom?? I love the green for the backsplash sorry I keep editing!!! You know that beautiful green would look great on the design under the snack bar. It would look good from the living area and add color to the kitchen. Trying to match the cabinets would be more difficult

  • @curtainsup9

    green tile, black hardware, cover counters with a heavy contact ( I have done that twice and will be doing it again. It holds up well. ( buy a bit extra in case you ruin a cutting.) Love the slats to upgrade the front of the seating counter, but be careful not to conflict with the accent wall you aready did. I was watching Joshua Alexander and he cut out a large wooden Pig to accent a bar area in a restaurant. So a large plywood cut out of some design could be effective there. I didn't get any idea you would paint the cabinets, but you could make wooden overlay designs and give them some personality. Another thing you could do , if you have somewhere to store some of the upper doors, remove the ones you see the most.-see from living room?? Add color ( contact paper, cut painted foam board-whatever to the back side of the cupboard and display some of your prettier dishes. It will open up the kitchen. I did this where I just moved from and did it on the cheap with loctite poster stickers and CHEAP dollar tree vinyl table cloths to line the shelf and back of the cabinet. Made for easy wipe down! If you do that suggestion, extension curtains rods can be used near the back of the cabinets to hold plates upright.( pretty) and creates space.

    I think you should go with a light countertop and the green tiles. Then a wrap around texture of the "snack bar" area as you pointed out at the end, with a pendant light. Also, lighten up the rug you have in the space, and some warm strip lighting above the cabinets and under cabinet lighting. This will add some dimension and brightness in a warm way to the kitchen so it doesn't feel so cave like. Also change out the boob light. lol Great ideas, I can't wait to see it come together!

    My kitchen is similar to yours now. I have dark countertops,black appliances and natural cherry cabinets. The main difference is that we have a giant wall of windows. We just did a back splash in horizontal glass tiles that are a mix of green, brown and silver that are different sizes. We painted the kitchen the same color green as in the tiles. You might consider mixing the tiles instead of one color.
