Hey buddy - thanks so much for this. In the process of replacing my zoom with the Stomp XL and was really struggling with Snapshots. I keep going back to this vid for reference so really appreciate it!
10:56 to 14min mark = setting up snapshots in command center in stomp mode Great information. In the Bigger helix floor, I got confused on this and now I get it. You have to set it up on all snapshots.. thank you!!
Ma man! Than you so much, I sold my hx stomp xl, badly I didn’t dive into more information, and this way to set all up it’s just what I need. Very helpful, thanks again.
Great video! Really informative. Quick question: is six the total number of snapshots you can utilize for the whole unit? Or, can you create and store multiple banks consisting of six snapshots each? In other words - and this would be an extreme case, but for the sake of example - let’s say you’re in an experimental band that writes complicated songs with lots of contrasting sections, such that each song requires its own six snapshots. In other words, song #1 has six dedicated snapshots. Song #2 has a group of six completely different snapshots, and so on. Can you store and scroll between different groupings of six snapshots like that? Or are you limited to six, total, for the whole device? Hope that question makes sense. Thanks so much! 🙏
Just wanted to send my thanks and appreciation for finally solving the problem I was struggling with for at least four hours! This is the topic at 10:56 minutes. Great video - concise and clear. Subscribed.
Hi Jack! Nice one, thank you so much! I like the snapshot approach myself. To save some precious footswitch real estate, I don't use one for snapshot 1, as that is loaded already with the preset. Only Snap2 to Snap4 get one assigned. Hitting the active one again jumps back to Snap1. This needs some twiddling in the Command Center though (at 12:24). Some mind twist, but you might consider this as well... Thank you again, cheers, Mathias 🙂
Great video! I have spent some time going through the manual and yet this was still very helpful and taught me how to use the command center (I don't know why it's always been a mystery to me). I have a Helix floor and when not as limited by DSP/switches I've never needed to program it this way. Also note: you can make a parameter vary by snapshot by holding down OPT (Mac) and clicking the up/down on the parameter and it will go white for you.
Ooh thanks for that tip on the Command Center snapshot assignment. I hadn't gotten there yet but I can see how that would trip you up. I'm wondering, what possible use case could there be for assigning different things to each button on different snapshots? In my head it only makes sense the way that you have it set up
great tutorial! the easiest to follow and the right amount of talking! Do you know if what you mention at 10:58 can be done on the unit (not on the editor) I can't see a dropdown for the snapshots on the command centre in the unit.
Thanks. While I’m experienced using my Helix Floor at church, last night was the first club gig I did with my new HX Stomp XL based pedalboard. (I’m using IEMs.)Immediately had the ice-pick effect that I’ve never had with Helix at church. Use a Powercab at home when creating Presets. I guess I need to play with Global EQ and crank up dB’s at home. Jack (or others) - how do you tame the highs (lows) at live volumes.? (Ha, just got to point where you mention using cab hi-cut. I didn’t think of that at the gig. Will definitely do that!) Cheers, and Happy New Year!🎉 🎆
Tried it. Love it! Just a heads up… if you have a block assigned to a pedal make sure you un assign it in HX edit or it does strange things. Can’t wait to use this on Friday. Many thanks 🙏
This is more or less how I use my Helix LT - snapshots on the bottom row (clean, Crunch, Crunch+, Lead) and extra effects I can add to any of the snapshots (eg Phaser, Churus, Drive Pedal, extra delay). They vary be preset but to suit some songs but I find I use the same preset for probably 80-90% of songs. I have a Stomp XL as backup - I think I could have managed fine with the stomp pretty much although I've never needed to use it in anger. In use I keep the two buttons on the left as up:down for selecting presets and the other four as my snapshot or effects buttons. For the stomp XT I toggle between snapshot mode and pedal mode to have the same effect as my LT. So I default to snapshot mode and adjust any effects I want on for a specific song and I can set mostly on snapshot mode. I have it showing the snapshots on screen (when in snapshot mode) or the effects I have assigned to the buttons in stomp mode. I ideally don't have it in design/layout mode at all really when in use.
great video, I tried to assign the same parameters snap 1/2/3/4 but for some reason sometimes when I press the footswitch to the next parameter let's say from 1 to 2 it goes right away and sometimes I have to press it twice, anyone know why?
Re. assigning stomp FX to spare switches - does anyone know how to do this in the software with different ones per snapshot? I have a Helix Effects and it doesn’t have the same signal flow window
Could you make a video showing how to set up snapshots manually on the unit itself and not on the computer? Trying to figure this thing out i just got it a few days ago. I can make presets and assign different effects to individual foot switches. But i don't know how to assign the whole thing as a snapshot which is what i want to be able to do
no where near as simple as Helix though, and even though this worked (some what) .... as I kept switching between 1 and 2 I was getting different or rather WRONG snapshot. This is pissin me off because I've watched about 10 videos THIS ONE being most helpful to what it should be, I now wonder if there is a defect in my XL, I have 2 presets that I am only using 1 and 2 on trying to get it to work (you know Rhythm / Lead) when I select the Preset then Snap mode it will be ok starting on Rhythm , Switch to lead ... problem is... it doesn't Switch until I press it a second time, Like WTF ? then switching back same thing, SIMPLE until it doesn't work as suspected. Spent hours trying to get it to work NORMALLY without some BS going on. also noted, If I press the snapshot accidentally it turns the Effect off it was supposed to engage, UGH ! maybe I need to reset the Unit.
FINALLY figured it out, ALSO if you set snapshot 1 up with all the others, you can then right click copy then paste to each one, I did this with the bank down and up buttons 1 and 4 , time saver for sure.
@@guitarlairthat happens when you saved the snapshot onto a footswitch that already had an effect assigned. Move all the effect to other foot switches or set them as ‘none’ and then re-assign the snapshots and it should be ok 👍🏻
Thanks for getting to the point and not adding a bunch of unnecessary comments
Best drinking game ever! Take a shot every time he says snapshot. I usually pass out half way through the video
Hi from Belgium here. Thanks a lot. It helped a lot for me!
Finally! A video that's straightforward and focused on the snapshot stomp functions! Thank you!
This was incredibly helpful! I thought I was going crazy with the snapshots not working. Thanks!!!

Thank you… new to the HX Stomp XL and it was doing my head in. This made it all make sense. Excellent.

Really helpful data!!! And smart hardware choises. ThXS
I don't have the Stomp yet but this was incredibly helpful to understand the functioning of it. Thank you so much!

Jack, have you ever shared your Presets anywhere. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing! Exactly the info I was looking for. Do you go straight to FOH from the stompxl?

Which global setting is it that makes the snapshot remember (or not) what effects you switched on/off?

can you change the buttons when you change between snapshots? like when I change a snapshot can my switches change with snapshots?
What pedal train are you using? Trying to figure out what size is best. Can you fit a couple pedal?
It's actually a Rockboard Duo 2.1 :)
Just to make sure, this can’t do 6 in stomp mode?
How many effects can you use??
