Pietta Dance & Brothers Revolver
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 тра 2016
- The Dance and Brothers revolver was one of the best quality Confederate-made revolvers of the Civil War. In this video I'll try out Pietta's replica of that fine revolver from Texas.
Don't let the haters bother you, safe habits equal a safe shooter.
I never get tired of watching you perform the loading process. That's part of the fun of black powder revolvers.
Welcome back!
Agreed and I would say its a big part of the fun!
It forces you to slow down and savor the experience ...
"You load five for safety. Why not six? Well load six if your gut says too."
JB Books The Shootist
I like your comment RE: chain fire. I was told (many years ago) by an old timer, that chain fire initiated from the front and greased chambers were mandatory. Don't remember who, but one guy with a high speed camera, proved that chain fire can initiate from both the front and the back. In all cases where he succeeded in getting a chain fire, "loose fitting" allowed it. Loose ball, tight cap, chain fire from the front. Loose cap, tight ball, chain fire from the rear.
This didn't happen every time, but these were the causes in each instance where he succeeded in getting a chain fire. Greased chambers helped the loose ball, but it was Russian roulette with the loose caps.
Glad you're back. I've missed you.
My grandpa taught me to load five for carry and six when you're "Loaded for bear." And his grandpa taught him. His grandpa was a veteran of "The war of Northern aggression."
Did his not have safety pins?
As a historian I would like to make the point SC fired on a UnIon Fort in 1861…. The war was a rebellion started by Southern hostile action…. The overriding cause was slavery, despite the revisionist history of the lost cause. States Rights? Yes the right for states to continue own slaves and to be able to continue to add slave states to new territories… just saying. I would also note I was born a “Yankee” but I have adopted the South as my home for most of my adult life. 😅
It's nice to see Pietta having the Confederate guns out now like the Dance and the Griswold & Gunnison. I might have to get one of these when I hope to start competing in blackpowder revolver again just to have something that is a little different.
They are not realy very good copys which I can never understand or bye one fir that reason
My dad taught me to load five whether it was a cap & ball or his Ruger new model Blackhawk. Turns out the Ruger has a recall for transfer bar problems and accidental discharge. Just shows me dads good habits were right.
I like seeing the loading process in action on different C&B revolver models. It may be the same but it's still fun to watch IMO.
That’s a really cool revolver. .44 is my preferred size so to see that shape in .44 is awesome. I wish it had a hexagonal barrel that would be the prefect one!
I have the Uberi 1862 police in .36 cal. I love it. It only holds 5 rounds. My absolute favorite C&B so far is the Spiller and Burr. It's the most accurate even out to 50yds. I've been looking for a Starr in SA. Dixie has had them on back order for a year so far. Love your range.
Just got one from DGW. The Slix Shot cones for my Pietta 1851 Navy fit MY Dance and Brothers just fine.
That draw and fire in the beginning was really good. Remind me to never get in a shootout with you
I'm glad you show the loading process.
thank you Duelist for all of the time and expertise you put in to all of your videos. I watch UA-cam every day, in fact way more often than network TV. You are one of my favorite youtube contributers.
I would like to thank you for the videos. The information in them has helped me with my pistols. I have a 1851 brass framed Navy in 44 with a 7.5 inch barrel and just recently bought a 1858 new model brass framed Army with a 12 inch barrel. I agree that the 1851 shoots way high but the Army is more accurate for me. Extremely glad you are back doing these videos, learn something every time i watch.
good to see you back
Hi! So glad you're doing well! Very worried about you when you had broken your ribs and did in your shoulder. We've been praying for you. Wonderful and informative video as always. Enjoy your in-depth reviews of old tech pistols and rifles. Good that they have the all steel frame. Yeah better than the pseudo Griswald used in Hell on Wheels although the show is awesome. Pietta makes some great stuff! Thank you.
Your channel is my first view of a cap & ball revolvers. I find the technology advancement over the years very interesting. From flintlocks on... Thanks!
Good to see you shooting again! 5 shots or 6--personal preference, if don't see why anyone should criticize that. Rock on!
I love how every Confederate revolver has a cool backstory
Good to have you back Mike! Enjoyed seeing this revolver.
Another great, informative video. I've learned a lot from your other cap and ball videos. Now I know how to take them apart and actually re-assemble. Thanks!
Hi Mike, I was not aware that you were out of action. I am glad to see that you're up and moving around well. Please continue to stay healthy. I truly enjoy your videos and you're a truth wealth of information. I Also have the Pieta Dance and it's truly my favorite cap and ball revolver. Sincerest Regards Always, ~Keith
Glad to see you back in action. Keep up the great work. I like the mix of history lesson, loading, and shooting that you do in your videos.
Welcome back Mike,
Glad to hear you are doing better! As always nice video and as a bonus for me it was a Confederate revolver :) Cheers!
Glad to see you back Mike! I've missed your shooting videos and hope your shoulder is healing properly.
Mike. Welcome back, Sir.
It's good to see you back slinging lead again. It's been to long.
Beautiful revolver.
As always great video. Interestingly I just watched another youtube about the Pietta Dance, and it had a square trigger guard. He even commented that it was inaccurate and he was planning on replacing it.
Good to see you back, Mike. I've missed the videos on fine historical firearms.
Glad you’re doing better!👍👍😃🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Very good to see you back.
I love your videos Mike! Nice fast draw by the way :) I was excited for this video and it was great as usual. I hope you feel 100% soon!
Thank you for another great video and I hope you heal up and get well soon.
Awesome video and great to see you back in action Mike!
We need to see YOU back in action, Murphey. By the way, has anyone ever told you that you look like the Angry Video Game Nerd?
+Diktator Alexander I uploaded a new video today! But unfortunately at the moment I cannot upload videos at the frequency I used too. Thanks for being a fan!
Subbed!
murpheysmuskets You're welcome. I love your Musket videos where you dress up in uniform and shoot the rifle muskets.
Keep it up- I’m from Columbia, TX and gun safety is fine 5/6 works for me.
The one advantage I see with the lack of a recoil shield is if you needed to get one shot reloaded as quickly as possible: slip in a cartridge on the right side of the frame, ram it home at the bottom, slip the cap on from the left, and then move the primed chamber up to battery. With a recoil shield in place, you would have to turn the cylinder one full revolution after loading the cartridge to get the cap on, then another 3/4 turn to bring it to battery.
Good to see you back
Great to see you back in the saddle!
'Got em!.' Nice shootin' tex. FoD Blitz!
The only revolvers I'd feel safe fully loading are: The Remington percussion with the easy-remove cylinder, & a modern revolver with safety systems that allow that.
Great to see you back Mike, no better physical therapy than shooting B.P. revolvers.
Really glad to see that you're doing better. Great video as usual!
I do believe the lack of a recoil shield on Dance was due to materials shortage.
I found the balance on the Dance quite good, the Dance and Spiller and Burr are among my favorites!
Great videos! Love the details!
Subscribing now!
Thanks for the video. And that’s a very cool weapon.
glad you are back
Good to see you back! Follow your rehab program; you don't want anything to become chronic.
Nice video Mike. Glad you are back and better. Great glasses too!
Very glad to see you back ....... and shooting black powder!
Thank You !!
Can you imagine a company on a skirmish Line in the woods like you were in this video? One volley Fire and a smoke screen would obscure firers and targets! No 🦟 mosquitos however! Lol
Very true about the ball size being necessary for a good fit to seal the chamber. I have had a chain fire in an 1849 baby dragon replica. I was using .315" balls which were loose enough to push into the chambers with my fingers. I did grease the chambers liberally as I always have and both chambers on the left and right of the chamber in firing position fired. Thank goodness it did nothing to me at all except make my heart skip a beat when I realized three chambers were fired after shooting one shot. I did hear two very quick pops when I fired which made me wonder and that's when I noticed it. I never would have believed it would fire with greased chambers but it did. So, the moral of the story is NEVER use undersized bullets of any type in a cap and ball revolver even if it's greased!
I enjoy your videos very much. You often talk about chain fire mostly coming from the cap end, and assert that the grease doesn't prevent chain fire. In a recent video with live fire - I will find the video and follow up here - another black powder user was unable to cause a chain fire from the cap end. The number of attempts was small so that certainly doesn't rule out that it can be caused from that end. However, on the other end, using proper setting of the ball (ie to ensure it is perfectly tight & shaves a ring of lead as you do) he showed several chain fires from that side. When following up with grease, no chain fires were experienced. Doesn't mean grease STOPS chain fire but shows pretty conclusively that chain fire commonly comes from the front and that grease absolutely does make it less likely. He did not, to my recollection, use wadding
I find it very interesting that a lot of these manufacturers all used cotton mill factories to re-tool for their pistols!
Good to see your feeling better. Continue to take it easy. You know how joints are. We'll stick around.
Good to have you back.I have a Pietta J H Dance. With that navy grip and 8in.barrel it points very nicely. It's only problem is it shoots 10in. Left at 15yds. Welcome back and take care of yourself. It was a long winter not watching your videos.
Great Video Mike. Excellent revolver. The Colt style is the best revolver style to copy in my opinion. I do hope you continue showing the loading process, to me enough is never enough when it comes to percussion revolvers. I still need to go out and shoot my Spiller & Burr.
Welcome back.
So glad you're healed and back bro.
Great video.
Nice revolver. Decent shooting. Good comeback video. Thanks again Mike.
Glad to see you back in to action and throwing some lead mate!
Nice to have you back.
Nice to have you back MB!
Great to have you back! Take care!
really liked your peacemaker article. your comparison of the colt and a Rolex were quite fitting I believe. keep yours close bro and glad to see you shooting again
Glad to see you back in action. Personally I love watching you reload the old pistols. I love cowboy guns both black powder and cartridge. A question, I loved your videos on the nail and dowel method of reloading shotgun shells is there a way to do this with say .45lc cartridges with out the press. Just curious. Hope you keep recovering without set back. Good to see you back.
It would be difficult, to say the least. Brass shells need to be re-sized or they will be difficult, maybe impossible to chamber. Then you need to expand the case mouth to seat the bullet, and re-size that area and crimp...hard to do with any homemade tools. Lee sells cartridge reloading kits that use a mallet, you might want to look into those. leeprecision.com/lee-loader-45-colt.html
+duelist1954 thank you for your reply sir, I know your a busy man. Loved the Bulldog video as well where you chopped down the cap and ball pistol to a belly pistol. wish I had the ability to do that. would love a cowboy pocket pistol.
You could get an "avenging angel". It is an 1860 snub nose with a birds head grip.
Mike it's great to see you back!
Dave K.
Nice to see you back,
Great to see you back on the range, firing away! What a cool gun with a great history. How does it compare with Remington New Army, etc.?
Good to see you back at the DEN. Hope the shoulder continues to improve.
Welcome back Mike! Very happy to see you sir.
Nice to have you back I enjoy your videos!
Good to see you back at it Mike!
Good to see you back in action Mike - your videos are always informative and entertaining.
Good to see you back at the range. I wondered what was going on that you had eased on the shooting videos. Good to hear you are feeling better and back to getting your hands dirty with the black stuff.
Glad to see your on the mend enough to shoot again. Looking forward to more videos.
Always enjoyed your articles and videos. Glad to see you're mending well.
Looks like your aim is still on. Thanks for the video. Can almost smell the blackpowder
Good to see you back!
Have one. Haven't fired it yet. Used to have the colt version of this. One thing I don't like about the dance Brothers one is the handle is to short for my hands, which leads to it feeling to front heavy. I read somewhere they made the dance brothers handles smaller than the colt counterparts though because people in the south tended to have smaller hands than northerners. My colt 44 was perfect. Well balanced, if not a little back heavy. Just what you want
I just saw this video pop up. Glad to see you've healed up, Mike.
Be well, sir.
Happy to see you back. Great videos. Great articles.
Miss you're content. Thanks for the new upload! Love it
Greetings from Ireland. Welcome back.
Great video as always Mike. Hope your shoulder is better and pain free.
A really minor and stupid thing, but, as a Texan, the pronunciation of "Brazos" really bothered me. It's pronounced brah-sos, not bray-zos. I know, it's silly, and has no bearing on the quality of the rest of the video, but I spent many a time fishing on that river, so it holds a certain nostalgia to me.
Do you pronounce all Spanish words in the original manner or is it specific to certain placenames
I’m from Texas too, Houston actually, but I now live in Louisiana. Near where I live there is a parish and river called Ouachita. Northerners, like Bill OReilly, pronounce it “Oh-Cheeta” when it’s actually pronounced “Wash-eh-taw”.
Your videos are A+ I just have to say in a shoot out between myself & You it would be a tie. Your a far better shot but you present one hell of a target . JUST HAVING FUN !!!
I love your video formats. I find them professional. Haters will always hate, keep up the good work. :)
Thank you, I be truly enjoyed watching you burn black Powder. Thank you
That's not Evil Roy! That's his good twin Rusty!
Very interesting videos. Thanks duelist!
welcome back sir. i hope you are feeling well and are having a good Memorial Day weekend
Glad to see you back in action. I can tell you are still a bit sore!
Welcome Back Mike! I wanna thank you for that review and testing you did with the Kaido conicals. I just purchased 100 of the 240 grain bullets. Look out Hogs here I come. lol
The no recoil shield system was a way to prevent action jams
Finally, your back!!! Hope you're fully recovered soon!!!!
Great video and welcome back...
Great video, welcome back.
Nice to see you shooting again Mike! To celebrate Memorial day I just had to go out and shoot my 50 caliber Hawken.
Here's another LUV BOMB from one more of Fate of Destenee's T-REX Army great vid.
