  • Your friends at www.farmallparts.com bring you another "how-to" video on maintenance for your farmall tractor. This time we adjust the valve spacing on a Farmall M tractor. The same procedure could be used on a Farmall H tractor as well.

this was very helpful but just a note.
I dont have a crank and I know most people dont.
I found that if you take all the plugs out you can easily rotate the engine by turning the fan blade.

Excellent job! This is good review before doing the work yourself. Thanks. I was hoping you had one on setting the timing on the M with a distributor firing system. I can read how to do it but watching someone actually do it really helps.

Is it possible to adjust 1235 then rotate 1/2 turn and do 4678?

Also, a question. How tightly do you turn the jam nuts. I had one come loose on me.
Maybe I missed it but I dont think so. My wrench is shorter than the one you are using but I pulled pretty hard.

You dont mention that the manual says this should be done with the engine HOT.

Your wasting your time with the top dead center thing. Been doing this now on 40 yrs. and you bump the motor till one valve is fully open and adjust the other valve and just repeat the process for the rest. When your bumping with the starter it is much easier.
