  • Orchids are what she raised in her greenhouse and "Harry Lauder's Walking Stick" is the name of the tree. It has gnarly, contorted branches. Work isn't the chore it was when you had a job. It's at your pace and on your time. There is no rush to get to anything. It actually becomes a joy to do not the hassle it was before retiring. I haven't done an ounce of actual work sine I've retired. Just messing around really.

    That was a beautiful slide show. Just because you don't work for money anymore doesn't mean you're not making a difference. You're doing the kind of work that makes the world a better place to live. A good example to your children and others. Nice "job." ;)

      I'm just glad it turned out ok and watchable. The music was a little loud but I didn't know how to dial it back. True on the work thing. I guess if you enjoy what you are dong it doesn't feel like work. No matter what I'm doing in retirement it feels more like messing around instead of work. Thanks for watching. Steve

    First of all, I enjoyed your retirement chuckle lol! That hit deep. Can’t wait til I have one. I can’t relate to the feeling of life in retirement but I sure am looking forward to it. March 2026 can’t come soon enough.
    My hubby and I just returned home from a little trip in Utah’s Zion National Park. Now I have to prepare for work on Monday 😔 I long for the day when we can take these trips and when we head back home, we’re meandering through the day doing the little things we enjoy doing.

      It happens all the time and I don't even realize it. The stress relief and the fact that I'm not always worn out from work just makes you feel good constantly. I remember those "Sunday Scaries". You loose them in retirement. The variety of things I get into during the week is what I enjoy most. Like you said "Meandering through your day" doing whatever it is that you want to do and having the time to do it. Just can't be beat. Thanks and take care. Steve

    I like to get enough of my "to do" list done to feel justified in all my "do nothing". Beautiful tomato plants at your place, and hostas at your friend's place. That magnolia sounds like it must have been awesome. I would have loved to see it.

      The reason for my retirement routine. Stuff actually gets done and plenty of time for nothing. Otherwise I'd be doing to much of one and not enough of the other. That magnolia was awesome and I'd never seen one before. She had 2. We always referred to it as a Swamp magnolia but I believe it's actually called Big Leaf magnolia. Native in the south but uncommon. Grows 65 ft plus with the largest leaves of any deciduous tree at 30 inches. Thanks for watching. Steve

    Thank you for sharing Steve. That was great. I love your UA-cam channel. Planning to retire next year at 62 if I can figure out what retirement will look like for me. I believe I’m ready financially and I’m looking forward to not having the stress, but I’m concerned that my high A personality will make me bored in retirement. I guess I have a year to figure it out. 😢

    • @retirementcorner
      @retirementcorner  Місяць тому

      Thanks for the kind words. Congratulations on your decision to retire next year. Once our numbers work retirement turns out to be a big mental game. The stress relief and not having work always on the brain helps with that. That free mind space we get by retiring is a big help with the boredom. Instead of having work on the brain we're finding new opportunities and activities all the time. The key is to act on them. That's the hard part for a lot of us. It will take a little work on your part to figure things out but once you do Retirement is a great period of life. Thanks and take care. Steve

    Deer are beautiful animals. Nothing cuter than a small spotted fawn. But, they sure do a lot of damage in a yard. They eat many of our plants and flowers. Our revenge is we like deer hunting, and really enjoy eating venison. We save money not buying much beef when we have venison in the freezer.

    • @retirementcorner
      @retirementcorner  Місяць тому

      Exactly how it was handled at her other place. Even had a damage permit from the game department. Helped a little but just to many of them around. Try that in the neighborhood she's in now and the law will be there before he drops. The problem with civilization. Thanks for watching. Steve

    Steve you got deer coming in your yard to eat your garden? I noticed the hog panels around the garden. when I looked at your place I did not think you would have deer coming into your yard.

    • @retirementcorner
      @retirementcorner  Місяць тому +1

      The last year I had an inground garden they ate everything and still get the wife's hostas every year. Every night they cruise by and snack. They have built so many neighborhoods around here they've run the deer out of the woods and into the neighborhoods. We see them all hours of the day and knight and lots of them get hit by cars. A little bit farther out in the county we could control them ourselves. You try that here and the law will show up before he hits the ground. Turkeys, foxes, coons etc. a little bit of everything here. Haven't come by any hogs yet. Thanks for watching. Steve

      Man that's late. As long as she can keep the deer away they do pretty good. She has to plant things that deer don't particularly like and she tries to keep things sprayed. This fence has worked great and no trouble with the HOA. She's tickled to death over it. Thanks for watching. Steve

    • @retirementcorner

      Yep. Just for decoration though. The actual vent is regular size. Part of living in an HOA neighborhood. The appearance from the road has to be consistent and similar. That's why we had to put up the little deer fence. Can't see it from the road and doesn't affect the neighborhood appearance. Glad I don't live in one. Couldn't afford the fines. Thanks for watching.
