Time Flies in Retirement

  • Filling your hours in retirement seems daunting until you retire. It's so easy to get distracted and stuff always comes up. You actually get busier than when you were working. That's where a retirement schedule comes in handy. You'd hate to get so busy you don't get to do what you looked forward to in retirement. Scheduling your off days just for you helps with that.

    "You actually get busier than when you were working. That's where a retirement schedule comes in handy." Thank you Steve. Very Good advice/thought. I am going to make a retirement Schedule BEFORE I retire. 2 Years & 2 Months to go Doc!

      You would think not having a job you would have plenty of time to get to everything. Life has a tendency to get real busy. If you don't schedule in a little down time you'll never get any. Be a shame to go through retirement like that I think. Just as busy or busier than your working life. Take care. Steve

      It's one of the things I enjoy most about being retired. Even when you have a day off when you have a job, work seems to creep into your mind somehow. In retirement there is nothing that gets in the way of being in the moment. Take care. Steve

    “Tuesdays and Thursdays as my days off” ! That was funny Steve. Guess what I did today? Walked my dogs in the morning and sat outside most of the day reading a good book in the beautiful weather, then walked my dogs again in the afternoon. I would say today was a day off for me. I just hadn’t scheduled it in…it just happened. 👍

      Same here. Happens all the time. I scheduled in those days just to be sure I didn't get so busy with everything and not have time to just mess around. I didn't want my retirement to be just as busy or busier than when I was working. Even my so called "work days" tend to be slower paced with some off time sprinkled in. Usually get only one or two things accomplished. Some times they even turn into an extra off day. I wanted a retirement of leisure. Scheduling off days guaranteed that. Sounds like a wonderful day you had. Good for you. Take care and enjoy. Steve

    That’s a heck of an insurance plan. I have a high deductible plan, but the maximum out of pocket is $6500. I wouldn’t want to pay that every year, but I could if needed. It was offered through my pension plan and pretty heavily subsidized, so I can’t complain.

    • @retirementcorner
      @retirementcorner  Місяць тому +1

      I was able to carry the same insurance we had at work for the same premium. My pension pays for the premium I pay. Your max is pretty good I think. Like you I could but sure wouldn't want to pay that every year. When I was deciding on what to do about insurance I saw some that were $11k or more. Our max is $3k/ family & $1500/individual. If I would have self insured I could have been on the hook for a pile of cash. I chose to pay a little higher premium to have a lot less max if I ever needed to use it. Easier to come up with a couple hundred/mnth than a few thousand if something happened I figured. Payed off this time. Take care. Steve

    Well said.
    I make it a point to never work on the weekends. It took me a while to learn that. This year we have taken to not doing much on Monday either. The reason is that our working friends tend to keep us so busy on the weekends that we need Monday to rest up 😂
    Another important thing for us is to schedule our vacations way in advance. One of the goals we had when retiring early was to travel more but it turns out that if we never schedule it we get so wrapped up in our routine that it never happens. Something as simple as buying airline tickets six months in advance makes it happen.
    The garden looks great 👍🏼

    Hi Steve! 1st, Your Tomatoes & Peppers Look Great! Healthy & Strong. 2nd, at 1:43 in your video you say $23,000, which is 3 times what you pay for Health Ins. My confusion: $170 x 12 months = $2,040. $2,040 x 3 = $6,120. Hence, $6,120/$2,040 = 3 Times more than what you paid for Health Ins vs what they Paid.
    Not trying to be a pain... but did you mean $2,300 vs $23,000?
    😃

    • @retirementcorner
      @retirementcorner  Місяць тому +1

      No problem at all. I wasn't exactly clear. My monthly premium is $700 or $8400/year. 3 years x $8400= $25200 just a little over the $23k. Almost three times my yearly premium. The $170 was my copay for that bill. If I had gotten an insurance with lower premiums or self insured I possibly could have been on the hook for thousands. By having a little bit higher premium I pay next to nothing if we ever have to use it. Hope that helps. Thanks and take care. Steve

    Our lives are like the steam coming off a boiling pot of water. It appears for a short time and is gone.
    Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
    People could wisely use some of their time reading the Bible.
    The book of John and Romans are two good books to start with.
    God has a gift of eternal life He wants to give everyone.
    For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
    Some people don’t prepare for retirement and that’s too bad but not preparing to meet God is eternally worse.
    Research Jesus Christ He died and was buried and rose again.
    He paid our sin debt so we don’t have to go to hell. Trust Jesus as your savior before it’s too late.
