2024 Suzuki Swift Review: The BEST small car?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 чер 2024
- The Suzuki Swift is, in our opinion, one of the most underrated small cars on sale. The latest model, launched in 2024, aims to take over where the Ford Fiesta left off, by being a small and affordable car for those who don't want or need an SUV.
It uses a three-cylinder petrol engine with mild hybrid technology to offer a sensible blend of performance and fuel economy, helped by most models weighing comfortably less than 1,000kg.
In this CarGurus UK review, Chris Knapman explains how the Swift performs for practicality, equipment, running costs and driving dynamics. Would you consider buying one?

Kudos to Suzuki for continuing to make ICE superminis. Take note Ford et al.
If the Swift came to America, then it would definitely best be sold as a Toyota Swift
Suzuki’s small cars are perfectly engineered and extremely handy in crowded cities. The Kei car concept make perfect sense because of the ever increasing car population and parking woes.
I love Suzuki Swift 🇿🇦
We bought one of these on launch day from a Suzuki dealer, we had the car less than 2 weeks and it was already in the garage with a massive crack down the windscreen when it was left in the driveway overnight, luckily going through warranty as it was a stress fracture. The only issues we have with this car is every time you turn the car on you have to turn off the mandatory speed warning or else you have constant beeping and we have had it a few times that the car brakes rapidly or tries to steer you back into lane even if you have the option turned off. It has wireless android auto but does not have wireless charging and the only difference between the regular and 4x4 version is 40mm in height and a difflock.
These cars look great. Try and insure one! For a 1.2 mild hybrid they are a ridiculous group 27 to 28. My cupra leon 2.0 with 245 hp is only 28. Don't think many people will buy these when they check this out.
Thanks for the heads up 👍
That's ridiculous for a "not very" swift 1.2.
I have bought one and will get it somewhere in July.
Have ordered an Ultra version for the wife in flame orange , delivery in July :) .... cant wait
I’ve ordered an Ultra in red with the black roof!
Haha same! Flame orange for august/September delivery.
Let's hope they do a swift sport... If it's as light as the others and has about 130bhp it should be great!
They do do a swift sport
@@joan9947 not of the new version yet... (In UK)
@@joan9947 where do you have the infos from?
not possible to sell in europe bc of politics
Suzuki are smart. Nobody in their right mind wants a toy EV SUV. People want real cars. I hope other manufacturers take note. I would vote this to be COTY rather than politically mandated 4 wheeled junk.
Well I'll be honest will I consider buying a new Suzuki Swift if I had the money in hand, Absolutely, I use to own the previous previous version, 2014 model 1.2L engine and I loved it, it drives and handles really really well with confidence, it has a nice and tight turning circle, it's fuel efficient too though the newer one probably have a better fuel efficient than its counterpart. It still looks great and I still ❤ the new one. People might be looking to buy bigger cars, but sometimes having a small little car like the Swift is all you need really.
Thanks god it’s not a SUV . A real car for people who doesn’t want and need to drive a useless tank !
Just bought one of these in best spec!
Agree with everything! And the gadgets justify the pricetag. Suzuki could though offer a basic model without lots of comfort and luxury features for an even much lower entry price i agree...
hi, does the base model 'Motion' have a digital speed indicator please?
Which is better compared to the Toyota Yaris?
I agree that the main issue here is price - it’s competing with Sandero, Fabia, Clio, C3 etc. but it’s smaller. Given this is made India too you’d expect it to have a lower price point. Superminis generally are falling out of favour because they cost £20k+ with the odd exception. Suzuki used to sit at the value but quality end of the market but I’m not sure they have any particular USP anymore.
If you are qualified for a blue light affiliation NHS forces etc it starts at £15k which makes the money side of the equation lean towards Suzuki throw in a 7 year warranty generally good dealer it poses a question given how poor cheap citroen cars with shorter warranties and poor poor dealers.
The Indian models are not the same car as the European or Japanese ones.
All the car the majority will ever need.
Couldn't agree more. Instead, to save the planet we all have to drive 5.5m long 2.5t 22inch wheeled 100kwh overbearing nanny beeping +£50k crappy riding badly handling garbage cans.
Naaa, I'll keep my (still too big) Fiesta
@@pigeonpoo1823 Fiesta was the best selling small car for years in the.UK. Great car.
@@pigeonpoo1823Just a bit of an exaggeration
I want more car than that
Yep, but most are just thinks bigger is better and thus overcompensating the wants instead of the need. Most buy SUVs will never go off road nor even filled that capacity with passengers and cargo most of the time. We just ended up more heavier vehicles in the road that requires more energy and more wear and tear on the road, all while making parking harder due to bigger vehicles trying to fit in existing tight parking.
SUVs are not bad at all, but it is highly overrated type of vehicle that somehow became the new default car. Actually due to this, many lower trim SUVs end up just having FWD which is defeats the point of the SUV type vehicle. They just became oversized bloated hatch but not much signaficantly larger in capacity.
Also its an irony we care now about carbon footprint, but making SUVs requires more resources to build. So we ended up heavier EV SUV which will have even heavier battery to compensate with that size while having decent range.
It's the perfect little car. Only issue is it's getting pricey.
What about safety?
top info review a really fun small car to drive i love the non turbo chain drive 1.2 engine.
headunit is so slow are we just gonna ignore that?
Kind of agree with you about the list price there is some decent comperition at this price though the 7 yesr warrantly and Suzuki will do you a discount either through some affiliste discounts or finance/ discounting.
The standard alloys on the motion are a bit galvanised bin lid looking not ad nice as the outgoing model and putting on heated seats without the heated wheel is a spec error.
Agree they could easily do a more basic car for little effort and likely will in some markets.
We lijr the old model for its looks rear door handles and the dash vents bit sporty IMO.
We will givevthis a look in summer to see if upgrading majes any sense.
Why is nobody mentioning the missing bezel around the speedometer. Who in their design team thought that that was a good look. It just seems wrong. Are they trying to save weight. I think that would drive me crazy if I had to look at that every time I sat in the car, it just looks like it’s not finished, and it really would be a deal-breaker for me. And talking of deal-breakers, those awful wheels on the Suzuki Swift Motion. I’ve already seen a UA-cam video from a dealership who are offering to replace them, for a price. So even the dealers know it’s not a good look.
Cute Mini JDM
Price?
I have the previous model SZ5 Mild Hybrid with 1.0L 3 cyl Boosterjet Engine which has 109bhp. Got to say very underwhelmed by the new model, it just looks like a facelift of my car. Slightly different at the front, and the tail lamps slightly different as well. Interior is almost identical apart from the larger infotainment screen. Overall the car is not that much different. The main disappointment is the engine only delivering a measly 81bhp, don't get me wrong I love my Swift, but to release a new model almost identical with a lesser powered engine that is so much slower is a backwards step by Suzuki.
BTW having now had a test drive in the new model last week can confirm it is like a snail on valium compared to The 1.0 SZ5 Boosterjet Engine, I was actually shocked at how much slower it was. Again I absolutely love my current Swift as it has everything, but current owners will be massively put off by a ridiculous loss in performance of a so called new model, and many like myself will not purchase this 'clone' of the previous model with a woefully underpowered engine.
Suzuki has prioritized improving fuel efficiency in order to comply with recent environmental regulations.
I am looking for a second-hand 1.0 cvt. The CVT is even more swift than the manual. Those engines are very well tuned. Love them.
A very complete little car. It’s a pity Suzuki messed up the looks.
Suzuki makes the best affordable cars ✌
Suzuki left Canada and the US. Please come back.
Pity they've dropped the excellent 4 cylinder engine 🙄
Is there no automatic version?
CVT
Man, the new one is ugly and awkward looking! It's like 2 people designed it simultaneously and they took both designs and fused them together. I think this shape will kill off the sales momentum it had gained.
Profit margins on small cars are dwindling?? Don't make me laugh! Here in the UK, the cheapest new model Swift will set you back £18,699. In India, the same basic car starts off at a mere 6.5 lahks, the equivalent of £6,130!!! We're being asked to pay THREE TIMES what the car costs somewhere else. Far from 'dwindling', the margins on the Swifts sold here are simply exorbitant.
In Singapore it’s ~SGD$140K, which is about £80K 😢
@@brendonho17 I lived in Singapore in the late '80s. Even back then, cars were ferociously expensive because of the cost of the special permit you need. I seem to recall my Honda Accord cost me £30k! That said, I sold it in 1990 for more than I paid for it. Happy days...
The Indian version has zero crash safety features, it’s not the same car.
Can we import India's Suzuki swift to UK?
@@MrYc97 Probably not because European Swifts are assembled at Suzuki's plant in Hungary, which is inside the EU. That said, my Celerio was imported into the UK from Suzuki's Rayang plant in Thailand. I can readily accept that European Swifts are specced to a higher level (particularly regarding safety) than Indian Swifts but £12,000 worth of better??? That's simply not possible!
I like it. Please start making cars again. SUVs are f*cking awful.
Red is definitely the best colour for this car and has impressive economy!
BUT it is dated in pretty much every other way and not cheap and cheerful enough in key areas 😢
Yes and No. There's some amazing discounts available.
Same is true of the Vauxhall Corsa, big discounts and it’s a larger car albeit in lower spec/trims.
I guess the swift does suit those wanting a true compact city car/ supermini which is easy to fit into tight spaces
81bhp??
The best small by a huge distance is the mazda 2. Nothing comes even close. Drive one then drive anything else. You will buy the mazda 100% of the time
I can buy a Citroen eC3 fully electric for less money.
And in 3 years you ev will be worthless or it may have burst into flames before then or broken down the suzuki will do none.of the above great car
Or a "great" C3 ICE with its rubber belt that broke the entire engine in less than 60000 miles. ;-)
First 🎉
Voila, the rear door handles are finally on the doors. Children and aged people used to struggle earlier.
skip the history lesson mate.....next time get straight to the car in review !!!
This whole video is you driving buddy 😅
too bouncy too short too expensive
It's a fail. Not cheap and not good looking. This has no place in Europe beside Clio n new mg3.
Seriously behind times
F56 Mini is better in every way
