NEW Ford Electric Explorer Review! Is it good enough?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 вер 2024
- The new Ford Explorer is an all-electric SUV that is set to play a crucial role in Ford's line-up as it continues to move away from hatchbacks such as the Fiesta and Focus.
It is based on the same platform as the VW ID.4, but has Ford been able to infuse enough of its DNA to stand out from its German rival, as well as from a plethora of other electric SUVs such as the Tesla Model Y, Volvo EX30, BMW iX1 and more?
In this CarGurus UK review, Vicky Parrott tests the brand-new Explorer to see how it fares for space and practicality, technology, comfort, ride and handling, and costs. While not a perfect all-rounder, the Explorer shines for the way it drives. Would that be enough to sway you?

Currently drive an ID.4, had a chance to drive an Explorer at an event in millbrook proving ground this week and it was really impressive. If you don't need the boot space of the Enyaq, the Exporer is impressive to drive and promises a significantly better range from the same battery... presumably then Ford have worked on the handling and the efficiency as their USP's.... thought it looked really smart in the flesh too.
Another excellent film from Vicky. Proper professional.
Reviewers have a bizarre obsession with opening rear windows! I literally never need to open the rear windows from the drivers seat but do it by accident all the time. Having only 2 switches is a good feature!
Went with a Skoda Enyaq 85 last month and absolutely loving it. Best ev on the VW platform imo. Great, honest review as always :-)
Thank you Vicky, I doubt between Explorer en Capri, but I like both new cars👍 Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
I agree with her, Fords do usually handle very well, both Fiesta and Focus are examples in my case!
this isnt gonna be that tho
The moveable screen seems pretty practical actually.
I'm so confused by Ford. This car was delayed by a year to include newer battery technology - but it's the same as the ID3 which has been out ages. And they didn't take the extra year to fix the awful haptic steering controls or fix the bad infotainment UX. It feels like a missed opportunity.
Ford claimed that the delay was because of some new EU battery regulations that they had to comply with. VW also did some upgrades to the MEB platform so likely that could also be a factor. As far as the haptic steering controls, this was done on purpose for cost cutting reasons. Haptic controls are cheaper than buttons.
@@IMAN7THRYLOS VW are moving back to physical buttons on the steering wheel and the new Tiguan has them, so I was expecting this to have them too as they're out about the same time.
@@IMAN7THRYLOS If they are cheaper, why did the base model Golf 8 have normal butons on the steeringwheel from the beginning, while touchbuttons would have been available, like in the gti?
@@efghabcd5237 Maybe because marketing promotes them as more premium and some people may actually believe it.
Great review, love the looks of Ford Explorer much more than sister iD 4.
Keep up with great work 😊❤❤
I’d definitely have this over a Mach-E.
Not really saying alot as the mach E is not one of the best Evs on the market
I was thinking that exact opposite. It has no frunk. The explorer is a suv but it has less storage than a sporty "mustang" mach e
Going for a test drive this week on the strength of this , thanks
I enjoyed the honest approach and I’ve sat in one. Yes, I like it and it’s definitely worth considering with 374 mile range. Hopefully, get a test drive soon.
Looks really good.
Sad about the VW-style interior controls.
What you have to remember is the ID4 is getting on in years. VW has moved away from that type of interior controls the new passat for instance is a massive step forward away from these silly controls as vw listened to their customers complaints. In all fairness Ford could have made more effort to change them but decided to save money instead by just using vws id4 controls.
I enjoyed watching the Video Review, definitely something different to other Rivals 😊
Nice no nonsense review....looks a decent car and if it drives like a Ford then may well attract previous Ford fans.
Waiting patiently for you to get your hands on the Electric Macan and Audi E-tron Q6...😎🙏
It's pretty obvious it wasn't filmed in the UK, because it's not raining….LOL. Only joking…
Ford, please bring it to Australia.
Why ford didn't change the door handles on the outside. To something more different and give it a nice finish.
Proper buttons and one-pedal drive, it would be 10/10 for me… costs way too much without any deals though…
Part Ford and part Volkswagen.....what could possibly go wrong?
I love it!
Underneath, it’s actually a VW. And somehow, that is just so sad.
Feels/looks abit dated.
If it was released at the same time as the Id4 or Skoda enyaq it would have been really competitive.
Let’s see if those moving out of the focus/kuga would be tempted by this
I think this proves Ford in Europe is mainly a commercial vehicle brand and no longer cares about passanger vehicles.
The van range are shared with VW now as well.
@@SquareoftheyearFMnot all
@@tesla_models yeah only the transit custom, connect and the pickup so far.
@@SquareoftheyearFM the ranger ,transit custom all are 100% fords
Back on form good review.
Depending on the price of the EV3, Ford could be on to a winner if it can sort the software out for non-tech folk.
Looks great. Sick of Teslas everywhere here in HK.
Yep there's an VW underwood but with an extremely important difference... battery chemistry!
I actually like the look of the car. It’s the inside gear that puts me off it. At least it’s an SUV unlike 99% of all the other EVs that claim to be one ( I think I had more rear boot room in my Focus) but are really raised hatchbacks. The screen is the selling point. Would I buy one? No, far too expensive for what it is. Like for like, the Enyaq beats it hands down and I never thought I would be thinking of a Skoda over a Ford!
No roof rails as standard for a car named "explorer"... Bit of a fail there really.
No F-150 Lightning in UK?
Will probably steal a few sales from ........ the Mustang Mach E.
Priced like all EV’s so that manufacturers tempt you into a PCP/Lease which ensures greater profit margins and keeps people changing car regularly to keep the market buoyant during the expensive time for manufacturers (albeit they are making savings in production with screen technology). If consumers hold their nerve then prices will plummet in a couple of years as these come onto the second hand market.
_It's another crossover_
WHAT A SURPRISE
Unfortunately they accounted for 50% of all cars sold globally, until car buyers fall out of love with them, they're here to stay.
@@Zerofightervi that wont change if they keep making them lol. ofc they will keep selling a lot of those chasis then
Who designs these all looking the same suv's 🤔🙄
Vicky is a great reviewer
The inability of legacy to react to the transition to EV’s is why sanctions exist now on China who make very good EVs.
Meanwhile, sanctions slow the greener transition.
At this sort of price range I would be looking at the new Tesla Model Y when it's released. Good review though
Not worth the stigma
why would you own a tesla. they are broken cars lol
Disappointing. This should be the Edge. No third row, seats 5, not the size and capability of the Explorer.
Great review, the vehicle is lovely, but annoying where it matters - unintuitive dashboard, and iffy touch sensors on the steering wheel … nah which is a pity as I love the looks, and size.
VW have just started to sort the problems on their id cars for 2024, looks like Ford need to do the same. I saw the car at the Northern Fully Charged show and the guy cringed when I asked him if it was on the VW chassis. Love your ballance car reports by the way.
Lovely review as always from you❤👍! Maby the standard level long range is better then this top spec..better comfort with smaller wheels and no glasroof.
Bought One - AWD Premium in Arctic Blue
EV Market is dead avg new car £40 K plus is far too expensive it will end up on lease sites for 300 a month no one is going to buy it.
I think they want you to lease. Keep you poor
Name me ICE cars below 40K what are worth looking with bit of space. No small hatchbacks pls.
@@rustcohle9589 skoda karoq 1.5 sportine dsg £35k
I think you answered your own question..lease.
For me, the overall styling of the car is poor. Doesn't wow me in anyway.
From what you show of the interior(which wasn't much) it could've been much better and practical and the entry model seems poor value too. If opt for an EV9 over this any day.
I have a awd sport in US and this looks tiny in comparison
I know the Explorer name is not known in the UK, but in North America, it is a popular mid-size SUV. Vicky talks about a new era. Ford should have come up with a new name for the new era. The Mach E should not have Mustang near it, and there's a rumour Capri is coming back. Ford, don't do it if it's not a 2 door coupe.
Upwards of £50K! EV's are so overpriced
EVs, not EV's... There are plenty of ICEs at this price range that are overpriced.
And with zero looks. Ev9 Kia aside.
@@zzhughesd EV3, Renault 5, Megane, ID Buzz, ...
Evs are overrated, overpriced junks
@@aaawwweeee Let me correct that for you. -EVs- *ICEs* are overrated, overpriced junk.
I think the American look is also a selling point. The looks are great.
And because VW makes still improvements with the MEB platform, Ford could do it too.
Youre hardly gonna venture into the out back in an electric car. What is the point of an explorer that cant explore?
Why is it so expensive? and why would anyone choose it over the other competition?
we dont need more suv/crossovers. we need more sedans, saloons, hatchbacks.
Submoronic! The manufacturers respond to customer preferences, which say what "we" need. What we ought to need, in the view of fascist types, may of course be different.
😃😃😃😃😃🖐👍Excellent film....from you Vicky....
Have a good day...mvh Magnus Lemhage Skövde Sverige
Great review. Don’t like the car.
And what planet are you living on when a £46k suv is going to be the 'model of choice' ? - sell it for £30k and it would clean up, or alternatively wait six months and pick up a used one when depreciation has kicked in :)
Can you flash up the range in kms on your videos please !
Not good enough when the Škoda Enyaq is out there
Brilliantly done review, All valid points. The front of the vehicle looks plain ugly to my taste. Rear ok. Ford does know how to make better driving vehicles although they come not very reliable compared to Asian brands. Big question is reliability. Good news it’s an EV so hopefully No wet belts or cvt transmissions please.
Not the nicest looking but a great review
I think bland sums it up.
Imagine physical climate controls what an innovative concept, but tragically not on a this VW
Lot better looking than the ID.4 at least.
@8:15 'Wrong' side of the car? Me as a mainland European find that offensive!
Guys, as your language is not always like English, please duplicate all numerical figures with text on the screen.
So Ford come "cap in hand" to VAG for help with their EV's, and VAG fob them off with all the crap that they've got left over from their much maligned ID range.
EVs, not EV's. 🙂
@@Locutus Thankyou.
@@Hell-Hound1 You're welcome. :)
Put a Temu badge on it.
It’s being made in Germany
Well reviewed and good to know it drives well but...seriously Ford!?...At that price you can get so many better EVs with software that works and a hell of a lot more style.
I'll take a reasonably priced hybrid, but not a full EV, which costs stupid money.
How many times a day you are changing the driving mode? You are talking like you are doing that every 3 minutes all the day long.....
A couple of times when you first get the car to see what it feels like. And then never!
I'm sorry if I'm gonna spend £40k on a vehicle I'm gonna spend it on a b8.5 audi rs4 nogaro edition.
The fact that you don't even mention Tesla in the entire video tells me a lot about your bias. You mention many other EV's in comparison, including ID4 and Kia and several others. But why not tell us how this compares to a Tesla Model Y? Model Y is only the BEST selling vehicle on the globe! You would think you could give some comparison about what's better or not better than a Model Y. It's really ashame that virtually every car reviewer is bought and paid for by legacy auto makers with their advertising dollars.
Too expensive. The ENyaq (and Q4) manage better steering wheel controls - so why suffer here? Only threatens the Model Y from the Ford fans - but given Ford's retreat from Europe except for those so called SUVs are there any left?
Front looks like a Vauxhall/Opel, side profile looks like a Citroen. Another car made by Stellantis?
It was explained clearly in the video that it is based on the VW's EV platform.
@@Kelveron it was clearly meant as a sarcastic joke, clearly.
You lost me at last gen VW haptic nonsense. It's the interior that you most interact with and it would drive me crazy. Fail
Im sorry but what a boring looking car, I swear my bosch dishwasher has more style. Also that price tag for something that wears a Ford badge i would have to give my head a serious wobble. It actually to me just looks dated already.
its going to head the same way as the Mache E down the pan massive depreciation from day one offer it in various power trains not just EV
My god that is hideous..... but not really surprising for modern day 'family EVs'. Funnily enough, I passed a brand new Focus on the motorway today, and even though it's not my type of car (I drive/need a big diesel estate!), I still had to give it a few extra looks as it is such a good looking car. Hard to believe they are actually going to be discontinuing such handsome vehicles as the Focus, in favour of more ugly looking dross like this thing above.
You're bitching about the wrong thing entirely, like for the fact that there's no Fiesta or estates anymore, but nothing but a deluge of SUVs
Ford still has no dedicated EV platform of their own.
Mustang Mach-e?
Not often I look at a new car nowadays and think ‘ugly’. Well done Ford 😂
Utter junk, had a Tesla for a year got rid of it and now have a ford kuga… wouldnt have another elctric car if you gave me one.
I think the color makes it look boring
Wouldn’t touch it. It’s a VW and that means problems and disgraceful customer service. Avoid, avoid.
Absolutely agree
Problems, true, but customer service is not done by VW, it's done by Ford.
So it’s VW.😂
Lovely lady, hate the car and being ev
Much cost battery for change all this cars u need more nuclear plance 😂😂😂😂 Europee government charge a lot tax’s at gas cars if eliminate all gas car where europee government get all this money need find another highway get this money ? Lady u know what say you’re no gd u and electric car
Still not even close to what Tesla is doing so how the whole Volkswagen Ford thing works out still has a long way to go in this regard.
looks awful
Original one nicknamed. The Exploder !!!! Lol
Junk
That is one ugly looking vehicle…..
Another useless EV with the Range of a Faulty Base Model Clio 👎
Another useless *SUV with the profit gouging like all of its competitors
FTFY
Deest
Its electric so who honestly cares.
Plain and a ugly front end. Ever since Tesla came on the scene, a steering wheel and a iPad, it’s so sad.
Nice VW. That rear wiper needs to go.
The design is basically a copy paste of KIA EV5 but uglier 😅
Can’t pronounce Volkswagen 🙄
Small and overpriced
Fell asleep to this, well done ford
If it drives as well as you say, do the other little niggly things really matter ?
She is just nitpicking, which she is allowed to do. She said that they are not dealbreakers. But if there are too many nitpicks, it can become a dealbreaker.
Why not in US?
