      A lot of the show didn't quite line up with the books... but it's mostly ok. The parts I have the most problem with was Season 4 Chrisjen Avasarala. In the book, she was a civil servant that knows her value and her power, she knows how to wield power. The series made her look like a politicians that play bad politics, which I do not understand. All those plot points can be just as easily be done without making her look so out of character. She is even more out of character then Season 1 Holden.

    So like, the thing that I'm most amazed by in the scene is the display showing how fast the Nauvoo is going. That is measuring in KILOMETERS per second. That is roughly 6 percent the speed of light. The Nauvoo weighs in at around 100 million tons. The energy required to move that thing at such speeds is insane. I'm almost more impressed with the Epstein Drive than the protomolecule tbh. I did some rough calcs on the kinetic energy the ship would have if it hit Eros. Lets just say I understand why the protomolecule REALLY wanted to get out of the way there. I don't think there would be enough of Eros left to be knocked into the sun.

      Ye, that's something I just thought about when re-watching. I think it would've been more shocking (even for non-sciency viewers) if the camera watched from Miller's perspective on Eros and did a zoom to see the Nauvoo, a bright beacon hundreds of miles away and then followed it get closer for about 10 seconds while Miller talks (from his viewpoint). But then right as he stops and then Nauvoo is almost about to fill the frame, that's when Eros moves, but it does so in a twisted way and the Nauvoo flies past.

Plan was to deliver it to the core of Eros, where its power come, and detonate bomb there so Eros would hopefully stop accelerating thowards Earth. Yeah...the first few seasons don't really match the books, even though The Investigator showing up would have been the perfect cliffhanger - or even post-credits sequence - for the end of Season 3.
      IIRC:
      Book 1 = S1E1 - S2E5
      Book 2 = S2E6 - S3E6
      Book 3 = S3E7 - S3E13
      Book 4 + half of Book 5 = Season 4(...?)

    I do believe the speed of the nauvoo at 19000kmps was a little fuck up on the part of the expanse people... A mass of 1kg going 19000kmps would have the same kinetic energy as that of a 40 kt tnt nuke... Considering that the orbital velocity of eros is about 25 kmps and the nauvoo weighs millions of tons if not more, it would obliterate eros into a million pieces scattering the protomolecule all over the system instead of pushing it into the sun

    I found an mistake in the first frame. It says the Nauvoo is travelling at 18000 km per second. This is over six percent of the speed of light, which doesn’t work as it would take months to accelerate that much, and judging the distance from Tycho to Eros the trip would only be a couple days or weeks at most. Also at that speed the ship would fly past so fast it would practically be invisible, being too far away in one frame and already past in the next.
    Edit: In a later scene they say the ship is accelerating at several kilometres per second per second. That makes me assume the meant to say metres per second not km per second.

    • @R4Y2k

    • @MultiKeto
      @MultiKeto 4 роки тому +3

      they are able to accelerate for weeks with one g which is insane but if the distance between eros and the tycho was similar to the shortest distance between earth and mars than they would have had to accelerate with 2.2 km/s^2 or 220g and yeah no that is 8 times higher than the gravity on the surface of the sun...
      and the roci would have hat to been even faster than that they started at the same time.
      any impact with that kind velocity would have shatters eros maybe even ceres but still great show.

      @@Aditya-f8t5z It used some kind of reactionless engine to move itself, and heated up because of the work that engine performed. It's the kind of thing we have no idea how the hell to actually do - but the way it happened doesn't *quite* violate the laws of physics.
      It had a certain amount of kinetic energy in its old orbit, and less in its new orbit (because it slowed down, basically). That kinetic energy somehow got turned into heat - that obeys conservation of energy, but nobody today, nor anyone human in the 'verse, has any idea how to build an engine that can actually do that without expending some kind of propellant (or else emitting a lot of radiation - there is something called a photon thruster, but those are *legendarily* inefficient.)
