I dont know why no one makes videos on Pokemon stadium 1 and 2. There is only 1 person that i've seen make a good video talking about some of the rentals in stadium 1, and this is one of the most popular pokemon game ever made too. kinda sad

There is absolutely no way any regular person would find Surfing Pikachu because it's in 1 Cup where you would absolutely not pick Pikachu sadly.
I'm not looking forward to Round 2 when I get there but I'll muscle through one way or another.

Growing up, I had Nintendo Power's Strategy Guide for Stadium 2. While the guide didn't include this overall analysis, it did break down every cup/gym in the game with a recommended rental team for each with some common contenders like Haunter, Fearow, Wobufett, and Parasect.

That is super cool! Thank you for sharing because I don't think I ever saw Nintendo Power mentioned in my brief time looking for team suggestions online.

Snorlax is already one of the best rental mons, now imagine if they actually gave it rest instead of defense curl, or even fire punch.

These games are harder than most difficulty mods with the rental mons sets, I love it! But how was a child supposed to ever beat this? The legendary mud slap tyranitar tech is unforgettable 😂

One thing that really isn't considered in the rankings is that virtually all the rentals you're given have low and sometimes zero IVs and Gen 2's versions of EVs. This means that not only are you dealing with jank movesets of Rentals, but they're going to be vastly weaker than your opponents too, especially past Round 1. This makes Snorlax arguably worse than it appears on paper since it just doesn't have the bulk to get Curse going in the abscene of RestTalk, while Pokemon like the Legends and Pseudos are outright unusable.

    • @Mage_Nichlas_

That is likely correct based on how Stadium 1 had something similar with its DV's and Stat Experience. These were not present in the information on Bulbapedia and/or Serebii where I got the data from.
However, just looking at the actual Stat Numbers they are... okay in some cases.
We just have to make due with what we have.

Dewgong is a noob trap. Its too mediocre stats wise to justify its use and the reliance on sleep talk works against it in the sense the game is programmed to maximize it's strategy with flinches & crits. Meaning more often than not, your Dewgong will be unable to secure a single kill before falling to RNG in the later battles. I tried it many times, it's just not worth it.

    • @bigtimetimmyjim6486

Seriously, it is like these people putting Dewgong on the top of lists have never actually played Stadium 2 before. Want better water types? Starmie has 137 speed and decent 120-something special attack with Waterfall, hard enough to kill most 2x weak pokemon in R2 in 2 hits or fewer (and outspeeds almost all of them, too). Vaporeon has over 130 special attack and really good overall bulk, it can actually go toe to toe with R2 Alakazam and win. Seadra has Decent mid-110s speed and a powerful 125 special attack Surf, the best water type for pure power (well, tied with Slowbro, but its speed is a huge liability). All 3 of these pokemon can help you win games that you would otherwise lose, whereas Dewgong is really good at overkilling fights you would win, anyway.

Thank you! When I was a kid I only got through some of these battles by my Mewtwo and it’s psychic . So when I saw PS2 released I had no idea how I’d handle the castle this go around with only rentals

  • @cocomunga

The best Pokémon are obviously the ones that have only Dynamic punch or zap cannon as their only decent offensive attack. They love putting those moves on rentals. Why? Because they’re “ new “ and people want to use them! Also, why oh why is Scyther allowed in the little cup? What were they thinking? The rental one that you can use sucks too.

Just give me Fissure at that point. I've landed more OHKO moves than I have Iron Tail's so anything less Accurate is a big no.

No lv50 wobbuffet? No haunter? No voltorb? No umbreon? No fearow? No quilfish? No corsola? No aerodactyl? Heck, even crobat is better than rental dodrio. Are you sure you played R2? because a lot of your mons doesn't help after R1.

    • @Mage_Nichlas_

I haven't played Round 2 yet but I looked at all Pokémon in the context of how good on paper they are to me, not matched up against specific Pokémon that opponents have.
Also the video section only goes over Wobbuffet in Level 100's because I wanted different recommendations from the Level 50 bracket and 95% of all Pokémon are the same between Level 50 and Level 100.
The spreadsheets linked in the description of the video are all of my research with each Pokémon put into my own ratings. Also, I personally am not a fan of having moves of questionable Accuracy so the good Pokémon with Thunder have been avoided in my time playing. However the main 6 on the teams I have picked have given me no trouble.

@@Mage_Nichlas_ Not looking at match-ups somewhat devalues the rankings a bit, since with Savestates, Team Previews, and online resources in general its not terribly hard to get solid info on what tricks the opponents have and figure out which Pokemon (on average) are better than others in countering the competition. I can understand not wanting to go THAT length of exhaustive analysis, however.
Fair call on not letting the Wobb hog two bracket placements to themselves, tho.

@@Mage_Nichlas_ The problem with no Wobbu mention in lv 50 is that in R2 is literally impossible to beat the latter fight without it, either in Gym Leader or in Poke Cup. About the mons I listed, they are what is used in Staium 2 speedrunning to defeat R2.
Haunter is a fast and frail mon with Destiny Bond. Its the only answer to some R2 behemoth like Ttar, Dragonite or Snorlax. Voltorb and Corsola are similar, but Corsole way more niche. They are the only mons with Mirror Coat, and Voltorb is also fast to deal a bit damage with Selfdestruct and have SpDef to survive hits like Celebi Psychic (Prime Cup finals) and Espeon Psychic (Red, Ultraball Poke Cup Final).
Umbreon is the best game answer to Evasion teams like Koga if you don't want rng lottery. It also very good vs psychic based teams (Will, Sabrina). It also can turn defeats into victory with Sand Attack bs if you're in a losing situation.
Aerodactyl and Crobat, even if a bit mediocre with its attacks, are also the fastests rentals outside of Electrode and Jolteon, and in some fights this is the key to win.
Quilfish and Fearow are similar to Kadabra, Hit hard and hit fast. Fearow in fact is the most used mon alongside wobbuffet in speedrunning R2.
Werster is the current WR holder of rental only challenge in Stadium 2. And he have videos in his channel showing very good strategys for every fight in the game.

    • @Mage_Nichlas_
      @Mage_Nichlas_  11 місяців тому

That's all fine and those videos didn't pop up during me looking for good teams for Stadium 2.
However what you get out of playing Stadium 2 casually versus speedrunning is the chance to pick your own Rental Pokémon and with having savestates and not trying to get a world record low time it is possibly easier to win with other Pokémon rather than having specific already optimized teams for each fight.
Also like I said, 95% of the Rental Pokémon are the *exact same* between Level 50 and Level 100 so you can probably put together that Wobbuffet is good in Level 50's as well if you don't check the spreadsheets.
The Pokémon you suggested are worth picking for their benefits though.

Basically this. OP doens't have any idea how the game plays or works. You definitely need a fearow, voltorb, huanter and wobbuffet to beat the game in R2. Without those, you're literally screwed.

  • @tylerstraka8714
    @tylerstraka8714 7 місяців тому

This guy definitely has not beat the game.
The fun if this game is thr difficulty of the game. I wouldn't want to store my pokemon on a cartilage or use save states. Each time around really has you thinking.
I started playing when i was 5 and im 28. I got 2 cups left in round 2 (masters and ultra in lv 100.
Even with strategies it's hard. I love that. This is my replacement competitive for competitive pkmn for 1000 plus and IVs and ability changes.
There are 250 pkmn and everything is fixed. Pkmn is team building.

these games suck butt. incredibly unfair and cheap. just the amount of time wasted restarting the cups over and over. the gym tower is a breeze all the way through i dont get that part. i just cant get past much from great ball onward in any of the cups. if i dont select the right pokemon than i just get blasted. cpu never misses or fails yet everything i do just happens to miss when i need it most. but heracross' megahorn is my best friend on wobbufet and mew
