2:13 Chandler: "I don't think I ever in my own mind, think anybody's a villian." Great quote.

Chandler is right on about Fleming's remarkably accurate depictions of Manhattan and Harlem and also St. Petersburg, FL in "Live and Let Die." Fleming does an astonishing job of describing the ambience of a top NY hotel in that novel--as a young boy, I was exposed to that environment and was astounded at how well Fleming recreated it. Two geniuses talking here.

"What did you want to shoot them for?"
"I just thought they were better dead!"
This line and Chandler's laugh are goddamn hilarious.

Fleming on Bond ... ... "I intended him to be a sort of blunt instrument wielded by a government department who would get into bizarre and fantastic situations and more or less shoot his way out of them..." :-D :-D

"Blunt-instrument: with a gun? One University trained journalist/researcher, and one rough-shod tell it as it is, sort of guy!"

....Fleming sounds remarkably like Peter Cook!...

"I am an occasional drinker, the kind of guy who goes out for a drink and wakes up in Singapore with a full beard".

Hmm...hearing Ian Flemming's description of his intentions with James Bond--I suspect he'd have heartily approved of Daniel Craig's portrayal of 007!

Elba though? Listen to the man speak, he was no cockney, and in the novels Bond sounds much the same (he certainly talks like he’s Fleming).

He would have never approved of Craig. A closet Bond who is chronically depressed and who can't get over the death of Vesper ? No way.

@@ricardocantoral7672 The constant internal anger at the injustice of the world around him? Straight from the books. Craig is the one who's portrayed that the best.

@@Hard_Boiled_Entertainment That's not "straight from the books". Fleming's Bond wrestled with his conscience but he had his stuff together. Dalton was a lot closer to Fleming's Bond in looks and personality.

Chandler sounds tired, half drunk, and out of sorts, but by this time, probably all were true. But yes, he was a writer and a novelist of the first order.

Do you know if it's possible to find the text?
I'm from Spain and it would be better for me to read the text while i'm listennig in order to understand all words. It could be easier for me to follow all the conversation.
    Thank you

@kp9952 I think he sounds more like Jonathon Miller. Ever so posh.
