Guys like Sammy smoked liked a chimney, drank like a fish, stayed out all night and didn’t really talked good care of their God given talent like they should have. With all that, they could step on a stage with no auto tune or gimmicks and give a performance that 1000 years from now will still make people say “WOW” Sammy probably was the greatest performer of the twentieth century. Only Elvis and Judy Garland are in his class. Sammy was Fantastic. Even with racism and all he had to fight against, he was still a gentleman and a decent man from everything I’ve ever heard or read.
lol....
Most certainly. He was the bat as Frank Sinatra said many times. He as before his time. He could have been a hit on Broadway and got a Tony. Not just Vegas. I applaude him during all the racism he had to endure.
Cant you just enjoy rather than judge? Sixties, one eye, black jew married to a white woman. Enjoy the incredible voice. @@joycedesanctis1724
Not to mention the fact that he sat and reached what I would say is full vocal volume and tone. You’re literally cutting out part of your airway when you sit like that and still he sings out without an issue. Amazing!!
Elvis was not in his class.
Masterful. Alone on a stage, with a live orchestra, and every torchy phrase authentic.
Regrettably, we will never see his like again. And today's generation are truly missing out.
I believe you. There will never be another entertainer of the calibre of Sammy Davis, Jr.
he had more talent in his little finger than anyone else had in their entire body
Wow--I never heard that line before.
I saw him in person in concert...he was phenomenal!
No other singer in this lifetime could sing this song better than Mr. Sammy Davis, Jr. Period.
And he sang it sitting down!! The sheer power he had in his voice.
I have to say this is one of the greatest most natural showcase of pure talent I have ever seen. They need to make a movie about this man ASAP.
Arguably the best performance of this song by himself
Sammy was breathtaking, just a remarkable man.
Rip Sammy. You were by far one of the best entertainers of your generation and nobody sings this song like you did standing up let alone sitting down 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This gives me chills every time I hear it. My God, what a voice, what a performer.
❤ stunning performance. And he had so much power in his voice.
Singer, Actor, Dancer, Comedian, Impressionist, and more. Sammy was the Real Deal. I gotta be me is one of the greatest songs EVER. You were really good Mr. Davis.
God rest this man's soul I'm glad I had old school parents to raise me around music and old classical movies actors and singers like Judy Garland, Elvis, Michael Jackson and Fred Astire but Sammy Davis Jr was the man I always listen to
growing up. I was born in 1997 so I know I'm too young to know who he is. But being a young black man it's always good to know who paved the way for a lot of us!!!! So again thank you Mr Davis🖤🕊️🙏
One of the greatest performances EVER!!!!
Jesus, and that's his projection while seated!
Every great song has one person that does it best , and no one could sing this great song better than Mr. Davis ! I love how he unties his tie before sitting down , he knew he was gonna use a lot of air , what a big voice from such a little guy ! One of the greatest ever ! Rip
One of my Favourite Male Vocalist
This man was gifted with such incredible talent it amazes me.
My very favorite Sammy Davis jr song! So deeply emotional.
It's like Newley wrote these songs for Davis. I regret I was never able to see Sammy in performance.
I was able to see him perform live when I was still a child (around 1965 or '66, I guess,) and I cherish that experience to this day.
Anthony Newley did a great performance of this in character and costume; his voice wasn't as polished as Sammy's, but he had surprising range:

A performance of such power it leaves you breathless...
Sammy has the best rendition of What Kind of Fool Am I!
I am not aware of an Anthony Newley song that Sammy's version WASN'T the best version.
Jackie Wilson would like a word
@@CDR807 I agree, but the great Jackie Wilson had a more jazzed up version, where Smokey, here, does a more crooner style.
Best voice ever.. and it’s not even close.
And he song it setting down. My man Sammy Davis Jr. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍
Im from Brazil i love Sammy Davis jr
Genius
Nobody better ,, thank you SDJ !
Strength and talent.
Between this performance and his performance in Hamburg in 69 these are the best versions of this song in my opinion. I wish I could go back just to buy a ticket to go see him in person. To hear his voice echo through a room. Truly a master of his art.
I am 70 years old and I had the GREAT privilege of seeing him in person at Cincinnati Gardens when I was about 12 years old. He was then, and has always been, the hero of my lifetime as far as the entertainment industry goes. I feel he was not only the all-around entertainer of a lifetime, or of a hundred years, but of many hundreds of years. I'm so grateful that my parents bought the ticket (probably expensive!) so that I could see him. It was a large arena filled mostly with very well-dressed, sophisticated black couples - and one little white girl, standing on a chair so I could see him better. As far as concerts go, it remains the highlight of my life.
F’ ing brilliant!
3:04 until 318 wow.. Damn no voice better! Listening to sheer greatness
And he song it seating down. My man Sammy Davis Jr. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍👍👍
Chills
People rip me for saying so but Sammy was the most talented Rat Packer he could do so much stuff
Beautiful, Bravo!💐
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Stop The World 👏
My favorite song of Sammy's.Such great talent. 🎶🎶❤️
Unbelievable! Did not get enough recognition.
Well, he was a HUGE STAR, really. Later generations have forgotten many - or almost all - of the great performers of the 1930s through the '70s. Of them all, Sammy was the greatest.
My gosh what a voice!
um wow.
The Boss checks in.
He has a golden voice that attracts the sudience
🎉😊
The Wham of Sam.
Take good care. I meant.
A newley
Let us never forget
This song belonged to him.
All covers of this song are pointless.
Sammy Davis's cover is arguably the best, with the composer's a close second. here they are together: ua-cam.com/video/hW1KyuFJzoA/v-deo.html
