- Well this is it, the second to last video for Canto 5... It has been... A Journey to say the least. This chapter went really hard and I cannot wait to fully cover it in my analysis video. But I can say this much, Canto 5 is peak.

My perspective on this fights changed a lil. It's good lore wise and Ahab just said you need to sacrifice to achieve your goals. I just didn't like it cuz I couldn't find the passive saying that, main reason behind, I can't read. Also the Canto 5 analysis should be out on Wednesday, if not then definitely Thursday.
Quee pulling every skill towards her isn't part of a passive. It was actually one of the skill effects on the counter

The skill pulling bit is not a passive, but a "state" activated by one of Ahab's defensive skills.

I really like how this Canto makes use of a common metaphor of the White Whale (God, or something similarly divine) and takes it in two drastically different directions.
Both Ahab and the Indigo Elder see it as an eldritch, almost divine force. But the Elder treats the Whale with reverence and respect, believing that challenging it will elevate him to greater heights. Meanwhile, Ahab chooses to blame all the world's evils on it and sees the hunt as a holy crusade against evil and therefore, everything she does in the name of killing it is morally justified.
Seeing the clash between two different interpretations of the concept of God (a revered being vs a glorified scapegoat) in this Canto is very compelling.
I don't think Ahab was hiding who the Mermaid was from the crew, everyone saw Stubb get hit and they knew he'll turn. She just once again dragged everyone into a bout of collective insanity where they all kept acting as if he'll be waiting for them back in the port despite KNOWING he's the mermaid locked down in their hold.
Gaslighting at it's finest lmao.
Earlier in the dungeon there was a flashback where Pip said he knew the mermaid was Stubb so my guess is that she gaslit them into thinking he would be able to turn back to human somehow and have a toast with the crew at the port after the hunt is over.

The original Ahab was out to hunt Moby Dick because he lost his leg to it. This Ahab is also lacking a leg, so it may simply just be the reason why she went after the Pallid Whale.

You couldn’t attack Ahab because of her defense order, although it’s not explained in her passives it’s explained on the enemy skills.

it's interesting to think about the fact that ahab's crew is basically a bunch of mermaids, to the point even the whale they're inside doesn't overtake them because of ahab being the whale that controls them, they've been consumed by her absolute insanity
At first, I didn't understand why Ahab made Pip cut the vein and the other things leading to the people dying but I understand after watching this now. Her "blind obsession" with killing the Pallid Whale lead to the point where she had the mentality of "only I am allowed to kill it, only I!" which makes her intentionally kill those other disposable as she calls them since she doesn't want them to steal the kill.
Not really, it was mostly due to Ahab having to keep up the pace, morale and dealing with uncertainty of traveling inside a whale. Most of the people who fell from the bridge already were too slow to keep up, meaning their palidification progressed too far for them to be useful.

@@ss-ol5br From what we saw, he probably wouldn't have succeeded without help from the inside. Even if he had managed to significantly wound the Whale, it could have just disengaged and regenerated, unless the heart was destroyed. He only managed to penetrate to that point after Ishmael had already destroyed the heart, effectively ending the fight, so he either didn't know where it was located or was unable to get a hit on it due to Mermaids (which were mostly distracted by Ahab and crew) or the Whale's resistance. Ahab herself was the most knowledgeable about the Whale and probably concluded before being swallowed that it could only be destroyed from the inside, this also explains why she sailed in there laughing, seemingly without a plan. Getting inside with her crew was the plan if she already had her E.G.O, her crew was the ammunition she needed to take it down.

I fucking love Ahab. Legit probably my fav character outside of the sinners themselves.
A manic egomaniac that's driven by one desire and does not give a FLYING fuck about who she has to fuck over to fulfill it. Her EGO basically traps the souls of her fallen crewmates and CONTINUES to use and abuse them post-death till their very essence is used up or destroyed.
All the while, she physically cannot see what it wrong with her actions despite actively knowing that they're fucked up. The closing fight is so well done with her flipping everything back onto Ishmael, and actually making sense about it, but twisting it just enough that she herself has no fault in the matter. Not because she's guilty and doesn't want to come to terms with it or some stupid shit like that, but because to her she actually has no fault in what happened.
The amount of cathartic tension she creates just by existing is something I haven't felt in a villain in fucking forever. These modern age pussies are all about being tragic and relatable. Nah, give me a good old fashioned villain that does evil shit because that's what they want to do. Give them honest motives, but don't turn them remotely sympathetic.

They're both characters who can't feel guilt or shame about their actions, because they're above that. Book Ahab even holds a grudge against anything considered above him, at one point saying “Talk not to me of blasphemy, man; I’d strike the sun if it insulted me"

The only example better than a great example is a bad example, and as far as leaders Dante has confronted on this trip, Ahab has certainly taught Dante a valuable lesson in leadership.

Bit late but what happens is that Ahab uses a specific defense skill that triggers Queeqeg's aggro mechanic. It makes it so she can wail one sinner unopposed while Queeqeg sucks up all the damage.
The reason Dream Devouring Siltcurrent destroyed you is because it has funny sinking deluge on a 4 coin skill that inflicts a bunch of sinking

You can say the entire crew got stockholm-syndrome from being trapped with Ahab on her her ship for waaayyyyy to long, until they all gave up and said: "Whatever the captain says goes ..."
For those wondering why you can't target Ahab midway in the Team battle QueeQueg uses a defense and counter skill that makes it so that all skills aiming for Ahab are instead redirected to her, If u want to kill Ahab fast in this fight its best to quickly target and either Stagger or kill QueeQueg 1st while having 1 sinner clash with StarBuck to avoid getting hit with a 5 coin attack and ignore Ahab.
Just kill starbuck first to avoid dying, tanking ahab is fairly eay with tanks, just redirect it with prey mark
I think it's really interesting seeing Dante develop as the sinners also develop.
Eventually Dante is going to get enough confidence to deck Vergilius in the face. (Which I really want to see happen at least once)
With all the theories of Dante becoming a traitor, I wouldn’t be surprised if he became a traitor to Limbus Company. That would explain how to work Outis’ traitor plot line with her staying loyal to the Company

I interpreted the pip cutting scene as Ahab seeing that her hold on the crew was wavering because they were turning into mermaids so she'd rather kill everyone than risk being undermined.
Regarding the triple boss fight: Ahab is much less durable than Queequeg and the battle is won as long as Ahab is defeated, even if Queequeg and Starbuck remain alive. Also, from what I recall, staggering Ahab prevents her from becoming untargetable. Lastly, Tank ID's can soak up lots of unopposed hits from her.
Starbuck also is less durable than both and he hits quite hard, so the prefered order you need to knock them out in is likelly Starbuck > Ahab

I interpreted that Mermaids can convert other people into mermaids, a la zombie, and it just happened by chance that the mermaid they had captured to use as compass escaped (or maybe they never captured one and a random mermaid tried to attack Pip), tried to bite Pip, who was saved by Stubb.
It really hurts to watch you glance over every skill and special effect that explains what’s happening dismissing it completely

It's kinda the opposite, actually. Ahab's willpower and charisma is so absolutely strong that they were the basis for her EGO, Gasharpoon, which are those qualities manifested.
@@mauriciomeireles1210 I'd rather argue that her E.G.O allowed her to save those who had faith in her from pallidification, it's the only thing I could see making a difference and only the people who were unquestioningly loyal to Ahab were spared from pallidification. There was no golden bough involved before and nothing else that could reasonably stop it. Her E.G.O seems to need that loyalty to function as well, otherwise she could have simply used all of the people in Pequod Town or even the Sinners themselves as ammunition. Could just be a gameplay thing as well, obviously, but I think it makes sense. Ahab's obsession and her very self and world revolves about her faith that her declaring something makes it so.
I'd also doubt she was at her strongest, but rather because she was apparently more obsessed with pushing Ishmael to the point of becoming just like her than killing the whale. She could have just harpooned the heart herself the entire fight, but she was more focused on Ishmael instead, flat out ignoring the beating heart of her supposedly mortal obsession. Would have made more sense if there had been some sort of barrier she couldn't cross without the part of a golden bough stuck in Dante's clock, but there was nothing like that. I can only conclude that she was more obsessed with messing with Ishmael than killing the whale, since a fight with the Sinners was way more risky than not having that piece of a golden bough when the whale was apparently defenseless. Can't wait for Ahab to realise that the real obsession was the enemies we made along the way.

You know, hearing Ahab words I just remembered Hokma, He has faith, but is never blinded by it, he even said that his faith is diferent from the faith of a Lunatic, since for them what they believe is never wrong, and clearly Ahab is on this side of faith to the point were I was questioning how she didn't manifested EGO yet.

I mean, Dante becomes cold and focus on the journey in Dante Inferno. He definitely changes after getting their memory.
Just look at Dante's dialogue at the very start of the game before he's fully lost his memories.

It is also where you can see what’s going on with the trio bossfight.
I wouldn't worry too much about Queequeg's name pronounciation. Everyone's VA's are all korean with korean accents, so the pronunciation is subjective.

Well now you know EXACTLY why Ishmael absolutely hates Ahab with a burning passion.
Queequeg redirects all attack to teammates to her. Basically Aggro, you are forced to target her so you could also stagger her the turn before to prevent it. Also it has infinite attack weight because some reason, High priority, kill first.
In case anyone doesn't know how the 3 man fight is supposed to work, you need to check the skills as assist defense and assist attack only show up in the skill section. Bascially, Starbuck and Queequeg have "infinite" attack weight and will redirect any attack towards themselves.....unless you stagger/kill them. Focus on Starbuck first, then nuke Queequeg with blunt. Finally take care of Ahab.
Actually, the battle is won as soon as you kill Ahab and she has waaaaaaay less HP than Queequeg, so doubling down on her after nuking Starbuck is way better.
Ahab's fight here is PAIN! Basically, when you clash with her skill that "marks prey" Queequeg will force all attacks to be riderrected away from the captain, and Starbuck will do followup attacks to the captain's attacks with the captain targetting whoever was inflicted with "mark prey", which in a lot of cases is just instant death for that person.
Only way to get around this is to either stagger Queequeg on the turn that Ahab is doing her thing so that you can take over OR to stagger the captain the same turn she is doing "mark prey" so that she can't do her crazy 3 attack nuke the following turn.
I was running a tremmor setup and it was missery cause so many of my sinners were ultra vurnerable to basically eveything in this fight and I could do bugger all to Queequeg damage wise, so it very much turned into game of strategic staggers and choosing when to just sacrifice someone to take a hit (or die) and by the last two-three turns of the fight I was just making my sinners brute force their way trough with back to back to back distortions and hoping that it works out. XD
First time this game made me embrace turning the fight into a chaotic slugfest.
Ahab also has a skill called to me which causes Queequeg to pull all of the attacks Ahab would've taken
Throwing Outis at the 75% bonus damage Blind Obsession and then a moment later hearing "That killed her?" got to me lol. Especially with hearing "Just a Defense Skill" during the Ahab fight. Honestly, even with knowing how it worked, that was a bitch of a mechanic to deal with. Especially when the shield doesn't appear on the overall HP bar and only the 'Part' HP bar...
It's nice to see Dante getting character growth.
The Ahab, Starbuck, and Queequeg fight sure was rough. My first try I got trashed by Ahab's one sided attacks and Starbuck's surprising offensive capabilities because I spread my attacks too thin, and that stupid redirect Queequeg had. Second try went better, but I made the mistake of trying to kill Queequeg only for her to revive with half her HP and gave up on this 20-30 minute fight after realizing why that happened and I didn't have the Sinners left to continue. The third attempt went comparatively better because it registered that Queequeg's 1000 HP +500 revive Vs. Ahab's 450 HP was the game designer's way of telling me to ignore Queequeg once Starbuck was dead and kill Ahab during turns where the redirect is gone.
I dread to think of what it will be like to get some of these fights in Mirror Dungeon 3 if they show up. Imagine how much damage Ahab would do with her free one sided attacks fueled by Mirror Dungeon enemy buffs. The stuff of nightmares.
Stll trying to decide whether ahab or kromer was more mentally insane, because on one hand, ahab is inanely good at gaslighting. On the other hand, Kromer, enough said

I think post-nerf it's a cool fight, but you have to actually read the skills. Though I think most people would read a skill's text after witnessing it redirecting all your attacks like some kind of pain magnet. Insert PM fans can't read meme here otherwise. Before the nerf they were just murder machines.

tbf, Ahab in the original novel was more of a dick than the whale he/she was supposed to hunt in the first place trying to be obsessed about it

That second to last fight took TOO many tries and even THEN it was RNJesus that got me the win.
When I saw Ahab speech I just knew Ahab must either already have ego or was going to awaken EGO.
I think Ahab might be the best antagonist we have face so far in Limbus.
Some things to note for pequod crew fight:
1. The turn before Ahab becomes unclashable she will target one person with a mark skill so you can pick a target for her onslaught (like someone with high pierce res)
2. Ahab does her unclashable attacks 2 turns in a row but you can lower that to 1 turn by breaking Queequeg's shield when she is in her defense mode
3. Heard this from someone but as a strat you can leave Starbuck alive so that you can clash evade against his die so that the targeted sinner can dodge Ahab
The thing that prevents you targeting Ahab is Queequeg's counter skill. It also gives her a bunch of buffer hp.

You kinda did it right with the Ahab fight. Yeah.
After I finished the chapter, I retried it and it's easier to use IDs that can tank pierce while still having a few Blunt IDs to deal with Queequeg. You can easily destroy Starbuck with either R corp Heath, W Sang, or Molar Ishmael
No cap, but I basically ignored the Blind Obsessions boss Mechanics because I was was running a full Burn Liu Association team combined with the Burn EGO gift you get from the previous every turn it was suffering 99 burn damage to each body part.
I think whatever reason Ahab had to kill the whale was lost along the way and forgoted. And now all that is left is het abnormal obsession over killing it

I wonder what this Ahab's true reason is
Not even that, she seemed more obsessed with getting Ishmael to become just like her, forgoing the option of destroying the apparently defenseless heart of the whale and instead engaging in a way riskier fight against the Sinners over some flimsy excuse that she didn't want to risk anything and needed the part of a golden bough stuck in Dante's clock. Again, this fight was way riskier and entirely unnecessary, if her goal was actually killing the whale.
And if this Ahab is anything like the Ahab from the book, the whale daring to bite her was all the justification she needed, basically seeing herself as a god. To quote Ahab from the book: "Talk not to me of blasphemy, man; I’d strike the sun if it insulted me." If the Head had somehow insulted her, she would have gone after the Head and all the Arbiters, just because she's Ahab and no one messes with Ahab. She just doesn't give a damn, she also took in Queequeg, despite that probably causing her quite some trouble with the Middle. Ahab is beyond such petty human concerns, mess with Ahab and you'll wish you had been put in the Book of Vengeance instead. Letting Ahab live will come back to bite Ishmael's behind clean off, if Ahab here is anything like the Ahab in the book.

I got through the fight with no death, although it was not nearly close to my first try. Nuked down starbuck, made sure to clash with a ID that could survive Ahab's attacks with the move that targets, then desperately broke through QQs shield. Even with all that, it was still insanely hard.
It took me a bit to get her aggro mechanic too, no idea how i played around it on my second attempt but it probably had to do with most of my team being pierce ineffective (and using Yi Sang Sunshower) so her one sided attacks did basically no damage most of the time and i staggered Queequeg on the first turn of her defending so i was able to nuke her down fast enough to almost avoid the second guard phase entirely. Probably didn't quite play that correctly either but it worked.
But they ABSOLUTELY needed to make that mechanic more clear, like have them gain the statuses immediately instead of only showing up in her counter skill's description. But otherwise a pretty cool fight.
Also Dream-Devouring Siltcurrent is almost definitely an aberration of Dreaming Current, they're similar sea creatures (a shark and probably an orca) with overly large jaws, they both charge very quickly, and it literally has both "Dream" and "Current" in it's name. Super cool to see more aberrations in mainline media.
Dante is actually my goat fr. Love to see them get more confident and assertive as the story progresses.
I know pmoon fans dont read, but it physically hurt when you didnt relise what ahabs skills did.

Queequeg has a skill like some RPGs or Card games have pulling all damage towards her while getting barrier. Also the prior turn one of Ahab's attacks decides who is getting bodied. First try I got murdered by targeting Starbuck like you did. Second I did it by targeting QQ while just clashing other attacks, and let Flower Yisang tank Ahab's first rampage. After that I think it was Rodion tanking next hit, befoe staggering and retiring QQ. In the end I lost nobody.

The easiest way to do the pequad trio (from what ive seen and done) is to instantly nuke starbuck for a turn 1 stagger, then turn 2 kill, then lay into quee, then finish ahab

Yeah the first Ahab fight is annoying because you have to read all of Ahab, and her crew skills. Because if the the first mate is alive when Ahab is trying to dodge then the first mate skills can one shot someone on your team. But if Ahab is guarding then then Queen will tank all your attacks. Believe me when i say i just resarted this fight like three times till i readed everything. Then I just EGO burst when Ahab did her defense order.

On the subject of Ahab saying the whale is Evil. as meny prolly alredy said the original ahab lost his leg to the whale and therefor wanted to hunt it, LB ahab also has a pegleg. but in the city where prostetics and dangerous scenarios are a dime a 1000 im guessing, wanting vengeance on some one for taking a limb whould be very petty. etleest by backstreet and city folk standards. (like im of corse not saying that it dusen't suck. but i bet most people whould go ''Your doing all this over a leg? come on bro just buy a cheap prostetic'', with this specific ahab im assuming its more like ishmeal who alredy mirrors her alot. ahab likely lost some one dear to her due to the phallid whale and therefor wanted to hunt it, or maby not even a specific loved one. maby she saw one of her other many crews or just people in general get pallified and therefor just saw the whale as evil becus it was taking peoples own lives away, and of corse ironicly she became the thing she swore to destroy.
If you want to know what Ahab is like, imagine the Middle, the guys that would allegedly slaughter the family of a kid over spilling ice cream over their expensive clothes. Good, now crank that up to eleven. Ahab literally said he'd strike the sun if it insulted him in the book. If this Ahab is anything like book Ahab, she would pursue any perceived insult, whether physically or otherwise, with an extreme vengeance. Doesn't matter if it was a Whale or the Head and all Arbiters, Ahab would embark on a great quest to take it down.
