  • That is the end of part 3 for chapter 4. Honestly, I really didn't expect Project Moon would make me like Yi Sang. I thought I'd think he's better, but now he's up their with my favorite sinners. So I mean damn, what a great story in Chapter 4.

“Draw me a sheep later” is a reference to the Little Prince-something Demian the character is also a reference to. In the Little Prince, the request is for the reader/narrator to stop obsessing over the exact nature of an object, and instead, look towards potential-towards possibilities.
In the Little Prince, the Little Prince asks the narrator to draw him a picture of a sheep. Narrator obliges, but his meager skills in drawing could never produce a drawing of a sheep that the Little Prince was satisfied with. At his wit’s ends, the narrator draws the Little Prince a box, and claims that his sheep is inside it.
The Little Prince is overjoyed, because the narrator finally drew him exactly what he wanted to see.

With relation to Limbus Company, he seems to be making a request to Dante to stop seeing mirror worlds as mere useful tools and places of exploitation to draw up useful combat tools from, but to see them too as a place of infinite possibilities.
Dante’s note/Faust implies that, while the Mirror Technology doesn’t have negative effect on their universe, it might have some unspoken negative effects in the universes where the IDs were taken from. Demian doesn’t seem to be happy about people using it in any case.

I like how Netzach in Library of Ruina once said that "Those who speak aloud that they want to die are brazenly lying" and that "In reality they want to live more than anybody else and that's why they express their desire in this twisted form"
And Yi Sang at the end of chapter 4 says almost the same thing but instead as the reason why he made the mirror: "I made the mirror because I wished to keep on living and flapping and fluttering"
It might be too stretched, but for me personally these two lines and meaning behind them seems very similar

The potential has always been inside of him. All he needed to do was believe. Coming from a place of self-confidence issues, it's something that we desperately needed but didn't know what it was. We criticize ourselves, cut our own wings, believe our wings to be broken or missing compared to the million "What-ifs" versions of ourselves out there. What if we had made a different decision, what if we said this or that. In the end, what mattered was that we are still alive and trying our best everyday. And just like that, "Fly, perfect wings. Show them who I can be. For the one last time, if you will." Even if we could only fly once, at least we did try to fly. And if we did it once, we can certainly try to do it again and again until we regain our wings as long as we strive. It's a beautiful chapter, one I didn't expect to be so much more relatable than what happened in Ruina. But at this point, maybe that's just the PM-specialty, making you simp for evil men, women, and gender ambiguous people while snorting conference-table length of meth before drinking ten gallons of industrial-grade depressants and crying your heart out

I know that lots of people have already made the joke about how Carmen has taken another L, but I think this particular L is poignant because it not only denies her from causing a distortion, it also disproves her original theory. Dongrang didn't manifest his EGO by rejecting how miserable life in the City is, but rather by embracing it and resolving to continue perpetuating the misery for his own gains. He has proven to Carmen that her "plan" to cure the City was never going to work because people like him exist, therefore completely invalidating the point of her entire character arc.
I also like the detail of how Dongrang's EGO is that of a farmer, the kind of people the real life Yi Sang disliked (because he saw their lifestyle as a symbol of Korea's stagnancy) until he realised that he's a lot more similar to them than he'd like to be.

In the ending song you can see that when the colours brighten Yi Sang looks up from the mirror to the rest of the bus crew (in particular Hong Lu whose leaning over him), in a lovely bit of symbolism for how he’s starting to fill the hole left behind with new companions rather than the mirror
Also I think throughout the entire dungeon you can see a steady shift in Dongbaek’s words towards Dongrang from light-hearted ribbing to genuinely mean spirited attacks. The “sound of a crack” Yi Sang ignored came right after a round of her pulling his work apart and I think the “crack” was a crack in their friendship, and in Dongrang’s confidence. Maybe, if she hadn’t belittled his work to the point that he incinerated it, if he had been allowed to think that maybe his work could still change the world if he stayed with his friends, he wouldn’t have sold then out. Maybe. Idk it seems like there was a growing divide between people who wanted to stay true to the Leagues rules that the things they made were just for the league (Dongbaek, Sang-heo) and those who wanted either money to survive or to be able to actually do something bigger with the things they made (Dongrang, Gap-ryong), but it feels like Dongbaek had a big part in worsening that divide to breaking point

The calf now being unable to recognize him shattered his single remaining hope that he could somehow return to the happiest moment in his life.

He could have realized that perhaps the one person that really needs to recognize his deeds is himself in order to be proud but instead he doubles down on wanting to achieve fame and fortune by any means neccessary. soooo about Dante's clock moving, people already have a bunch of theories as to what's going on with it, the most popular theory rn is Dante being a Doomsday clock.
first of all just to make sure we are all on the same page, the Doomsday clock(the real life one) is a symbolic timepiece being handled by a bunch of scientists where they adjust its arms depending on current world events, the worse things are the closer it is to midnight, with midnight symbolizing doomsday, so the clock doesn't actually do anything it's just a cool way of telling us how bad things are in the world rn and how close we are to blowing ourselves up.
if Dante really is meant to be a living Doomsday clock then whenever his hand reaches midnight we will be in for one hell of a wild ride, I'd also like to also point out it's possible Dante might be the direct cause of that doomsday, or he might have nothing to do with it other than being a warning of how close it is just like the real life clock.
to close this off i want to say the only real evidence we have of all this is that his head looks like the real life Doomsday clock(only the last few hours are marked with gaint dots and the rest of it is empty) and we know PM is planning to make a city builder as their fourth game so it might be set in the aftermath of whatever doomsday event Dante is ticking towards.

Dante's clock face is based off the IRL Doomsday Clock, what with its lack of numbers, starting positions, and of course the two dots.
And as you could probably guess, the Doomsday Clock counts down to Humanity destroying itself, which combined with the last scene in the trailer of the citys population dropping faster than peoples bank accounts when Faust who Grips was announced, Dante's clock moving one tick closer to midnight is not a good sign.

Yep! I recognized it immediately. Which also implies that Dante was the Aviator in his story? And the Little Prince/Demian was essentially a being hailing from the stars, which has... Interesting implications given what we learned about the origins of the Tearful thing and the use of Stars as motifs in the City. It does also imply that Dante probably was in the Outskirts at one point, which explains how he probably met Faust.
Also, am I the only one freaked out by the chapter confirming that technology that completely resurrects/revives people is banned by the City, and yet Limbus Company/Dante seems to be exempt from that taboo? That either means Limbus Company has ties with the Head, or that what Dante is doing isn't "reviving" the Sinners. Both answers have less than ideal implications.

Unlike dante which come with 2 different power... 1. Full body restoration which is reverse of what happen to the body before it got fatally destroyed or injured

I think the goons from T Corp either got their passive bugged, or somehow mistranslated, because I never got to see them heal at all when I was beating their asses.
For Dongrang, he is a curious case, for on one hand he is a dick and a backstabber. On the other hand, he fell onto that pit of despair after systematically being forced to give up on his dreams, realize that you can't help people if you don't expand your ideas to the world, and also being harrassed by the time gestapo. That one in particular must be pretty scary, because they imply that if they want, they can just wind back to whichever part of your timeline you were at your most vulnerable, and then take you into custody or straight up murder you if you don't comply. At the time that happened he must have been a teenager at most, and that, alongside the promise of being able to realize his dreams if he cut ties with his past might have been too much for him to promptly decline, as it was both a life-threatening notice, and an opportunity if he decided to keep on living.
That being said, the man clearly wasn't satisfied with himself, having backstabbed the only people that he cared about, rising to power and doing an aproximation of his dream by basically feed guro porn to an abnormality instead of helping people with his own hands. So he snaps and falls back to the old grindset of "if I destroy everything again, maybe I can find another chance to find true happiness this time around". I hate it, but also can't deny that me and many others could easily fall in the same result if had to live through what he had.
It's also important to notice that Yi Sang learned first hand what Dongrang had done, how he directly destroyed the only thing that gave him a safe space and a reason to feel happiness, yet his reaction after hearing his story is to apologize to him, for not realizing that he had be suffering as much as the others and not doing something about it. That is some mental maturity right there

When Sonya try to recruit her she turn down the offer a said "I dont wanna bathe in warmth just yet. i feel like i oughta be in this cold abit longer."

One thing I will say that I totally missed the first time i played through this chapter. In the conversation with Dangrang before he distorts, he says something really interesting. He says "I guess it wasn't just my work that burned away in the incinerator".
Does that mean that when something is burned in the concept incinerator it also destroys any emotions or feelings one has that would lead them to inventing it again? If so that makes Dongrang much more of a tragic story.
Not saying I like him, but it still makes his story alot more tragic and makes the concept incinerator even more terrifying. Since it can change your personality in a sense if it is based on what is being incinerated.

I think he was being far less literal about that. It's true that he lost his work, but that work was all he ascribed meaning to in his life. He'd sacrificed and lost a lot to even get to where he was, to the point that the person he had become was completely unrecognizable from the kind man he started out as (remember the cattle?),and losing his work was akin to losing his purpose.

My read wasn’t that the concept incinerator took a part of him but rather the circumstances of having to sacrifice what he’d poured his life and health into, knowing that there was a company that had beaten him to it. From the way he talked about his work it sounds like he put it above his own health, and already off-kilter thanks to T-corp and discovering K-corps work, Dongbaek’s words about how it’s not worth anything if it can’t change the world took a crack in his confidence and split it open. His work was his dream, and though he burned it himself the circumstances forcing him to meant it felt like a part of him was forcibly ripped away
Kinda like how Yi-Sang thought he’d lost his wings with the collapse of the league of nine

I've been a Yi Sang simp since I started playing Limbus Company, and watching his character development made me cry for how proud I am of him :") This Canto is also the first time I shed waterfall of tears when we fought Dongrang, because let's be honest... I really feel sympathy for Yi Sang and Dongrang, two friends who were torn apart because one feigned sloth in its original form (apathy) thanks to fear of getting hurt, and the other sunk himself in gluttony since he wanted more validation and fame despite it is all but nothing.
Yi Sang however, managed to overcome such fear and eventually fly with the wings that have been there all along. Also interesting fact: Yi Sang's wings at the climax cutscene is filled with memories of Guinhoe and becoming full, while Dongrang's wings are broken and blank. At the end of all those storms, we can finally see Yi Sang smile again. That's enough to make a grown woman like me cry. Words cannot describe how amazing this Canto is for me, all those waitings for the past weeks really paid off.
Aside from me growing to like Yi Sang even more, my respect for Hong Lu also becomes more apparent. The fact that he is one of those who noticed Yi Sang's letters as his way for calling for help made me realize that Hong Lu is also something more than just an innocently insensitive person, there's so much more beneath the surface.
Maybe this is the message that Canto IV tried to convey to us: there's so much more of life than what naked eyes could see. Bravo Project Moon, and thanks for always being entertaining Tsunul!

I don't use Yi-Sang in my main team and only had 2 identities for him, Seven and Blade respectively, so they were underleveled and incompatible with my main team, forcing me to slow down to build another team. 2. My friend who beat the chapter before me, conveniently forgot to mention the E.G.O gift that buffs Yi-Sang to lvl 35 and max uptie which left some of my other team members underleveled(26-28), so that was a lot of tickets wasted. 3. In the 1st fight with Dongrang I accidentally started the battle with only 5 sinners, I still won though. The second fight I also took on with 5 sinners, because I found that having less sinners to manage made sanity easier to gain. The IDs I used for the entire dungeon were Seven association Yi-Sang(He's actually stronger than expected especially with his passive), Seven Association Ryoshu(Has high rolls that make clashes easier despite the lack of coins), Seven Association Outis(Good Synergy, Good overall), L Corp Remnant Faust(Actually Based, provides extra E.G.O Resources and with the right setup is capable of rolling higher than N-Corp Sinclair) and Zwei Sinclair(Served as local sandbag for Dongrang, he will be missed).

I know people like to joke and say Carmen has been taking Ls, but tbh she hasn't taken any. Based on her dialogue at the end of Ruina, whether someone distorts or develops EGO is a win for her in either situation. Her goal is to have people look at their true selves and love themselves for who they are, EGO is basically the epitome of this, as its the concept of self-actualization. And since distortion is the other side of the same coin as EGO, you could argue that either outcome is good, at least from her perspective. I imagine the reason she's trying to push people to Distortion is that its probably easier when they're in emotionally volatile states than pushing them towards EGO, and in doing so may grant that person the impetus to gain EGO that they otherwise wouldn't have had by going against her words.
EGO and Distortion as concepts are honestly pretty interesting, as neither are permanent states, and its demonstrated someone can go from one side to the other in this very chapter with Dongrang, so the reverse is probably true as well. Hell, Gebura lost the ability to naturally manifest her EGO in Ruina, having to get around it via a loophole, and that probably has something to do with how she doesn't consider herself the same person as she was in her first and second lives. I'm honestly curious to learn more details about EGO and Distortion, and to see how the Sinners EGO differ, since I find it hard to believe all 12 of these people manifested their EGOs naturally before getting picked up by the company.
