Dear Dan, first of all I would like to thank you for all the beautiful and high-quality episodes, deep respect. Although I have been listening to jazz intensively for about 35 years now, my insight into this fantastic music deepens further and further with every new episode and I am grateful to you for that. Regarding the elections, I wish everyone much wisdom and would like to refer to a film by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, "Angst essen Seele auf". Loosely translated into English, "Fear eats souls".
I gave Chet Baker a shot for the first time many weeks ago and he has that smooth approach to his playing and was an exceptional singer as well. One of those greats I slept on for so many years but finally got around to. Now one day I’ll listen to some whole Bill Evans albums and Alice Coltrane and I’ll feel even better.
Hi, Dan. Your videos are probably my favourite music-related content on UA-cam. Never didactic, always enjoyable, and all-around thought-provoking --not to mention all those great album recommendations (which, otherwise, I would have never come across anywhere).
Onya Dan. Yet again wisdom from the depths of your being. Man, whatever others may do, say or vote in the USandA, we in the "outside world" deeply appreciate your efforts and passion for, and the history of, this fabulous art form. For you guys voting in this election, may compassion rule. Trump uses religion as some sort of "justification tool" but has proven that he has no compassion nor empathy for the people, only ultimately for his own profit and gain. And the people think this means success and freedom. And to quote Peter Garrett, "The rich get richer and the poor get the picture. The bombs never hit ya when you're down so low..." Dig your work, Dig Jazz.
Hey Dan, I am a subscriber and a consistent viewer of your channel...and it has become somewhat of an escape for me. I look forward to your new videos, both for the jazz content and endless education in that respect...and for your insightful views of our current political climate. If I am not mistaken, you have mentioned you are Canadian...correct? This begs the question...why would you choose to live in the maga infested hell hole of the US ? I've been to Canada many times and it is always in my mind as a place I would move to in a heartbeat if certain responsibilities did not keep me here, at least for the foreseeable future. I realize Canada may not be without political problems of it's own...but certainly not to the level of the US. Anyway, keep up your good and inspiring work on this channel!
Thnx my friend.. short answer has always been family... BUT under the current climate I am considering it... Where are you located??? I appreciate you watching the channel my friend
@ Hey Dan, I am in the deep red state of Oklahoma. Needless to say I am a tiny blue dot here. Oddly enough I am a 6th generation Oklahoman although I’ve NEVER fit in well here, so I understand the family thing.
Another classic shepherd episode. A few quiet pints of Guinness and tuning into Dan…nothing better! Regards from Ireland 🐑🎼🐑🎼🐑🎼🐑
thnx my friend!! Cheers my mate!!
Thank you Dan and let‘s go for all of us in a brighter future! What ever will come! - Alex 🙏

Fear is an absolute killer my friend.. may we see a brighter future where tolerance and understanding rule the day

Evans has some wonderful albums in the 50s and even later, and Alice is a whole nother trip
Great vid as ever.
Hey have you read The Bear Comes Home - re a jazz (sax) playing bear, it’s v good quirky exploration of the music industry
I have not
Sounds interesting
I love the Chet baker Gerry mulligan stuff. Great combination.
Baker’s voice is more of a stylized whisper. YMMV but I like it
Totally agree! Mulligan is a GIANT
