This is a great episode, thanks Dan - top of the mark, as usual. I love Billie H and for me would be on any Mount Olympus of jazz - her influence runs into the modern world - Amy Winehouse, Raye, etc. Those Verve records are probably my favourites, too which I know goes against the grain.
Dan, You are now diving into my wheel house more and doing a damn fine job. Keep up the good work. Billie was the GOAT for me, although I need to emphasize the FOR ME part of that statement. Bonnie and I have been spending the summer in NH, but will be heading back to FL next week. When I get home I will dig up an extended interview with Milt Gabler to send to you that will fill in some more of the story on Billie for you. Milt was the A&R man for Decca as well as being the owner of Commodore. I think you should look at your Keynote set too, as if memory serves Harry Lim did a few sides with Billie. I could be wrong, but up here in the North Country I can't check for you. There are a few other ladies you need to do a deep dive on too, but that is a subject for another day. Take care. Bill
Great video Dan… fantastic history. If I lived near we would be fast friends swapping lps and talking music Thank you for what you do. Sending strength
Hi Dan what a wonderful video, Ones Again I learned from you. We know Billie went through so many difficulties. One thing we can say She had here voice and no one could take it from here. My favourite song is Strange fruit. Take care
