This amp, my friend owns a music store in Plymouth, Michigan and I plugged into the one he has on display. It has such a sweet tone! Excellent for blues! I have not heard tone so killer out of a tube amp in a long time! There are the old reliable and well-known amps by Fender that we all know and trust for superior tone(s), but this amp gets a killer blues tone after the tubes warm up...Jayzus K. Rhyst! Plugged a Strat in and cranked the Master Volume, and OMG! Just killer tone! Great little amp
We recorded some guitar tracks with a Vintage Ampeg and WOW! Those had to be some of the best guitar tones we've ever gotten. A perfect session amp. Now all I need is that Gibson Nighthawk. Ooh, listen to that tremolo, gives me chills. If only someone made a pedal that killer.
late'72-early '73, Albert King toured w/18 year-old Hollywood Fats on 2nd guitar. Fats used a 'newer', (mid- '60's?) Reverb Rocket, side-by-side w/Albert's monstrous Acoustic 260. It was absolutely killer.
I just scored a beautiful '64 Reverberocket. The first digit in the serial number tells you what year it was built. Hard to believe these wonderful amps have slipped through the radar. The BEST reverb and Tremelo period! Sadly the original Ampeg label CTS AlNiCo's are only meant to handle 15 watts, where the amp delivers 21 watts RMS clean and 28 watts peak wide open.
The lines he's playing are based on arpeggios (series of notes in a chord) He's playing an Em arpeggio and then a Bm arpeggio with maybe a note or two from those scales.
what about the price, how much for these pups? i mean if its like $500 or more then it blows, you can get a a crate tube amp 2x12 combo for $250 or single ch v18 for $200 all tube...so how much...these remind me of the texas made ALAMO amps form the 60's-70's with tremolo...good playing sounds good
I have a 1960 ampeg jet that has been in the family since 63. I remember what it sounded like when it was right. It was a VERY sweet amp like the one in the vidio. It finally just wore out and I had it comepletely rebuilt . (700 bucks) unfortunately it doesnt sound the same and is very noisy. Sigh...you pays u money u takes u chances. I guess the main problem is you cant get EXACT oem parts anymore. So a lesson for vintage ameg owners, when they sound this nice enjoy them as a rare treat and not to overwork them. They are a treasure when they work that nice. Cant find anything quite the same.
Thats a really good point Kevin - thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights. Bummer about your ampeg - are you confident that the tech who worked on it really did the research and did the best possible job? I only ask as working on those old amps is an art form in itself and Im not sure why it would be so much more noisy now than before. Just curious. Always risks for sure pulling apart the old gear. Best of luck. Take care and keep on rocking! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc. PS - I just released the first single from my new original band's coming record. Im really stoked about the project. Would appreciate your feedback and perhaps if you can share the video with some friends whom u think may like the music that would be so awesome - here is the YT vid - ua-cam.com/video/i-gB97WVJdw/v-deo.html and here is the band FB page - facebook.com/mindcellband/ Let me know what u think of the song and guitar tones. Looking forward to your feedback. Have a rocking day!

+scottyv68 Yes, circa 62. However, the 59-61 M12s did have that same cabinet and tolex pattern, which changed tolex around 62. The Jet and Rocket had different, smaller cabinets. The Reverberocket was introduced around 62, and only had this tolex for the first year or so.
Love ampeg! I have the one u have on the floor & was wondering in ur opinion if there's a big difference in between the older one & newer one? Tone wise 🤔

that's the sound i want. does anyone know if the new ampeg j-20 has thing vibe? i want a cool 60s brian jonestown massacre/brian jones sound. clean but pushed slightly so its chimey. i have a vox ac30 but its not for me really and a blues deluxe which is ok but a bit cheap sounding
@guyinfuckinghat Not sure..65 maybe? No dates. Looks brand new but i don't know about the tubes. What standards for restoring? I don't think im going to be finding any original boxes for this any time soon.
@LikidySplitz Nice comment. How long did it take you to come up with it? Seriously, you're a genius! And really funny too! I can't stop laughing. BTW, I just checked out YOUR channel......let's leave it at that.
+emafire Original. The reissues are completely different (master volume and channel switching, no tremolo, more sterile sounding IMO). Plus, the re-issues did not come in this "random flare" tolex vinyl, only the checkered.
@theeHeisenberg I agree - reverb sucks BIG time. Takes all the feel out of your touch on the strings and muddies up the works on the whole. What exactly is the point? Oh right, to make what could be articulate playing sound like wall of echoey crap.
Too too much talk. We can figure out the controls if we are interested in one of these. Don't need so many details and so much talking. Just play the thing so that we can hear it - take it through it's various tones for us and just play it with much less talk.
who cares about the amp...any amp or pedal can do that tremolo effect and play clean, nicely aka fenders. But i'm more interested in that AWESOME gibson!!! If you guys want to see that guitar in action check out "failure - undone" on youtube and you can hear it played in their music video. it's very cool .

You were playing some nice lead work that actually did not use the pentatonic scale, that was nice to hear.

Man, you kick ass. Keep the vids going! And man that clean tone is beautiful

My gosh that amp sounds amazing!
David feels like a really nice person! I think he's a good private guitar teacher :D
its amazing that amp still works . this collector has it going on. he should hire me to clean and play them . food , beer , and picks .
that all i ask
ya it does!
props to u for noticing!

Probably a 1961, didn't make them till then, and only the first year or so had that older tolex. Nice amp!

@@rockongoodpeople thanks a lot. I was thinking on selling the ampeg but after watching ur video. Im going to keep it. Thank u. ✌🤘
Sorry the first one is an Em7 arpeggio.
He plays the chord and follows it with the arpeggio. Same with the Bm.
you gotta get the boutique crates to really know whats up, like the blue voodoo.....the low end crates make better toilets than amps.
wow man, what a deal, what condition was it in?
think you could play the 'Teisco EV2T' through this amp? it must sound killer.
love it,, sounds SO good man...5*'s!
people commenting are a bit out there. this would be SWEET for surf music....drenched in natural, tube powered reverb!
Reverb sounds nice! *thumbs nose at reverb comments*
that's the sound i want. does anyone know if the new ampeg j-20 has thing vibe? i want a cool 60s brian jonestown massacre/brian jones sound. clean but pushed slightly so its chimey. i have a vox ac30 but its not for me really and a blues deluxe which is ok but a bit cheap sounding

According to Wikipedia, the Ampeg Reverbrocket amp didn't come out until 1964. So I doubt seriously this amp is a 1959-60.
I have a late 1940's Ampeg Combo Bass Amp.
Any takers?
the nighthawk guitar never caught on..maybe I shouldve bought one
Nice!
how much do these amps range from for a goo one but affordable
good sounds..what was that song you were playing on this video th first one i mean:) cheers..
his trademark
very cool

I would like to learn to surf from that guy.......he looks like a good surfer lol
those are really really quiet pups
me also
Is a vintage amp o reissue?
+emafire Original. The reissues are completely different (master volume and channel switching, no tremolo, more sterile sounding IMO). Plus, the re-issues did not come in this "random flare" tolex vinyl, only the checkered.
+emafire The reissue does get some cool OD though.
i thought it was talb
How 39 Dollars Sounds to you?
you need a muff fuzz
Jus sell it to me x]
Cool, that checkerboard almost looks like carbon fiber!!!^_^
@theeHeisenberg I agree - reverb sucks BIG time. Takes all the feel out of your touch on the strings and muddies up the works on the whole. What exactly is the point? Oh right, to make what could be articulate playing sound like wall of echoey crap.
Rev up the Reverborocket!
its called tolex
@LikidySplitz at least he's not wearing socks
he`s from southern california, i think wearing sandals is a law there... :)

What a load of shit.
lol
Is there ANOTHER adjective you might want to utilize other than "cool"?
That coveys ZERO information to the viewer.
bad vibrato
lose the baseball cap and well take you seriously
Never much liked the sound of Ampeg guitar amps - still don't.
Ampegs are damn near the best.
playing guitars delicately and not cranking up amps, that studio is fucking gay
