      @@heartstrings110 my situation is complicated. I had a procedure scheduled but I held off till I can take time off from work. Well 2 months later my surgeon closed his practice. Moved out of State. I waited 6 months to see another one and he quit the hospital he was working at. I never even spoke to him just his assistant. I'm highly concerned now about seeing anyone even though I need to. Plus there is no one within 3 hrs away. That does this. Ive really given up to be honest. I worry about lymph node damage and nerve damage from this

      I just got back from my cardiologist who does these procedures. I have been having horrendous pain and swelling in my legs/feet for the past year, and after all the tests turns out I do have PVD. I am scared shitless that they are doing this in the office and with no sedation or putting you under. This is a large main vein that empties into your femoral artery. The glue they will use to shut the vein down has the potential to cause systemic affects on you. How did you do with this procedure afterwards? Did it hurt a lot? How was the pain weeks after the procedure?

      Hi. Can you let me know your experience? I'm having it done in a couple days and I'm pretty nervous

    • @ria0305
      @ria0305 4 роки тому +9

      Guille Nonato Overall, it lasted about 30 minutes. If anything the small pokes of numbing agent from my groin down my leg were the most nerve wracking part of the procedure (about 15-20 pokes). Once my leg was numb, I didn’t really feel any discomfort and I was encouraged to watch the ultrasound monitor to see what exactly was being done. Once the procedure was over, my leg was bandaged and wrapped (covering a tiny incision) After care consisted of monitoring my blood pressure after about 45 minutes post op before I was discharged to go home. The only thing that was uncomfortable at home was not being able to get my leg wet for 2 days, so showering was a bit of a task. There was minimal pain management, hardly used Tylenol OTC. The incision healed in about 2 weeks. Fast forward four months post op, I’ve noticed less swelling in my (right) leg however there are days that it does tend to swell if I stand for long periods of time and if I don’t wear the recommended compression stockings that I was prescribed. Hope this helps and good luck! 🤗

    Long ago I was using sonographers in my 100% phlebology practice. 20 years ago, I decided to learn vein sonography myself, and I became certified in Phlebology Sonography. Since I do the sonography from mapping reflux sources which are very complex at times involving multiple incompetent perforatin veins, the smoothness of procedures and accuracy of the treatments in general improved tremendously. When one brain controls the ultrasound and vein ablation procedures, results are far better in my 30 years of experience in phlebology. I do understand that not many people have the hand coordination and dexterity to do both tasks at the same time. Maybe being a pianist helped me multi-tasking better. Of the approximately 40 physicians whom I trained, only 2 could do ultrasound and vein ablations by themselves. So, all physicians are not able to follow the same path, understandably. By the way, what do you do when you have 4 endovenous ablations scheduled and the sonographer calls sick?! If you can, become a vein sonographer yourself? And please MAKE SUE all venous reflux mapping studies are done with the patient in the standing position and no other. Every other position including "reverse trendelenberg" is not the correct position! Another point I like to share from my 10,000+ cases of endovenous vein ablation using all of the existing systems is that endovenous laser using a 1470nm laser with radial laser delivery fiber is far superior to any other system. You would know, until you try. Khalil Fattahi, MD RPhS California

At the same time I also had four Perforator veins treated by Transluminal Occlusion of Perforators followed by the necessary eight week gap with Ultrasound Foam Guided Sclerotherapy. This procedure should be carried out while the patient is tilted back on an angle. I called the doctor back as soon as I had shooting pain in my heel when I tried to walk and they seemed seceptical but had me come in to do a ultrasound and confirmed I was right. Then had to do lovenox injections. For me having had a superficial thrombosis after a injury several years earlier and shooting pain I had then made me aware that something had gone wrong. Probably because the doctor who carried your procedure out was not a vein specialist (Phlebologist) and failed to identify any small perforator vein damage. I have been through it all but now cured after finding the right specialist. I’m from England but had to pay because our NHS do not employ vein specialists, they only employ Vascular surgeons who are incapable of working on small perforator veins. I am having this procedure done in early January. The plan is one leg, then the other leg, then ultrasounds after, then fine tuning of existing surface veins I believe sclerotherapy? I am 63 and have moderate veinous insufficiency. I haven't worn shorts in forever as my surface veins and a couple varicose veins are so unsightly.... so to me, this is partially a vanity thing - but also that my Veinous Insufficiency will only get worse as I age. I do question - I am not overweight, I exercise and I am in good health. IDK, is this hereditary? And the idea of the procedure is scary, so seeing this puts my mind at ease.

I thought only one set of lidocaine shots and one incision was necessary. I’m so afraid to go back for the other three treatments. And I have no idea what the four foam injection treatments are going to be like. 😢

    I had this procedure yesterday at another facility and the surgical site started bleeding on the way home. I returned and it was redressed. However, the bleeding got worse after I was home and went to ER. Was bleeding a good bit. Very messy. They ended up stitching the entry wound and I was home four hours later. I have more procedures scheduled but am afraid of bleeding again. They don’t do stitches after ablation because it isn’t supposed to bleed. Idk what to do. It was awful. The leg is fine now, the next day.

I have another follow up in a week and a half. I’ve been taking ibuprofen and Tylenol And so far im a lot better. Now I just feel my thighs are tight where the vein was, but they say that’s normal because your vein becomes like a cord until your body reabsorbs it. I've had this procedure done on both legs, one starting at the top on my left leg on 9/1/23. The other two procedures were done below the knee on my right leg, first on 10/6/23 on the inside and second on 10/20/23 from the back of my knee. At this point, my legs still feel heavy and it looks as if all of the veins are still full, either big ropes around the knee or large spider veins going down through both feet. My surgeon indicated that he might have to tie off the vein in my right leg, but I'm thinking the ablations didn't work at all so I might need to have that done on both legs. I'm concerned that I have no idea how much of what I'm still experiencing is normal and I just have to be patient or how much is evidence that the surgeries were unsuccessful.

      I’m going through the same thing. Both legs are still swollen and heavy. It’s been 3 months. Right below knee left just behind the knee which was difficult because of swelling. I actually ended up with phlebitis in the left leg. It was very painful. I had to go to wound care. Dr was finally able to complete procedure. It’s been since November and my legs are still swelling.

      Update: now I've been diagnosed with a clot in the left leg in the popliteal vein. I felt something wasn't right and went in for ultrasound. The doctor said it was "chronic clot" which means it had been there a couple months. But was not there on ultrasound before the ablation. Now I'm on blood thinner. Now feeling like I wish I hadn't had the procedure done. The doctor of course says it's not from the ablation.
