When my grandmother’s onions would start going bad, she would slice and boil some until tender and would then make a cheese sauce and put on them. So delicious!
It was fun to see your Amish haul. When I visit my family in Iowa we always go to the Amish stores. It is one of the highlights of my trip. My car is fully loaded when I head back to Texas.

I shut down my garden this week. God provided abundantly this year. So thankful for everything He provided. As for the clips on the tomatoes. I used my pruners and cut the vines in pieces and then went back and got all the clips and picked up all the labels and now I have an almost clean garden space. I’m still working on a 40’ row of green bean vines that were trellised. All in good time. Blessings
Ready to start ripping out the garden too! Seems like only yesterday I was planning it out and ordering seeds. Time flies when your chore list is full! 😊
We canned caramelized onions and maple caramelized onions this year. We even make caramelized onion bacon ketchup. Just waiting for central Texas to cool down, still in the upper 90's. looking forward to the fall and winter garden. Always good to see yawl. God Bless, Mike & Rochelle.

First time watching you - had to watch after I saw Whispering Pines! My brother used to work at the propane place right next door! I liked Whispering Pines better before the fire they had; after they got bigger and a bit less stuff that caters to the Amish in their area (and me, they used to have lots of manual equipment/products). Had a great onion harvest too this year. Grew walla walla, candy, red, white and yellow. Also shallots. I dried all the shallots. But I made french onion soup and canned it. Did caramelized onions and canned that. Going to dry the rest of the onions. Onions don't keep here. They just rot. To much moisture in the air.
My garden is still producing like crazy. I need to dig up a couple feet of my potato rows to see how they are doing. Tomatoes are insane out there, they are so heavy they are pulling the tomato cages out of the ground
Went on Fort Lee VA commissary today and the prices were soaring. Beef jerky packs which are small ranged between $15 to $25. Red meats went to new levels. In the soap isle, the detergents were high. I saw in the small brushes and kitchen tools area of high prices. What got me, was a fly swatter at $.98. A cheap chinese version with plastic defects. For 98 cents, it is not rated over 100 flies. Flies are expensive in the house. I bought the cheapo swatter and must be careful not to crack it or break it with the large flies. Guess when you reach 101 flies, warranty expires.
An idea, if you're willing, to grab and put at the road anything that is still fruiting that you don't want. Unless of course, you need that space for fall crops. I know many are still struggling. Just a thought. Blessings to you and the family.
Just a thought. How about give any extra produce to a local food bank. There are so many people in need these days. From my experience, the food banks are always very grateful to receive food. Take care and God bless!
We've been donating most of it, to the young aspiring "homesteader" down the street from us. He's 9 years old, raises turkeys, chickens, ducks, and all kinds of stuff. Even has his own UA-cam channel he just started. He's been wanting to make a lot of the recipes that Rachel has been making - especially the pizza sauce. So we've been sending most things his way.
Rachel, So happy you told us about the Michigan Amish Store, you know we went there last April (4/2021) while on Vacation in Michigan so fun we bought so much to bring back to Indy !! ♥️♥️ Patricia
Patricia, do you know about our Indiana Amish stores?? We have 8-9 different ones. Many around northern Indiana but the one we like best is in the far east/central area around Fountain City. It is amazing!!
You have to visit Lehman's in Kidron, OH. It's amazing and will take you a whole day. Not sure if the model train is still there. It's been a while since I lived in the US.
The Colloidal Silver they carry (Michael Clark brand) is made locally (Hesperia). I have visited the "facility" where it is made. I first came across the product while living far South & East of Hesperia and had never heard of Hesperia. I was amazed to find it was fairly close to our new home in Newaygo and carried in Fremont which I visit often. You aught to try a bottle. Also there is another, very different, Amish store between Fremont & Newaygo...closer to a "Daily Deals" kind of store but they also have bulk spices and what not.
Our closest Amish store is teeny-tiny in comparison to yours! And, there's only natural light -- no electricity 😅. Still find some good buys - especially on bulk spices and bulk citric acid!
You might try dehydrating your onions & then eating them as a snack - especially if you use Walla Walla Sweets. I'll eat them like a potato chip or mix with nuts or something for a snack.
If we had to get bulk (which we will when the $ improve) - I am looking at Azure Standard. Its only two of us but we also plan on having pets so we count them as well. Rice, Flour (wheat, all purpose and bread), salt, spices, sugar, honey, maple syrup, molasses, oils, any Asian or South Asian foods/spices (although its cheaper to order those direct especially our favorite Ghee). Dried herbs I order online as my kitchen herb garden is not ready yet. Quick foods like ramen, frozen veggies (we prefer those), water, tea (bagged - loose comes from other sources). Pretty much it.
Shoot that store looks just like the one we went to yesterday! I thought you were at Country View In Snover 🤣 Nope that’s the other side of the state. I had fun! They are great stores! I had never been. Happy canning!
If you are close to Dundee, then we aren't that far apart at all. I'm near where 94 and 69 meet in the central lower part of Michigan. You have inspired me. I live 10-15 minutes away from a couple of Amish stores. And, we've been trying to get away from big box stores lately. I'm going to plan a day to go. What do you think of the sudden fall chill in the air that hit yesterday? I was surprised when I went outside!

Looking at your onion purchase, thinking about the 3 onions I have on my shopping list and wondering if I'm shortchanging myself. 👀
MUYYY BIEN GRACIAS POR COMPARTIR 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👍🕊️🇲🇽🕊️
It isn't an Amish store, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Country View Bulk Store in Snover, Michigan. If you're ever up that way, you should check it out.
Why do you say that? It's owned and operated solely by the Amish, the Amish shop here too
An idea, if you're willing, to grab and put at the road anything that is still fruiting that you don't want. Unless of course, you need that space for fall crops. I know many are still struggling. Just a thought.
Blessings to you and the family.
That's a wonderful idea.
@@1870s Excellent!
I also go to that same amish store in Fremont Michigan.
I would love a Armish Store near me in VA. Love your videos, 🙏from VA
The Amish store looks exactly like the Mennonite store we have here in Arkansas called “The Pantry”. Soooo good! 🥰
Rachel,
So happy you told us about the Michigan Amish Store, you know we went there last April (4/2021) while on Vacation in Michigan so fun we bought so much to bring back to Indy !! ♥️♥️
Patricia
Patricia, do you know about our Indiana Amish stores?? We have 8-9 different ones. Many around northern Indiana but the one we like best is in the far east/central area around Fountain City. It is amazing!!
You have to visit Lehman's in Kidron, OH. It's amazing and will take you a whole day. Not sure if the model train is still there. It's been a while since I lived in the US.
Our Favorite Amish Store...:)
Also there is another, very different, Amish store between Fremont & Newaygo...closer to a "Daily Deals" kind of store but they also have bulk spices and what not.
how funny, we bought some of that a few years ago at a local street fair near us. Todd used it on his poison ivy rash.
Love Blocks Farmers Market
That’s how I get my onions from the Amish and 50 lbs of potatoes. They last my husband and me until next spring.
Our closest Amish store is teeny-tiny in comparison to yours! And, there's only natural light -- no electricity 😅. Still find some good buys - especially on bulk spices and bulk citric acid!
Curious as to what citric acid is useful for please
Hi Rachel 👋
You might try dehydrating your onions & then eating them as a snack - especially if you use Walla Walla Sweets. I'll eat them like a potato chip or mix with nuts or something for a snack.
Can’t wait to see the caramelized onions!
If Dundee is your next town over, we are a country neighbors!
Awesome, howdy neighbor
I'm 10 minutes from Fremont Indiana!!!!
Don't forget to winterize your peppers, it didn't sound as if you did, they keep well until next yr when replant n can last 7 yrs
I made some honey butter the other day, can't believe I never tried it before. So good will have to try some cinnamon in the next batch.
My onions and potatoes didn't do well either. Sweet potatoes are almost ready. We'll see how they did
You should try a mini muffin pan... they are awesome!
Great Amish haul!!
