Sewing the McCalls M7947 with a shirred waist hack & drafting a linen ruffle pencil skirt

- Summer sewing is finally here!
In todays video I am sewing two very special linen fabrics that are both under 1.5 metres pieces. I'm hacking one of my favourite McCalls pattern m7947 to have a shirred waist detail and tie straps. Also, using the Sew Many Dresses straight skirt block, I'm drafting a fitted skirt with a ruffle added to the bottom too.

I tend to consider pencil skirts as kind of boring, but adding that ruffle really made it gorgeous. Nothing boring about it. That fabric really makes it too.

The skirt and dress turned out beautiful. I must practice shirring….I love wearing it but my 1 attempt at doing a waistband turned out to be a cuff size piece of fabric….and as I loved and had wasted the fabric I’ve been too scared to try since. I must look at that book!

Brilliant love them both. Lovely fabric and the skirt really flatters you figure. Does the dress just go over your head now you have sewn button fastenings up?
The dress and skirt turned out amazing 🤩 I would like to try the Shirring around the waist in one of my dress too but I would like to know the won’t the shirrinng irritate against your skin.
